Movie Thoughts

The Last Mimzy
WARNING - SPOILERS!

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! It's always fun to see movies where the main characters have special abilities and are "chosen" people. It seemed like this was a book made into a movie... I wonder if it was. *looks it up* What do you know? It was. They seemed to explain Emma's tears solving the future's problems quickly. In fact, I'm still not completely sure how it helped that much. Her DNA was pure, and theirs wasn't? How did the future's DNA get so messed up? Pollution? How would that mess up DNA so badly? I don't know. I'm sure the book explained it much better. Maybe I'll get around to reading it sometime.

Something else I didn't understand: Emma. I know that she was this special unique child, but how does that work exactly? She was chosen before she was born to help the future? How exactly was she special? Could she just learn things quickly from Mimzy, or was she just able to understand Mimzy so that Mimzy could teach her how to do those things? I'm not exactly sure. What I am sure of is how awesome their abilities were. I have always fantasized about what it'd be like to be able to have a conversation with someone using your mind. That would be so convenient. Not to mention she could fly! At the end when it showed the kids just floating away I was so jealous! I wish I could just listen to a story told through mind-talking and then fly away. I've had dreams where I'm flying, and that feels cool enough. I can't imagine how cool that would be if I could fly in real life.

It was very interesting to see how her parents were reacting. They absolutely flipped out! While watching the movie it makes it seem like they are being stupid for not just going with the whole thing, but if something like that really happened to one of my (non-existent) kids, I'm not sure what I would do. Very odd. I'd like to think that I would not completely flip out like their parents did. But, you know, even though Emma was more of the "chosen one" than her brother, I would have wanted to be her brother more. He saw patterns in everything! I already do that, but he could like manipulate the world around him. I don't know; it was interesting.

I did think that it was hilarious when Emma was being pulled up with her hand stuck in Mimzy's... force field, or whatever, and her parents come running up to help and they just repeatedly run into the outer force field trying to help her. You'd think that one of them would have learned from the other that they couldn't run through it. "I'll save her!" *bounces off of force field* "No! You didn't do that right! Let me run through it the right way!" *bounces off of force field* I suppose they weren't exactly thinking straight since their child was in danger. But I still have the right to laugh about it. :)

Oh my gosh! I just remembered! I was absolutely grossed out to see Noah make all of the cockroach's to cover the camera... ugh!! It was gross enough to see that many roaches crawling on the wall so condensed... but it grossed me out to imagine that there were that many cockroaches nearby that he could control. Cockroaches are just something that really gross me out. *shivers*

Overall, I enjoyed this movie. Time-travel movies are always interesting to think about. I'd just want to pick up the book to fill in some of the gaps.
