Smallville Ramblings

7.01 - Bizarro

The season premiere finally came! At first I was disappointed, but by the end of the episode I was cheering and filled with excitement for next week's episode. Let's see, Lana really isn't dead (surprise!), Chloe wasn't dead but died and came back and refuses to tell anyone about it, Martha is officially gone, Lex is losing his mind, and Clark is on the verge of a mental breakdown. Good times indeed.

There were some parts of the episode that I just had to roll my eyes at and move on. For instance, Clark runs to the little boy and his father and uses his heat vision to evaporate a huge tidal wave. That is just a little too out there. Now, granted, it did remind me of the Superman movie (with Christopher Reeve) when Superman stopped the tidal wave of water by moving a bunch of rocks. I suppose that might have been what they were going for. In fact, in all Superman movies/TV shows, we get these scenes. I guess it's kind of a trademark for Superman to save the day in a cheesy yet triumphant way. *shrug* I'll get over it. Though, there is more that I don't quite understand. What happened to that little kid that was possessed by the phantom? I'm glad he survived being possessed (somehow). I guess he was brought to the hospital when they brought Chloe to the hospital and he's doing fine and dandy. Whatever, that doesn't really matter too much either.

Chloe... I don't really understand her right now. Since when does she keep things from Clark? After all of those talks that she's had with Clark about not keeping things to yourself, you'd think she'd feel free to talk to Clark about what happened. I guess it's possible that she doesn't really know? Though, if that were true, then why wouldn't she just tell Clark, "I don't know! I just came to see Lois and then I woke up in a morgue!" I don't know. There's something big that she's keeping a secret. A secret... why Chloe?? Why are you keeping things from Clark who has told you everything about himself? Hmph. It turns out that one of my guesses from the season finale was right: Chloe was just unconscious! She was just very dead looking while she was unconscious. I guess bringing someone back to life makes you have irregular vital signs... or something. So, let's see. So far we've gathered that her krypto power is that her tears have the power to bring someone back from dead, which in turn puts her in a weird sort of coma until she dies, and then she comes back to life shortly thereafter. That is very odd. Very odd indeed. They're bound to explain it further. Though, I did just get an idea for what happened to her. Though, I don't think it really makes that much sense. Maybe when she was in a coma she had to go through some sort of afterlife in exchange for Lois not being there. Like, maybe she had to go through some sort of hell until her body couldn't take it, or she completed some terrible task that made her die, and when she died she was brought back to consciousness. Did that make any sense? I don't know. That's a little out there, but it popped in my head and I want it here in case it's right in some twisted way.

What else? Bizarro Clark. Well, to be honest, I thought that the first scene between Clark and Bizarro was very unnatural feeling. I think that Bizarro overused his evil smirk and his lip curling up whenever he was excited about being his evil self. Now, anti-climatically, Bizarro's weakness was the sun... and that was it. I'm still not exactly sure what that protective metal stuff over his face was or did. Was that just showing that he was getting weaker? It seems like they showed that metal stuff over his face even when the sun wasn't in his face. I don't completely get it. Oh well, I guess the sun could weaken him enough for Clark to punch him into space which kills him... apparently. I guess if you go into space, the sun's rays are more direct and thus can kill him. In fact, this whole thing reminds me a lot of Superman III when Superman locked the evil Superman in an elevator and flew him into space... that ended up killing him, right? Anyway, I guess it's not that far fetched. Though, when I first saw Bizarro flying through the sky to space, I thought that Clark was flying and dragging Bizarro into space. I got so excited! Then they showed Clark still in the building with his feet firmly on the ground. Oops, my bad.

Lex seems to be losing his mind. I was literally LOL-ing when he was in his office and his...assistant (or whoever she was)... was asking what to do next, and he is just sitting there rambling about how he could have died, but he saw and angel and she saved him! Haha! He's talking funny talk. Then he did something that was completely uncharacteristic of himself: he turned himself in. That just confuses me. Now I don't know if he really did it or not. Well, I guess I wouldn't know unless they showed how he actually set up the van exploding and everything. But, why would he turn himself in? Did he feel like he should since he was saved? Did he feel like he was given a second chance (again) and that he should try to do the right thing and admit to setting up her car? Or is he really depressed about Lana being dead and doesn't have the willpower to do anything to keep him from being in prison? I'm not really sure. Though, what I am sure about is that he's sad that Lana is gone. He's really, uber depressed. Did you see that look on his face when he was looking at that picture of him with Lana? Well, I assume so if you are reading this rambling, but anyhow, my point is he was so sad! Aww... too bad he brought it on to himself. He kind of drove Lana away by making her think that she was pregnant and forcing the marriage on her and everything. Though, I have already rambled about that enough. But, back to when he was saved. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought that the girl in the water was his mom. I thought that it was his mom getting ready to pull him from his mortal body so he could finally be dead like she wants. No, instead this mystery girl saves his life and flies away. I guess we'll see this girl a lot this season since she's already in the opening credits. She's... Kara, right? She looks different than the Kara we saw before (at least I think she does) and no one has confirmed her identity yet, but I don't know who else it would be. Not to mention that the Kara that we know kind of died. I guess Kryptonians are immortal or something. They can always be brought back somehow. Though, this Kara-possibility put on some sort of lead bracelet that appeared to give her powers. Kryptonians don't need bracelets for their power... they just need the sun. It actually reminded me a lot of Alicia, except that her bracelet kept her from using her powers. I guess we'll find out what it's really for sometime in the near future.

