Stranger Than Fiction WARNING - SPOILERS!
I'd been waiting for a long time to see this movie, and it didn't let me down. It made me happy to see that Harold was obsessed with numbers and appeared to be OCD. He counted his brush strokes, tied his tie exactly the same, and always timed everything just right. It was entertaining to see him walking to work and carefully not stepping on the cracks. I know that I used to do that when I was younger. Actually, I still do that sometimes now. It's such a fun game! I could relate to Harold a lot since I really like numbers and I think that I'm OCD in some things. Of course, he was an extreme case, but whatever. It was fun. I wish I could do mental math as quickly as he could!
It certainly is interesting to think about what it'd be like if your life was being written in someone's story, or even if you were the author and you were confronted with your main character. When you write a story, does that suddenly create a character in another universe exactly like your character? If you decide to kill them off in the end, do you become a murderer? Realistically, all of those thoughts are obsolete, but it's still fun to think about it.
Seeing Harold go insane from having a voice in his head was awesome. Describing those papers as an endless ocean made me laugh. It was a bit too much when they started to explain his thoughts about Ana. I didn't think that they would end up being a couple. Though, Harold was so cute. One of the best parts of the movie was when he brought her "flours." HAHA! That's so freaking awesome! I was so confused at first when he was just carrying a box full of white bags. Then when I realized what they were I burst out laughing. Well, I didn't quite burst, but I did laugh out loud. I LOL'd in the theater. For a while I thought that they might avoid the whole sex thing, but I was wrong. It's a Will Ferrell movie, Jephthah. That would be silly if they avoided that aspect. You're right. At least it didn't show too much. Actually, that was another funny part. They were in her apartment and he was playing the guitar and then suddenly they started making out with the guitar stuck between then! Ha! That was funny. I don't see how people just go at it like that. Whatever. It was funny.
It was funny when Harold was trying to figure out if he was in a tragedy or a comedy. At the end of the day he had so many marks in the tragedy column! That's most definitely an "I suck at life" moment when you realize that your life is a tragedy by a landslide. I wonder what would make him qualify something as a tragedy as opposed to a comedy? It seems like that would be a hard line to draw sometimes. Aww, it made me happy to see Ana treat Harold nicely and give him some cookies and milk. Those cookies looked so yummy.
I thought that the ending was perfect! Everything revolved around Harold's watch, and then that's what ended up saving him! I don't see how that made the book suddenly just "okay." In my opinion, I thought that that ending was better than him just dying. Though, maybe it was a lot different than before. I'm not sure. It seems like it was the same, just a piece of his watch didn't save him before. Oh well. It was funny either way. It was such a happy ending with Harold being with Ana in the hospital and her keeping him company. Aww, how adorable.
Overall, I would most definitely recommend this movie.
