9.11 - Absolute Justice
I had no idea this episode was going to be twice as long as normal. It makes sense, though, since it's the only Smallville episode title to have two words in it, so naturally it would be twice as long, right? I think they probably would have called this episode "Justice" except that they already have an episode called Justice. I'm assuming when it first aired it was some sort of two hour special and wasn't split up into two weeks with a "to be continued" half way through, since it seemed to flow seamlessly on the DVD set. (Yes, I own the season 9 box set that I still haven't seen yet.) So, supposedly this rambling will be twice as long as normal, right? I don't know. It surely was interesting to see a previous Justice League, but it felt a little weird for me. It was a little hard to follow at first since there were so many new characters and names to remember and lots of new things happening all at once. Though, I think by the end I had it down. My favorite result from this episode is that it seems like the current Justice League will now be more like a family. I loved it when Oliver came in to watchtower and asked Chloe and Martian Oreo Man to dinner. Aww, it looks like they will be a family. Now I'm hoping we'll also see Bart, Dina, Cyborg, and Aquaman.
I was worried that there wasn't going to be any Lois is in this incredibly long episode (that would have been terribly depressing), but she showed up a little more than half way through. There were no Kandorians to worry about (that makes me worry, though), and it seemed like Clark and Lois didn't do much together. I suppose Clark was a little busy. At least Dr. Fate told Clark that Lois was "the key." Then, this is great, Dr. Fate told Lois, "You are the one he will need. He is the one you will need. The savior. The one who will heal us all. The sentient of power." Then Lois says, "I wonder if he does horoscopes." Also, I absolutely loved it when Lois told Dr. Fate, "Nice helmet" and all he responded with was "Thank you." Oh, Lois. You are awesome. So much better than Lana, for sure. Lana is all creepy. You are the one destined to be with Clark. YAY! For once someone who knows what Clark is capable didn't tell him that he needed to ditch his loved one, but that she was actually the key to his success! WOOHOO! They have hope! I wonder if Lois was thinking of Clark. "Could Clark really be this 'sentient of power?'" I think she was. She already had her suspicions of him back in Idol. Then Clark somewhat confirmed it when he got a nice grin on his face at the end after Lois told him what Dr. Fate said. "Yes! I'm the savior he was talking about! We're destined!" That's right you are! Hooray for relationships that are destined to last!
I loved the bantering between Oliver and Hawkman. What was Hawkman's real name? Carter Hall? I wonder if his "real" name has changed over his lifetimes. That would make sense. Anyway, the bantering between him and Oliver was great! It looks like they both served about the same position in each of their Justice Leagues. Oliver is the one who really wants justice and will sometimes step over the line to do what needs to be done, and same for Hawkman. I think they'll become good friends. I must comment on Hawkman's voice, though. He sounded exactly like Batman in the new Batman movies. A bit ridiculous and annoying if you ask me.
I hope they don't take this Justice Society stuff over the edge. Some of their costumes were a bit ridiculous, like Dr. Fate's. Though, I got used to it pretty quickly. I'm just hoping that maybe Oliver can make them some more modern costumes like what he made for his crew. :) It seems like we would have known about these guys a lot sooner. How many super heroes are out there? How exactly did they get to know the current Justice League? It really freaked me out when I saw that notebook with all their personal information in it. To imagine that somebody out there happens to know your secret identity! Just in a random notebook! Eek! At least they are the "good guys," but if they could find out all that information so easily, who else could? As cool as watchtower is, Sylvester was right. Chloe having so much information going out of that place makes her a target for people to figure out what they are up to. Granted, I trust Chloe's firewall abilities and such... but they obviously weren't as bulletproof as she perhaps once thought.
With the Justice League becoming more of a family, I think this will make it so Chloe actually goes out and does things more often. Speaking of Chloe, how is she making money? Does she have a job? Has she had a job since the Daily Planet? Perhaps she still runs the Talon... in her "free time." That somehow took up all of Martha's time when she ran it, but I'm sure that doesn't matter. I don't know how she is living her life. Anyway, I'm glad that it looks like she'll be leaving her watchtower more. With 3 or 4 other people expressing their worry of what she's doing with her life, I think she may be finally getting the hint.
