Monster House
WARNING - SPOILERS!
I thought that this was a good movie. It was very well done and it kept me interested the entire time. I thought that it would be more of a comedy since it's a kid's movie and everything, but there were some really scary parts! The part where DJ had a dream about the Monster House and that hand started to come up and grab him--holy freaking cravitz! That's something that would give me nightmares! Luckily it didn't, but I was scared when I walked into my house that night. Oh! And when the house grabbed the trees and made them arms and started chasing after them--ahhhh! That's terrifying! Who would ever think to do something like that? That is something I give this movie credit for: creativity. How the house interacts with other people and how you can see a face on it was very well done.
I was surprised when you find out that the house is in fact the wife and not Nebbercracker himself. Though it seems somewhat unbelievable that he would instantly want to take her home from that circus or whatever. Though, I could see it if he was just trying to be nice. Then when he sees how crazy she is I guess he didn't really have the choice to just leave her. So, nevermind. That's not really unbelievable.
It was a bit disappointing to see that a lot of the funny parts were given away in the previews. (I hate it when they do that, possibly a new random rant?) Although there were some parts that were funny that weren't in the previews. Chowder was good for the comic relief. (What kind of name is that anyway?) "Oh, so it's a girl house." It's funny and it's ironic because it actually is a girl house! But you don't know that at the time. *sigh* Oh, good times. I loved the part where he pretended to mouth off to his dad on the phone when DJ and Jenny (I think that's her name) walked in. Very clever! But peeing in bottles--not so much. That's pretty gross. But kind of funny at the same time. Heehee! :D
Overall it was very well done. It's a good "pick me up movie." Not something to obsess over, but definitely not a movie to put down. I'd recommend it. *thumbs up*
