Smallville Ramblings

8.10 - Bride

This episode is making my head explode with thoughts. This rambling could quite possibly outdo the incredibly long Crimson rambling. Honestly! Ahh! So much going on in my head! Let it all spill out into words!

Obviously a big part of this episode was all the freakin' Clois and everything revolving around that. I'll try to save that rambling for later so I don't forget some of the other stuff. Let's see... I suppose there's the whole kidnapping Chloe thing by Davis. What the heck, Davis? I guess ever since he was killed and reborn, he's now "blacking out" more often and becoming more violent? I've got to say, I'm glad that we finally saw him in his black out form... but what I saw was completely unexpected. He was freakin' huge! He never really moved fast, either. He's supposedly really fast since Clark didn't even catch him before. Well, that's not necessarily true. When Clark got there Davis was still there, he had just changed back to himself. With those massive claws, I'm sure he was able to move fast enough to mutilate everyone who was there. Good thing he didn't do his complete thing this time. Rather than just wanting to kill people, he seemed to just want Chloe. Why else would he have ended up there? That is very sad. Jimmy might have not gotten hurt if he hadn't tried to protect Chloe. Though, I'm sure he'll pull out of it alright. Well, I guess I'm not completely sure. That'd be so freakin' sad if he ended up dying. Who would be there for Chloe? With her no longer knowing Clark's secret and the awesomeness that Clois, Clark is out of the picture. Jimmy's got to make it. I know it!

Okay, more on Davis. While he was in his Doom identity, he said Chloe's name! I don't get it! Was Davis really conscious through all of that to some degree? If that's true then Davis really is evil. Or something. I mean, what was he thinking taking Chloe? How did she lose consciousness? Why did her eyes get all creepy? Did Brainiac get back inside of her and possess her or something? I did decide that there is quite a bit of good that came from the whole Davis gone evil and kidnap Chloe ordeal. Chloe will most definitely not decide that he is actually a really nice guy and that she only remembered him because they were meant to be together. Now that she knows that he's this evil monster guy who decided to kidnap her... I really don't think she'd be that into him. That is assuming that she knows that this guy is Davis. That's actually a pretty big assumption... I'm not sure about that. Crap! Well, there could be some other good that comes from it. Maybe if she was taken over by Brainiac again that'll somehow get her memories back. I'm not sure if that makes any sense at all... but you never know! I seriously hope she gets them back soon... I can't take it! I mean, she freakin' showed Clark kryptonite this episode. She had no idea what she was doing or why Clark was acting so weird. That is so incredibly sad.

Chloe not knowing Clark's secret certainly added quite a bit to Lana coming back. By the way... LANA CAME BACK! I knew it. For those normal viewers out there who actually watch the preview for next week's episode already knew that before watching the episode, but for people like me that avoid spoilers like the plague, it was a surprise. :) I figured they would since they mentioned her name last episode. If they weren't going to bring her back, I'm pretty sure they would not mention her name just to remind viewers about her and disappoint them that she's not back. (That sentence makes sense... honestly.) Which, I did find it hilarious that Lana comes back for one episode, and she ends up in the hospital by the end. She just can't stop getting hurt! Smallville General Hospital had missed her! Oh man, that's so funny. We also got to hear Clark yell "Lana!" once again and run to her and ask if she was alright. Actually, before he could ask Lana answered the question for him, "I'm okay. Go." We had just missed that too much. Not to mention when she fell to the ground it didn't knock her out! She's always been knocked unconscious so easily before.

It was interesting that suddenly those feelings I have always had with Clana were suddenly dimmed. It was more like they were really good friends, especially since she knows his secret and everything. I mean, there was still that little twinge of love you felt here and there... but it was still all about Lois. At least to me. Well... I don't know. I never really thought that I would be hoping for Clois over Clana. Like really. Though, if Lana's in the hospital now... does that mean she'll be back next episode as well? I hope so and yet I don't know. I could see them dismissing her with a simple line of, "How's Lana doing?" "Oh she got out of the hospital a couple days ago and left town." The end. Though, there's still the possibility that she'll be back. Oh boy... I guess we'll see.

More on Lana... what the heck is she up to?! I never know anymore! Is she really working for the greater good and protecting Clark or is she somehow moonlighting for Lex? I really doubt it since she honestly hates him (or so we thought) to no end and obviously still cares about Clark deeply. She couldn't help but ask Ollie about how Clark is doing before he left. That text that she got certainly makes me suspicious. "Did the Archer believe you?" She was obviously not just there on her own accord trying to protect Clark. She seemed surprised to know that Lex knew Clark's secret, too. Or maybe she was just shocked to find out that Oliver knew that Lex knew Clark's secret. That seems less likely since she probably figured Clark worked with Green Arrow, and Clark was obviously still alive and probably told Green Arrow all about how Lex knows his secret and to watch out. Hmm... I don't know.

