Movie Thoughts

Talladega Nights
WARNING - SPOILERS!

Another Will Ferrell movie. I had heard that this movie was really funny so I was excited when I finally had time to go to the movie theater and see it. There were some really funny parts, but overall I thought it had too many sexual innuendos and references for my liking. Though, there were a couple of parts that really cracked me up. Like everytime he would crash and just suddenly be stripped down to his underwear running around screaming it would make me laugh. The announcers even commented on it, "How does he take off all of his clothes so quickly?" Heh, it's great. When he was really depressed about life and he was talking about how he was going to be a drug dealer, but a nice drug dealer, my mom and I were laughing. Will Ferrell does a great job being funny. :)

I did not expect for Jean Girrard (the French dude) to be homosexual. That was an interesting twist, if you could call it that. I'm not really homophobic, but I don't necessarily agree with that lifestyle, so seeing two guys kissing on screen made me feel a little uncomfortable. Granted, watching anyone kissing on screen for too long makes me feel a little uncomfortable. I didn't really expect for Ricky and Jean to kiss after the race, especially for that long. Goodness! That's just a little over the top, in my opinion.

Though, something that I did find clean and entertaining was the use of Ricky and Cal's phrase, "Shake and bake." What on earth is that supposed to mean?? It made me laugh though. Jean is getting in Ricky's face about how Ricky is going to lose and everything and all that they say to come back at him is, "Shake and bake!" And then they act all serious as if they are winning the dispute. "Did you see that? That just happened." I remember seeing that in the commercials and I had no clue what thay was really about. Hehe, that was good.

I did think that the ending was clever, though. Seeing them run for the finish line was funny. In real life, though, I think Jean probably would have beaten Ricky since he seemed to be in better shape, but whatever. Seeing Cal win was somewhat fulfilling and it was a good way to have a sort of "everybody wins" attitude. And seeing Ricky's kids suddenly turn into these respectable, intelligent kids was great. By the way, for those of you who didn't know, there was in fact an extra scene after the credits. It really wasn't anything too fantastic, but it showed how smart the two kids had become from their grandmother. It was good times indeed.

If you are prepared to see a movie with a fair amount of sexual references, but some funny parts, I would recommend Talladega Nights.
