What's happening to basic grammar?
I remember back in middle school when I thought it was "cool" to type the letter "u" instead of "you" or "r" instead of "are." I actually changed my habit of typing the full 3 letters in "you" to just "u", usually having to backspace to change what I wrote just so I "fit in." (Whatever that means) What is the world coming to when teenagers feel pressured to use incorrect spelling and grammar in everyday conversation? It is really easier or quicker to shorten everything you could possibly shorten in a sentence? Does it make it easier to read? Not for me. In fact I have to mentally change what I'm reading so that it's basically grammatically correct.
Notice that I never say that everything has to be grammatically correct. I'm not a big fan of English grammar anyways. But when you don't even feel the need to press the shift key every once in a while to just capitalize the first letter in your sentence or the name of someone, I think there's something wrong. What is so bad about using a period once in a while? I just hate it when I see a post that is at least 5 lines long and all of the person's thoughts and sentences combine into one. You know what I immediately think when I see a post like that? "Wow, that person is stupid." Honestly. I don't give their posts as much credibility as I would someone who likes to type complete sentences and spell out the words they're using.
In short, all I want to see more in the never-ending internet is just some effort to look somewhat intelligent. Capitialize your sentences. Use periods. Spell out words. Is that so much to ask? I don't think so.