No Martha! Now, I assuming that we'll have to see her or at least hear her name mentioned here and there... but she's already been taken off of the opening credits. That is so sad. Clark now lives by himself at the farm. All the more reason for Lana to just rush back from China and for them to get married. :D No, I'll ramble about that later. Oh! Something I remembered about Lex. Where did that recording from the mansion come from? I can only assume it's from his security videos or something. Or maybe... maybe that guy was in with Lana and Lana had some kind of recorder or something that she gave to him for evidence. Eh, that seems somewhat far fetched. If I recall correctly, she wasn't exactly wearing something that would conceal a recorder and have that kind of quality. She must have just chose those words carefully, "What are you going to do, kill me?" already knowing that whoever she's working with can go into Lex's security and get that evidence to throw him in jail. We know she has to be working with someone since the only way that she could have gotten away was in that suspicious white van. Someone was driving it. Somehow she arranged for a flight to China and to get that hideous blonde wig and apartment for her new life. But who is it? Let's see, it's highly unlikely that it's Lionel. He was there to stop her and he looked shocked to find out about her death, and I don't think that he would be thrilled about this plan since then he couldn't get anymore information from her about Lex. Though, now Lex is in jail and the phantom has already been taken care of. Hmm... maybe Lionel would be happy to know that Lex is put away and can't do anymore evil in the world. Who else would have the resources to fly her to a foreign country and have so much taken care of for her? How else would the police know so quickly that Lana is dead and that Lex is a primary suspect from the security videos? Who else has access to those videos besides Lionel and super hackers like Chloe? This is all very interesting. I guess he could have put together an act for the driver of his limousine and the world. Hmm... yes. Perhaps it is Lionel who helped out Lana. Though, I just remembered. I concluded that someone was helping Lana because someone had to have been driving the suspicious white van. Lionel was most definitely not in the white van. Well, we all know he has minions that can do his work for him. Right? Sure. I guess we'll see! (They're bound to explain everything.) By the way, what the heck happened to him? He was thrust out of the building from the explosion of water and was dragged away by some sort of green... something. Then we got nothing else. Where did he go? What was that thing? I guess we'll find out in an episode or two.

Throughout the entire episode I was just waiting for them to show what happened to Lana. I kept looking at my watch and was thinking that they had to throw in some scene where they showed where Lana really was. Though, I have to admit, for a moment there I was starting to think that they actually killed her off because they kept going on and on about her death and didn't show a trace of her. Though, just as a side note, I noticed that in the news report about her being dead, they said, "Miss Lang." She's not "Miss Lang" anymore...she's "Mrs. Luthor!" Oh well. I prefer "Miss Lang." Actually, no. I would really prefer "Mrs. Kent." Hmmm... Lana Kent. Now, maybe not. That just sounds funny. She can marry Clark and change her last name back to "Lang." Yes, that will work out much better. :) Anyway, I got a little off track there. When they showed "China" I just started cheering because I knew that they were going to show Lana. Ha! They totally did! And then, just in case you didn't catch it, they show her take off her awkward blonde wig so we can all recognize her. Then we get to see her look longingly out the window at the same moon that Clark is longingly looking at. Awww!! I loved it! That just brought all the hope I had for them to get together. Now, granted, it would be a little suspicious if Clark wasn't totally depressed about Lana being dead if they were secretly married or something. Maybe Lex can just somehow die and then they can be together without any problems. Ahh... yes. Though, granted, Smallville would be very boring if there was no Lex Luthor. Lex = awesomeness. Whatever. Something will work out. Yay! Yay!

I felt so bad for Clark when he thought that Chloe was dead, and he kind of went into this out of time moment and then suddenly heard her voice. Oh, good times. He saved her life yet again. I kind of expected him to be more relieved to see that she was alive. Maybe he was kind of still in shock and everything. I guess that's somewhat understandable. I was happy to see him stand up Mr. Martian Oreo Man and tell him that he was tired of apologizing for being human. Yeah! You show him Clark! You have human emotions and empathy and you're proud of it! Now, just stay in that denial about Lana run off to China and find her. :) If he can just learn to fly, then he can do what Superman does and fly high into the sky and just listen. He would be able to hear her eventually. But... I'll get off that topic. I'm not exactly sure what my point is. I felt sorry for him when he realized that everyone that he loved was just going to die while he lived on. Though, I know we've encountered that same thought in some episode in season one. Hour Glass or something? He saw all of his family and friend's gravestones surrounding him. Aww... poor Clark. That would suck. But, don't lose hope Clark! Lana isn't dead! Mwhahaha! I knew it... (and so did everyone else)... but it makes me giddy regardless. :)

On to next week's exciting episode!
