Smallville Ramblings

10.8 - Abandoned

Lionel had ANOTHER illegitimate child? Are you kidding me? Lutessa Lena Luthor? That is the most ridiculous side plot ever! Okay, that's definitely not true. Smallville has created some really ridiculous things... but seriously. Tess is Lex's half sister? And she was raising a small clone of him as her child? This is getting pretty strange, people. Oh well... it's the last season. No more ridiculous Smallville story lines after this season. Hm. How sad.

Clark didn't propose this episode! At the rate they were going I really thought he would. At least we got a slight progression towards it by seeing the engagement ring at the very end of the episode. That just means NEXT EPISODE will open with Clark proposing, right? Or he'll at least propose by the end of the episode. They've had sex, told each other "I love you," Clark has asked Lois's dad for permission, they have both confronted their dead parents and feel better about the situation... it's just the next thing on their list. Unless Smallville will come up with something else they have to get out of the way before getting engaged. Goodness, just do it already.

Speaking of Lois seeing her mom--I was so excited/weirded out to see them pick Teri Hatcher as Lois's mom! It is really cool to see a previous Lois Lane (she doesn't look different at all from when she was on Lois and Clark!) counseling the "modern" Lois Lane. I kept hoping Clark would rush back to the house to see Lois crying on the couch watching her dead mother talk to her and just put his arms around her to give her some comfort. But, no. He was a bit distracted with helping Tess and being infected with kryptonite and whatnot. So, we saw Clark use his ice breath to break that chain. Have we actually seen him discover this ice breath ability? I know he discovered his super breath, but I don't know when he made the connection that he could also make his breath really cold. He seemed to use it back in Upgrade when he suddenly changed the weather, but I don't remember seeing him use it before that. Well, anyway. I guess I'll get over it. It was rather convenient for Clark at that moment.

Lois has proven yet again that she is perfect for Clark! She knew that he needed to work things out with Jor-El and took the initiative to do something about it. It completely paid off! I don't know why Jor-El decided to suck Lois up into some blue vortex thing to wait for Clark to get her down, or why he suddenly decided to show Clark that video thing, but it was really cute to see. I guess we're supposed to assume that Jor-El has now accepted Clark as a son again and still has some faith in him? We're just supposed to assume that he suddenly hated Clark because he's not perfect, or something? That sounds a bit lame. It almost seems like they only made Jor-El act stupid so Lois could do something about it for Clark. Eh, I'm okay with that reason. It was cute to see her stand up to Jor-El for Clark.

So, Lois has officially moved in with Clark. Why even get married? You're basically already married. Having sex, living together, loving each other... I'm just a bit bitter. He was basically married to Lana, too. Is the marriage just to make things official and make sure they are actually committed to each other? Yes, yes. Of course it is. It just seems like marriage is being made less important every day. Okay, I'll step off my soap box. It is cute to see another advancement in their relationship.

So this lady thought it would be a better idea to take these girls and wipe their memories so they could live better lives? That's just silly. Sure, it kind of makes sense that perhaps your life would seem better if you forgot a terrible thing that happened to you, but goodness! These are people's lives and personalities you're dealing with! When you take away such life changing memories, you have changed their life and who they are without their permission. That's just stupid. But, as we all know, it's apparently impossible to completely get rid of memories. Tess is starting to remember things for some reason. Something has triggered them. Perhaps the music box triggered her memory to remember this stuff. Yes, that's a good theory. At least she isn't some cloned sibling with fake memories like Grant Gabriel back in Gemini. That was just terribly depressing.

It was a little weird to see Tess and Clark working together on that orphanage thing. Tess reacted quite dramatically when she discovered that Clark was in danger. Now, I know that there isn't anything going on between them and there never will, but it was just interesting. Tess obviously cared a lot for Clark (probably because of what she knows he means to the world and everything) and Clark saved her life. Now, that doesn't mean Clark cares for her. He saved Zod's life for goodness sake. But, whatever. I do remember back at the beginning of season 8 when it seemed like they made a bit of tension between the two of them. That was weird. But, we all know that Clark and Lois are so infatuated with each other that there's no way someone would come between them.

Speaking of people coming between Clark and Lois, I keep wondering if Lana will pop up somehow. I know we've definitely closed that chapter on Clark's life since she's filled with kryptonite and whatnot, but it seems like it'd be more fulfilling if Clark and Lois got her blessing somehow. I'd also like it if Lois knew everything about Clark and Lana's relationship and why it really had to end. If Lana just popped up all those questions would be answered and brought up, it would seem. Maybe next episode she'll pop up after Clark has proposed to Lois and then all sorts of weird feelings will happen within Clark. That would be a fun episode. Or perhaps their way of putting Lana behind Clark was Homecoming since Clark had flashbacks and stuff. I don't know, it'd be fine either way.

Oh, right. We saw Godfrey and his two little friends. Apparently he is still possessed with this evil stuff and he's got some evil friends. How did this sweet grandmother get sucked into that? How did they contact Godfrey? I don't know. Does it really matter? No. All that we're supposed to care about it that they are together and they are going to cause trouble in Smallville land. Oh, and we finally got the answer to who brought Tess to Cadmus labs. It really was an old grandmother with flabby hips. How on earth did she know about Cadmus labs, though? She must be linked to Lex somehow! He needs to pop up! And not as some silly child version of himself!

Alright, bring on this proposal, Clark. I fully expect the next episode to open with Clark proposing. IT'LL BE SO FANTASTIC.
