Smallville Ramblings

7.18 - Apocalypse

This episode cracked me up. First of all, I really did doubt that they would look into the whole Clark Kent absence consequences. I wish I had rambled about that a bit more in last week's episode. I was thinking along the same lines that Clark was thinking. I thought that there wouldn't be a meteor shower or meteor freaks or anything... but that doesn't make any sense at all. What caused the meteor shower was the planet exploding, not them sending Clark to Earth. That, and Kara was sent to Earth regardless. So, most of that stuff relating to the meteor shower still happened. Oh, and Lex so obviously went much much worse without Clark there. Mwhahaha!

I'm liking this whole Clois thing they're starting to develop more. I've always had this desire for Clois because we all know that's the relationship that's supposed to stick. Clana... we just all hope for it, but know that it's not supposed to end up that way. Chlark, that's just something that we've never really gotten a taste of, and would love to see develop. But Clois, Clois... it should go somewhere. Clark obviously cares a lot about her. He now knows that she at least has an inclination to go out with him. She did with her first impression in this alternate universe. Maybe Jor-El wanted to show that to Clark so he'd ditch Lana for her? Eh, maybe. I loved it at the end when Lois got all awkward and punched Clark in the shoulder to break the tension. Aww... she bought him a "brew." They've got to do something with that later. Well... no, they don't. They love throwing in these little things for different relationships, especially for Clois since we all know they are "destined" for each other anyway.

I loved the Chlark going on in here, too. I know Clark felt a twinge of disappointment when he saw that Chloe was engaged to this other guy. See Clark, that's what happens to Chloe when she isn't busy with you all the time. She actually meets guys and can spend time with them and get married. I guess we're supposed to assume that Jimmy went out with Chloe for a moment from that bowtie? Aww... how cute. I guess it didn't work out for whatever reason even when Clark wasn't there. Does she work at the Daily Planet? She was still really into being a reporter and all. I don't know. I guess it doesn't really matter since it didn't really happen. It was just in an alternate universe. (Unlike the whole Smallville show...)

I'm really hoping that Lana is going to come back out of this coma thing before the end of the season. I'd be really sad if they just let her character kind of fade away from not being conscious. Not to mention that it would utterly and completely crush Clark. He doesn't get anything else done because he's all focused on finding a cure for Lana. I don't see him giving up anytime soon. Though, I'm not sure why he's wasting his time looking for a doctor to save Lana when Lex already said he got the world's best scientists on it. I doubt that Lex left anyone important out. He still loves Lana and wants the best for her. Clark just doesn't like to give up on stuff. If there's someway that he can find that thing that Brainiac used on Clark back in Splinter in season 5 to kind of suck out the Brainiac in her... that'd be rather convenient. I really don't know how they are going to fix her. Brainiac already told Clark that it was irreversible by humans and completely reversible by him. The only way to bring her back is to find him and have something that Brainiac really wants. I don't see any reason why he would let her go out of the goodness of his heart. Ugh! It's not looking too good for Lana...

It was pretty adorable to see little baby Clark again. Though, it sure does seem like something should explode in the time continuum if Clark picks up himself up as a baby and puts him on the ship. Wasn't Clark's first memory his parents putting him in a ship? Does that suddenly change his first memory to watching himself put him into the ship? I don't know. The whole thing is kind of confusing. I'm wondering where all the other Kryptonians were. Where's Jor-El and Lara? Everyone seemed to just disappear.

So, what the heck happened to Kara at the end? Something to do with Brainiac? That's all I can figure. I thought it was kind of funny when she dropped the milk bottle. I mean... was it that urgent to grab her head that she had to drop the bottle? I would have tried to put it on the counter or something. It looked intentional to me. I think she just wanted to drop it and watch it shatter. Maybe she's freaking out because she messed something up with the time continuum. Yeah... that makes so much sense. I really don't know. I'm assuming we'll find out next episode. Clark will come home or wake up or something and find her there. "Oh crap. First Lana and now you! What the heck is going on?" I'm not sure, Clark. We're all wondering the same thing. Though, he won't be able to bring her to the hospital... he'll probably just lay her down somewhere or rush her to the fortress and beg for something to happen to make her better. Sounds like a good plan. We'll see what actually happens.

Oh, and of course there's a portal at the fortress that can somehow send Clark back to when the planet exploded. Yeah, it just makes so much sense. Gah! I want to see Clark freakin' fly! Sometime before the end of Smallville it's got to happen. Sometime!

I just love Clark's brilliant plans. "Who is this?" "He's from Krypton. Listen!" What does Clark say? "Don't do it, Lex! It's dumb!" Ummm... good one Clark. He's totally going to listen to you and not go through with it. He doesn't even know who you are. He's already lost his confidence in Kara. He's not going to suddenly believe this other Kryptonian who he's never met before. It was almost as brilliant as his plan back in Mortal in season 5. "Yeah, we'll lure Gabriel out here!" So when they get him there Clark's brilliant plan when into play. He comes out of hiding and says, "Don't do it, Gabriel!!" What happened then? Oh yeah... you got shot. Maybe you'll eventually learn that trying to talk these people out of doing terrible things never works.

Of course they had to throw in a scene with Clark wearing a suit that magically fit him perfectly and glasses. Though, it was interesting that when he just kind of showed up in a world that he never existed in, that it was a lot like the Superman movies. Nobody really knew who he was, and he had the freedom of just doing whatever he wanted because they couldn't really arrest him and nobody was going to expose him because they didn't know who he was. I'm not sure what it means. I guess it's just a way to raise ratings for the show since we all like seeing the parallels with the traditional Superman stories. It worked for me. I loved it. :)

I almost forgot! We got to see Sheriff Adams! Aww... such good times. She was my favorite sheriff. (You know... out of the three that we've had.) I'm glad they brought her back. I wish they had brought back Jonathan. We know that he was alive, but we get nothing. Blech. Or maybe even Martha. We never see her anymore. So they somehow still got a Clark Kent? I guess he was just someone they decided to adopt around the same time that they ended up finding Clark, and just decided to call him by the same name. I'm not exactly sure why that really mattered much. I guess it was a way to freak out the viewers. "Oh my gosh! He's been replaced!" Sure, we'll go with that.

Well, I think this will end this rambling. Next week should answer some questions. Maybe. Hopefully. We'll just have to see.
