Smallville Ramblings

10.13 - Beacon

All sort of fun things happened this episode. Lionel finally showed his face, Lex is apparently super evil but now better (?) and impervious to some degree (what the heck??), the VRA wasn't passed (!!), and Clark has all sorts of people that have faith in him. Oh, and Martha was shot or something. Not too much movement in the Clois relationship, but why would there be? Lois has Martha's blessing and received a necklace that Martha received for her wedding day. That was cute.

It's fun that they've been able to bring back just about everyone who has ever played Lex. This kid who played Lex as a teenager in Reunion. I should have known they would have shown Lex as a teenager before they showed him as Michael Rosenbaum, but now there's nobody else they've had play him between teenage age and Michael! Next time we see Lex it's got to be good ol' Michael. Or, perhaps this Lex will die before that. He claims to be losing memories. I want to see the Michael Rosenbaum Lex Luthor that was with Clark in the fortress in Arctic. I'm sure Oliver didn't actually kill him. I've been in denial about that since it actually happened. Back in Harvest they said that he would die in six weeks, right? It's definitely been at least 6 weeks since then, and he's only a teenager. What the heck? He should just die next week, then the real Lex Luthor, not some silly clone, will enter as Michael Rosenbaum and life will be good. Sure, he'll be evil and make terrible things happen for Clark and the crew, but it'll just be so nice to have the real Lex back. I'm looking forward to it.

So this stupid Lionel from Earth 2 read all of Earth 1's journals so he is suddenly aware of everything that happened in the history of Smallville. Well, at least Martha and such. It's so weird, I keep thinking he's really a good guy. He wanted to protect Martha, favors Clark over Lex and thus inherently wants to protect him, and yet... he's so evil. He really is. He wasn't taken over by Clark and rinsed of evilness on Earth 2 like he was here. Perhaps he's just destined to be a terrible father to Lex. Well, yes. That's true. He let Clark kill Lex on Earth 2, and obviously cares more about Clark than Lex on Earth 1 as well. Lex really had a good plan to stopping Clark. It's only natural he would want to save Martha's life, and if he had super sped to the rescue, he would have a couple kryptonite bullet wounds. Now, are Lex and Tess staying in Clark's barn? Why were they still there at the end of the episode? Was Lex really being so affectionate to Tess and really forgetting things, or was he just being his evil self and faking it? How far do his memories go? When did Lex make these clones? It was obviously after finding out about Clark. I guess when he was so incredibly hurt, he made clones of himself to make sure'd stay alive and whatnot. So, does he know that Lana is now wearing that "suit" and is filled with Kryptonite? I would think not. So many questions.

Speaking of Lana, it really seems like they'll bring her back sometime this season. They just keep bringing back all sorts of characters. We've now seen Martha, Jonathan, Chloe, Lionel, Bug Boy, Lex... it's got to be Lana's turn. Hm, I also want to see Jonathan again. That was fun to see Clark talking with his dad again. Anyhow, I would just love to see how Lana would react to see that Clark is engaged to Lois and that she knows everything about him. Perhaps she already knows. She's probably keeping tabs on Clark. Their engagement announcement probably made it to the paper, like it did when it was fake. What would Clark's expression be if he saw Lana? Surely all those old feelings would come back, but not enough to take Lois away. Well, and the fact that he can't get close to Lana without feeling the effects of Kryptonite. I think she'll probably show up to their wedding and just hang out in the back trying to not be seen. When will they get married, anyway? Next episode? The episode after? No, we would get warning before they get married. Clark and Lois would be making comments about getting married the next week and such. So, perhaps in 3 episodes. Hopefully not too much later than that...

