Smallville Ramblings

8.20 - Beast

Apparently we are back to the incredibly depressing episodes again. What the heck, Chloe?? At least I got some reassurances about Chloe and what she's thinking... but I feel so terrible for her. Okay, I'll get more into that a little later. Davis is getting worse than ever with Chloe as the only remedy, Clark is depressed and angry that his best friend has basically thrown her life away for him (sound familiar?), Lois and Clark are probably both aching for each other, and Jimmy is a recovering drug addict and Oliver is trying to help him out. How on Earth did Smallville get here? Oh boy.

So this opening dream sequence is rather interesting. What is it really saying about Chloe? Does she really have feelings for Davis that she is holding back in order to protect Clark? I about freaked out the first time I saw it. "Nooo! Chloe! What are you doing??" Good thing it was a dream. Though... you can't help but wonder how much she really wants something like that. Is she really doing all of this for Clark more than for Davis? Well, the end of the episode actually confirmed that more for me. It really does seem like it's all for Clark. Even when Clark was about to throw him in the Phantom Zone, Chloe said that she stopped him in order to save Clark the greif of ruining a man's life. It sounded like somewhat of a stretch at the time, but it actually makes sense. It probably wouldn't hit Clark at first, but it really is worse than killing him to send him there. A lifetime of misery as opposed to just dying. Though, I'm sure Clark is thinking that he would prefer putting Davis through that than having Chloe throw her life away. That's one huge decision, and Chloe actually went through with it! She won't keep working with Oliver as Watchtower (well, maybe), she won't finish school, she won't work to get a good job, she won't get married and raise a family--assuming she doesn't marry Davis and that Davis can't have children... I surely hope not anyway. She is just throwing her life away! For Clark's protection and somewhat for Davis since it does seem like she honestly has feelings for him. They just don't outweigh the ones for Clark. Hm.

What else happened in this episode? It's a good thing Oliver is helping out Jimmy and helping him realize his addiction. He really needs some money and help, and Oliver is being a great friend to help him out the way he is. Aww, what a good guy. I'm not sure about him and Tess. I'm interested to know what this job is exactly he's hired Jimmy for. Something with the Justice League? I'm thinking so. The way they were talking about him being a "hero" and having guts and such. I'm not sure what he'll be doing exactly, though. I'm assuming we'll find out relatively soon. Maybe next episode? Eh, I don't know. Let's see.

It was interesting when Chloe confronted Davis about people knowing who he is. When she offered to leave with him, he honestly seemed shocked but did seem to take the offer just to make sure she meant it. Like he was taking it before she ran away and could deny it. Then she says something that takes my breath away: "Davis, I would do anything for you." Gah!! No! Chloe! Though, we really think she meant Clark, right? If protecting Davis will end up protecting Clark, then yes, she will do anything for him. Ugh. What a terrible position. Yet again, Clark has ruined another person's life that he loves. Clark, you are awesome at doing that. At least he hasn't completely ruined his mom's life, right? Though he did end up killing her husband. Goodness Clark. And of course he feels terrible for causing all of this. If he would just man up and accept his destiny to be awesome... well... I supposed he's already doing that, right? He's already saving people in secret being the "red-blue blur" and is falling for Lois and everything. So, I won't completely blame him.

Chloe totally pulled a Clark when she was talking to that doctor guy, too. "Something is keeping him from transforming!" "Sometimes dramatic changes to the body are caused by intense emotions: love, hate, obsession." Then Chloe looks back thinking intensely. "Which is why my presence stops him from morphing." Good one, Chloe! You figured that one out all by yourself! None of us could have told you that like a month ago! That is interesting that he also included "obsession" in that list. Does Davis truly love Chloe or is he just obsessed with her? Or both? When you first fall in love, you're basically obsessed with that person, right? Either way, he's still a creepy guy that enjoys murdering people when he morphs into an evil alter-ego. Not someone I would really want to associate with.

So Jimmy realized that it was Davis that ruined their wedding. Sad day! And Jimmy honestly still loves Chloe... the tears in his eyes when he saw and heard that Chloe is working with Davis. He only concluded that Davis must've brainwashed her to think that she loved him. He honestly believed that Chloe would never really do something that ridiculous. Which, is somewhat true. He just doesn't have the missing link between Davis and Clark and that Clark is the reason she is doing everything for Davis.

Alright... I think this'll do for this rambling. I can only hope that the next episode will offer a little more happiness, however doubtful it may seem.
