Movie Thoughts

The Lake House
WARNING - SPOILERS!

Overall I loved this movie. It had a great love story that was well-developed and made it so you were able to look past the flaws. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock do a great job acting, and their chemistry is fantastic. Sure, you have to let yourself believe that there's a magical mailbox that allows you to send letters to someone in the past/future, but when you see Alex Wyler and Kate Forster you believe it. I am a big fan of sci-fi movies, so of course I understand the time-travel flaws. The biggest one being that it was Alex dying in Kate's arms that made her depressed and want to go back and see the Lake House. And that was when she saw the letter from Alex and their relationship began. I don't know what would have happened to the space-time continuum if that happened in real life. We probably would all be goo after exploding over and over again. But anyhow, back to the movie. At the end when you see that he did see Kate's warning and they finally get to hold eachother! Oohh, it's great! I thought it was funny that they couldn't seen to have their lips apart for more than 5 seconds, but then again they've been wanting to do that for a long time.

The cinematography was done differently than I've seen in other movies; it was more simplistic. The scene where the 2004-Alex is talking to 2004-Kate at her birthday party, the camera has the same view throughout the entire conversation, as if you were just a bystander that was listening. You could see how nervous Alex was as he fumbled around with his hands and then could immediately go back to Kate to see how she had a connection she couldn't quite understand with this mystery man. Fantastic.
