Smallville Ramblings

10.18 - Booster

Another superhero from the future. How exciting. Oh, and we got to see Clark actually trying to act like dorky Clark Kent so people won't believe he's the Blur. That was kind of fun and painful at the same time. Clark and Lois still aren't married yet and we didn't get any hint to them getting married next episode. It has to be the finale, folks. So sad. At least it's a 2 hour special, right? I happened to see that in the bottom right corner of this episode. That gives me some hope. They'll likely get married in the first half of that 2 hour finale and then have to fix Lex Luthor trying to ruin everyone's lives before the show ends for good. Ends for good? Smallville will end for good? Hm. It'll probably be good for me.

This Gold Booster guy was pretty annoying. He had that charming smile thing down, though. I don't get what his powers were exactly, though. He could fly somehow and something on his arm gave off some sort of power. Maybe he was in the comics. Oh, what do you know? He was. He's apparently part of the Justice League, too. So I guess they just set him up to be part of the Justice League that we'll never see actually develop. His plan didn't seem too great, though. "I'll go back in time and stop everything that I already know is going to happen because the future already knows what's going to happen!" Yes, that almost sounds like a good idea except for what Clark pointed out: he just changed history by coming back in time. How on earth could he make all of the same exact choices as Clark? But, he seemed to become a good guy by the end. I'd presume that he already knew that Clark's name would be "Superman." I know that Clark's supposed to be called "Superman" in the future, but I really don't get why people think he needs a new name. You must admit that "Superman" is not the most creative name out there. Sure, it starts with S. There are many other things that start with S that would probably sound better. Studly dude, Strongman, Sensationalman, Supreme Powers Man, Seriously Significantly Powered Man... okay. Perhaps Superman is the best name out there that starts with S that actually describes Clark and his powers. He has tons of super powers, and he's a man. A superman. Okay, I give. He can be called Superman. I just thought "Blur" was kind of clever while it lasted.

I hate to admit it, but Clark really does seem like a different person as Clark Kent. It was so cute to see him blundering over his words while trying to get a quote from that one guy. Why would they think that the dork reporter that was just there swiped their little secret book? It actually makes sense. It's not just the glasses that disguise Clark, it's his entire persona. Why must it make so much sense?? Well, good one, Smallville. And good one, Tom Welling. I also liked the very end. I've wondered that, myself. Lois Lane obviously stands up for the Blur/Superman and then she marries dorky Clark Kent? Why would she want to marry him? It would seem a bit suspicious. Lois's response? "It'll work out, Clark. Don't worry about it." Right, Lois. How could people forget how Clark was before he turned dorky? Everyone went from seeing him as a Blur candidate to seeing him as a bumbling reporter that doesn't stand up for himself really quickly. I guess if they ever suspected him, they would go see him now and then be convinced that he couldn't be it. Almost makes sense. What about people researching his past and seeing that he used to save people all the time in Smallville? See old pictures of him? When he does show his face, anyone who went to high school with Clark would immediately recognize him. How could they not? Oh, whatever. I'll get it over. It is incredible how handsome Clark looks without his glasses. Is he really going to wear them at their wedding?? I mean, it seems like he should if he wants to conceal his identity, but... it just seems like their wedding pictures would be ruined! Hm, maybe not as ruined as it would be if everyone knew who he really was. Stop making sense, Smallville! It's really weird!

Cat Grant. I had almost forgotten about her existence. It was kind of nice. If Lois got this promotion, is Cat Grant really going to now sit down in the basement next to Clark? When is Clark going to go up with Lois? It'll drive me and Clark crazy for him and Cat to work together! Ugh! It was cute to see Cat make those Superman cookies for Lois. Though that doesn't redeem her to me! The good thing is the series is almost over so I won't have to put up with her for too much longer. She'll probably be in at least one more episode. I suppose I can stand that.

I don't know how I didn't realize this before, but they took Allison Mack out of the opening credits again! Why on earth would they do that?? I know we've got to see her and Oliver at least once more before the end of the series. Oliver is still in the credits and we haven't seen him since they left in Fortune either! Why would you only put her in the credits for the middle chunk of the season?? We all love Allison! Even if she isn't going to be in very many episodes, at least keep her in the credits to show you still care about her as a character! Seriously. No respect, these days. Like I've said many times before... they better both come back for Clark and Lois's wedding. THEY BETTER.

It was cute to see this kid that was constantly picked on actually do something good, but it was a little weird for me. How did he make the suit go back in? Just because he's such a good person with such strong willpower? Yeah, sure. When Booster was trying to convince him to control the suit, I really wanted him to say, "I'm mad as hell and I not gonna take it anymore!" That would have been so perfect. Well, maybe not. That makes him look like a bad guy... maybe. It would depend on how he said it. If he just said it to himself as a way to give himself the willpower to fight back, it would have been perfect. No, instead, he just said, "I can do this!" Lame, but it worked I guess.

I don't get why Clark said he was a dorky kid in high school. He was the quarterback of the football team! Well, senior year anyway. The only times he looked dorky was when he tried to talk to Lana and fell because of her kryptonite necklace. She had that off by season 2 and they hooked up! There was maybe one season of dorkiness, but even then, he had a rockin' party at his place freshman year! Not to mention him saving so many people... nope. I don't see the dorkiness. I must admit that he's good at acting the part, though.

Alright, now I'm a bit torn because I want to see the next episode, but I'm running out of new episodes! Each new episode I see is one less new Smallville episode I haven't seen. It'll have to end soon, Jephthah. It'll be okay. I promise. Yeah, you're probably right. Off I go!