I about freaked out when Lionel and Martha were getting so close to kissing! Holy cravitz! Good thing Martha was just humoring Lionel. If she is reserved about Perry White, then why would she go for Lionel Luthor? Not just any Lionel, but evil Earth 2 Lionel. That would just be craziness. We trust her more than that. I didn't like her saying that she was willing to give her life for Clark. I sure hope that's not a foreshadow of her dying later in the season. She can't die! Not too many tragic things can happen in the final season of Smallville! Clark's mom is supposed to live for a while, anyway. We all knew his dad had to die sometime because Jonathan does die of a heart attack in the Superman story. Though Martha should live. DON'T DIE, MARTHA!

So is Lionel really taking over the Daily Planet and Luthorcorp again? How could he do that without Tess and/or Oliver noticing anything? I suppose they've been busy with other things. I sure hope Lionel will turn good soon. He is just beyond evil. He ruins everything. It would seem after Clark saved his life (which Clark obviously didn't want to do) that he might be a little thankful. Aww... the mansion. It burned down. Where else are Clark and Lex supposed to face off? Where will all of the worst security guards get jobs? I guess Lionel will have to bring another mansion from Scotland brick by brick again. Where is Lionel living now? Sleeping in his car? In his office? Oh, details that we may or may not hear about later.

It was pretty awesome to see all of those videos of people expressing their faith in the Blur. Now, I obviously didn't see this when it came out, but it seems like perhaps those were actually Smallville fans that made their own videos. Was there some sort of contest that I missed out on? That would have been awesome to be part of a Smallville episode forever. Knowing that Allison Mack, Erica Durance, and Tom Welling all sat there and watched a video of me proclaiming my faith in the Blur. Aww... oh well. It was fun anyway. That was pretty crafty of Lois and Chloe. Which, it was pretty funny that Lois just asked Chloe to hack into every national newspaper ever. "Well yeah. Of course I can do that, Lois. I can do anything you can imagine on the computer. I'm like the Green Lantern of technology. I think it up and it happens." I don't know how hacking into these newspapers made that possible, though. Was that just a way to get the message across to everyone that they were looking for people to show their faith in the Blur? Sure. Why not?

Okay, why the heck is Lex's skin so tough? Did he clone himself to have super powers? How is that even possible? What powers does he have? Or is he just impervious to things like Clark is? I got worried at the end that Tess was going to kill herself with the cyanide. I had no idea why she would want to do that, but it suddenly made much more sense when she was obviously going to try to kill Lex. Did Lex even feel her try to inject him with a needle? It sure seems like that would make him a bit upset that she tried to kill him. Just a bit. He didn't seem to react, though. Yikes. This can only turn to bad things. Perhaps he won't actually die because of his power(s)? Didn't he shave his head back in Harvest? I guess he didn't shave it again and just let his hair grow back? It seems a bit silly that Clark would tell Alexander that he was different from Lex because he had Tess. Yes, she loved him. He had a good parent for about 2 weeks or so. That would obviously change his entire nature and make him good. Oh, and Clark can obviously turn him into a good person. If only Clark would be friends with Lex everything would be alright. Umm... I'm pretty sure Clark was friends with Lex and it didn't work. AT ALL. Whatever. We'll see where they take this.

So Clark is really considering showing his face and making Clark Kent a disguise? He tried to ask Martha for advice, "So you're saying I should become that hero and step into the light?" "Clark, you are the light." "Oh, how sweet, Mom. Thanks. Now I know exactly what you're saying. I'm the light." I've always liked the fact that things make sense on Smallville in that regard. People don't know Clark's identity because they really can't see his face. How would him suddenly changing his appearance to have glasses make it so people won't recognize him as the Blur? SO many people already know his face as Clark Kent. They would surely recognize him as the Blur when he shows his face. What about all the pictures of him how he looks now? It just seems like the stupidest thing ever to just say that people won't recognize him. Even putting aside the obvious flaw that glasses don't disguise that well. People know his face without glasses. So stupid. I hope he doesn't actually do that, or if he does, it's in the season finale so I don't have to deal with the stupidity for too long.

Alright, on to the next episode! We're only creeping closer and closer to whenever Clark and Lois get married! YAY!