Martian Oreo Man has his powers back! Hooray! I'm not sure how Dr. Fate did that. It seems as though his power is seeing people's fate and restoring it by whatever means necessary. Well, I won't argue too much since he now is much more useful with powers. I didn't know he could make himself... what he did he to dodge the icicle stuff. He turned all green and electrical or something. Pretty cool, though. That also means that if Clark is on the brink of death again, Martian Man can give up his powers again to save Clark. His powers represent Clark's lives as far as I'm concerned!
Now, what Dr. Fate told Clark makes me quite nervous and excited. "Although Lex Luthor is your ultimate opponent, you will triumph over him." "Lex... Lex is dead." (So you think, Clark!) "And when you show yourself to the world, it will be a different age than ours, Clark. A silver age of heroism that will start when they look up into the sky at you with hope for tomorrow. You will have everyone to embrace it." Lex! He will come back! He said will triumph over him! Now, how he will come back I'm completely clueless to. Perhaps that guy that was in the truck that Oliver "killed" wasn't really him. It was some guy that Lex could live through. Kind of like Tess was... I don't know. I should just let Smallville tell me. Now, what the heck was Dr. Fate talking about in that second part? When Clark shows himself to the world? What does he mean by that? He sort of already has by being the Blur. It certainly doesn't seem like a good idea to expose his Clark Kent identity to the world. That just sounds like worlds of stupid. Though, he did say it would be a "different age than ours." So, in the next millennium or something? Would Lois be dead then? Will she somehow become immortal to stay with Clark forever? I like that plan well enough. I guess if he waits a couple hundred years or so it might be safe then to reveal his identity. He'll probably be a lot smarter then. It certainly makes me wonder. I did find it interesting that when Dr. Fate looked into Clark's "fate" he saw the exact same thing that the old lady saw in "Hourglass" way back in season 1. I like it when Smallville makes sense!
Back to the Justice League being more like a family. Stargirl (pretty lame name) said something about eating together with their spouses and such. What that immediately make me think of was Clark bringing Lois along! Everyone there knows who Lois is and she could definitely handle that sort of life! Heck, she already knows that Oliver is Green Arrow! She already knows that Chloe is an awesome hacker and such! Sure, Oliver might get a little jealous of Clark and Lois, but it sounds like he and Dina might be starting to have somewhat of a relationship. "I assure you that those e-mails with Black Canary were purely platonic." Yeah... right. It makes me happy, though. He certainly deserves to be happy with someone. Then when the JL has dinners together Clark can have Lois, and Oliver can have Dina! It works out great.
It worries me that this girl contacted Lois directly. She seems rather evil (I think shooting Icicle in the head gave that away). Why does she want to expose this Justice Society? I thought Clark might be a little upset about the article, but he seemed almost happy about it. I don't know how detailed Lois went into their identities and such (I would assume not much) and that it was more of letting people know that they existed. Though, the fact that Lois has that phone from evil Agent Waller definitely tells us that she is going to use Lois later for her bidding. The fact that she shot Icicle Son with no thought and apparently is in charge of this "Suicide Squad" makes me really nervous. Good thing she has Clark to protect her, right? Though, he's not doing that great of a job at it so far. Though, I must say, being in charge of a group called "Suicide Squad" just sounds stupid. "I lead a group of evil people that then die when they finish my bidding. So really, I'm in charge of a bunch of corpses." Maybe I misunderstood what that meant, but that's what I thought of. Lois mentioned all these villains that the Justice Society had fought being released. It certainly makes sense that evil Waller is the one in charge of that. And somehow Tess is involved. What the heck? How did she get involved with something so evil? I thought she might be somewhat good? Maybe she's part of this group so she can know what they're up to? I have no idea.
Well, this wasn't quite as long as perhaps it should have been, but oh well. It was an interesting episode, and I'm interested to see where they take this. To the next episode!
