I was just going to say...
I find it funny in a setting where there's a speaker in front with an audience and someone in the audience raises their hand to make a comment. Then when the speaker points at them to let the person with their hand up speak they start with, "Oh, I was just going to say..." and then they say what they were going to say. Whatever that means. Yes, we know you were going to say something because your hand was raised, and then you said it. Surprise! You don't really need to tell us that you were going to say something before saying it. It actually sounds to me like, "I was going to say that you are pathetic, but not anymore." Umm... you still said it. You used a paralipsis! Good for you!
I can somewhat understand saying it in a situation where the speaker is about to move onto another topic and then sees a person's hand and the person with their hand up decides to put it down. Then the speaker says, "You wanted to say something?" and then it certainly makes sense to start your comment with, "Yeah, I was just going to say..." But, other than that... not so much.
