Thomas A. Anderson worked at Metacortechs (or Metacortex) as a computer programmer and was a hacker with the alias of "Neo" at night. Questioning the reality of his life, Morpheus awakened Neo from the Matrix believing him to be the One to fulfill the prophecy. Onboard Morpheus' Nebuchadnezzar, Neo realized for himself that he was the One only after being brought back to life through Trinity's voice while his brain was still active, making him know that the Matrix wasn't real. While he questioned his exact role, his powers grew in the Matrix allowing him to have abilities such as stopping bullets, flight, summoning objects, and even visions. (Seeing the world "without time") He sees the Architect who informs him that the prophecy is really another form of control and that there have been 5 previous Ones and versions of the Matrix. He chooses to save Trinity when faced the choice of two doors, the "salvation of Zion" (assumed to be what the 5 predecessors chose) and "end of [his] species." After reviving Trinity he realizes his new power of controlling sentinels, in this case stop them, but in the process his mind ends up in the Trainman's Mobil Ave. Trinity and Morpheus, with the help of Seraph, free Neo from Mobil Ave. by making a deal with the Merovingian and Neo personally discovers the only way to save Zion is to go to the Machine City. Trinity goes with him in Niobe's hovercraft the Logos and Trinity meets her final demise when they crash in the Machine City. Neo faces off Smith in a final battle where he ends up sacrificing himself to Smith with in turn cancels them out, saving the Matrix and Zion.
