Smallville Ramblings

10.7 - Ambush

What a fun episode! I LOVED the beginning of the episode so much. I think I actually preferred that scene to seeing them wake up next to each other in Clark's bed. "So, what are you in the mood for?" "I'm in the mood... just not for breakfast." "Lois, the bedroom is upstairs." "But the porch swing... is out there." So great! It was rather exciting to see Lois' dad and sister pop up as they are starting to go at it. I'm not sure how they knew that they would both be there (I guess they knew Lois was dating Clark?) or why Lois and Clark hadn't tried to make other plans for Thanksgiving... but oh well. Them being there is what propelled this little storyline along. So, let's keep going.

I was right! The next step in Clark and Lois's relationship is ENGAGEMENT. Now, they aren't engaged yet, but we all know what question Clark asked General Lane in the barn. This only means that Clark is planning to propose next episode! Unless something really stupid stops him, but I seriously doubt it. They'll get engaged and then in about 3 episodes after that there will be a lovely wedding episode. Actually, maybe they'll want to save that for the finale. This finale has got to end with them married since it's the final season. But... I want to see Clark and Lois married for at least an episode or so two Smallville. It would be so much fun! I guess I'll have to see what they chose to do. :)

So Oliver and Clark now know that they are being tracked by the Suicide Squad. Tess also explained how they have a connection to Checkmate. Well, kind of. Apparently they would be used by Waller whenever she needed some extra help or something, but after they "died" the Suicide Squad thought they'd just keep doing things with the cover of being dead. Kind of clever. I hope we see that Chloe is part of their group soon. I miss her, gosh darn it! Though, if Oliver and the crew know that Flag is part of the Suicide Squad and that Chloe traded for Oliver to be with them and that she really isn't dead, maybe they'll make the connection that she might be working with them? You know, she probably isn't working for them at all. She's probably underground somewhere. I just think it would work too perfectly for her to fake her death and join them like they all did.

Speaking of Chloe, is Oliver really going to stop coming to watchtower? I guess that makes sense since everyone now knows his identity and is following him and such, but then who is going to use watchtower? Tess and Clark? That just sounds awkward. Actually, now that Lois knows his secret and such, she should be welcome to walk in there, too, right? Then she'll see Tess is now part of the group... I wonder how she'd react to that. Hmm... maybe her and Clark could get it on there.... no, no, I shouldn't be thinking like that. :P

General Lane does have a pretty good point about superheros vs. the armed forces. They go out and save lives and put their lives in danger for others as well, and they have rules, training, and registration to go through. Superheros just go out and do whatever they want with nobody controlling them except themselves, ultimately. I think he's perhaps underestimating how difficult it would actually be to be a hero, but still some good points. Though, it does seem a bit unfair just because these other people have great abilities and choose to do good things with them that they are forced to be known by the government and be watched. Everyone has their own lives to live with choices to help people or not. These other people with abilities can just do it better and more efficiently. Why punish them for that? Why would you try to control their choices but not everyone else? How can they really force these vigilantes to show themselves, anyway? I'm not sure where this story line is going to go, but I'm not too fond of it. I think Martha and General Lane can have some power in making sure it's not actually carried out. It'll all workout perfectly, I just know it.

So are we going to find out who this axe-wielding person is that attacked Oliver? It seems a bit too specific for them to just randomly bring up. Perhaps they are part of the suicide squad, or it's the new person that the dark smoke stuff has inhabited (assuming it's in someone else now)? I suppose we'll see. It really just seems like they are bringing up so many new little things that there's no way they can bring them all to an ending point by the end of the season. They've done crazier things, though. So, we'll see.

It was kind of cute and heartbreaking to see Clark and Lois have a little fight about Lois standing up to her dad. They both have such good points--Lois does need to stand up to her dad. Though, that's a really hard thing for her. Of course you don't want to alienate your family or want them to hate your boyfriend that you feel it will actually work out with. She looked so frazzled when Clark came in and she was cooking. But, back to Clark and Lois's fight in the barn. "Just because you don't have a--" "A what, Lois? Were you going to say 'father?'" "Okay, what I'm trying to say is that you haven't had to deal with a family for a really long time. All you have to answer to is yourself." Does Lois know about Jor-El? Clark has had to answer to about 3 fathers. Jonathan, fortress Jor-El, young Jor-El... though, yes, he hasn't had to answer to Jonathan in a while. He's kind of dead. But Clark has had to deal with Jor-El forcing decisions upon Clark for a while now. Yes, a floating voice in a fortress in the Arctic is a little different than an Earth father. Anyway, Lois does have a point. That's kind of part of marrying into a family (since we know they will get married) is dealing with the in-laws. That's probably something Lois is really scared of: her family. She's expressed that before. She doesn't feel confident being the traditional mother and wife figure that perhaps Clark has in mind. Hm. Real life problems on Smallville. Good one.

It was nice to see Oliver open up to Tess by the end. He's agreeing to be "friendly" to Tess, and even said that she was basically like family to him. Awww.... :) Tess was obviously touched. Speaking of Tess, what is Lex up to? Dying a slow death so the real Lex Luthor can come back? I can only hope.

I'm so glad that General Lane decided to tell Clark that spending time at home was more important than his time serving his country being a "hero." That's such a great message! Family is so important and is seen as second priority so often nowadays... way to go, General Lane. I'd be happy to see Clark as a family man that saves the world on the side.

I'm really happy with the way Clark and Lois's relationship is progressing. For once Smallville is actually making a relationship I want to work actually make progress episode after episode. Usually I'm disappointing by having a stupid episode that doesn't advance anything in between such good moments--but now they are being so nice to me! I love it! I have so much faith that next episode we'll see Clark propose and they'll be so happy... so, without further ado, here I go to the next episode.