Oliver. Apparently he's still pretty upset about this whole Lionel killing his parents thing. Which, I suppose is understandable. :P What I don't understand is why he needed Clark to grab this router. Doesn't he have Bart at his disposal who is actually faster than Clark? The only thing that would make sense for him to get Clark's help is if it was in some facility that required Clark to break in as well or use his heat vision. I think it was just because they couldn't get Kyle Gallner to come back to play Flash. Or didn't want to pay to get him. Or maybe he was "busy" doing some other project for Oliver. I don't know. Whatever... he had Clark to get it for him. Good thing his pilot or whatever was able to wirelessly download what was on that router without Clark giving it to him. By Oliver going and finding this fake Lex he was able to find Lana. Which, why did he suddenly decide to take off his glasses? I guess he could see better without them? It just led Lana (or if Lex was hiding in the shadows) to find his identity. I'm kind of surprised she didn't know Oliver's identity in the first place. I guess she never did know. It's about time.

So Lex... was that really Lex at the end of the episode? Why was he watching that video? How was he watching that video? Why was he hooked up to all this stuff in a dark room without a shirt on? Did he just barely survive and get picked up by Lana somehow and she's taking care of him? Ugh! What a terrible thought! Why would Lana do that? Is she somehow using Lex to do her bidding now with some mixed up idea to protect Clark? I really believe that she's trying to protect Clark and still cares about him. I'm just not getting this Lex angle. I'm not sure who else would've texted her. Where is she living nowadays anyway? How is she surviving? I guess she did get a bunch of money when she divorced Lex. She's probably living off of that. Anyway, back to Lex. Was that random video guy somehow working for/with Lex? Did Lana somehow get that video and upload it to Lex? Either way, that's really creepy that he's watching Chloe and them like that. If that is indeed Lex. I'm not sure who else it would be though! It worries me that they didn't show his face, though. Was it mutilated or something? They probably just wanted to let us wonder if it really was Lex. Honestly, who else would it be? Is he somehow connected to the fortress? Where did he go?? This paragraph is turning into just questions! Seriously Smallville, try answering some of them next episode. Please?

Okay... I think I can move onto Clois. Freakin' CLOIS! Oh man, there's so much to say. Where to start? I guess I could start at the very beginning. A very good place to start. Jimmy has always known what's going on. He knew it back in Crimson, and he knows it now. I was nervous when he said, "I want to introduce you to one of my friends." No, Jimmy! She's got Clark! "His name is Clark Kent." Oh, okay. Good one Jimmy. Then Lois gets in her defensive mood. Aww, it's so adorable. I love how she called him a "bumbling tadpole." LOL! I love Lois! I always have. "Clark doesn't like me, he likes... driving me crazy." Jimmy's answer was perfect! "Flirtation 101, Lane. I mean, that's what a guy does when he's into a girl!" Lois loved it! She couldn't help but smirk and confirm what was starting to be a dream come true. "Really?" And Jimmy is totally right, too! Oh man. I loved how she touched "Mr. Right's" suit after Jimmy left, too. If only she knew that she would actually touch Clark just like that later in the episode! Gahh! So much awesomeness!

Moving on to the next Clois scene... Lois talking to Chloe. "When did you know he was the one?" Another words, "How do I know if Clark is the one??" I'm pretty sure Chloe knew that Lois was talking about Clark just then. Well, actually not since I don't really know what she remembers and what she doesn't. I don't know what she's thinking! Like when she was dancing with Clark and Clark was saying that she was the best friend he ever had, she just replied with, "We've been through too much together. Nothing is going to make me forget that." Really Chloe? Like what?? What's happened in the past three years between you two? Care to share? I just don't get it! I don't get it at all! Oliver was surprisingly calm after hearing that Chloe no longer knew Clark's secret. "Well, that's nice. Just do this thing for me, okay?" Lana didn't even seem to care that much. I mean, she cared but she didn't like freak out like I know I would've if I was friends with Clark and he told me that. Anyway... this was supposed to be about Clois. Let's try again. That was so sweet when Clark gave Chloe that flower from the Homecoming dance freshman year. Aww... so sweet. You could just see how that really confirmed to Lois that she really loves Clark. "Aww, Clark. You're so freakin' sweet! I love you, man!" Exactly like that. I know it.

Okay, this next Clois scene is probably my favorite out of all them, next to the almost kiss, of course. The worst part about their whole relationship is that they don't freakin' talk about it! They are both so embarrassed by their feelings for each other. They cover them up with jokes and other lame comments. We've just had the privilege of knowing Lois's feelings for Clark for a while now. We never really have seen Clark give those feelings back. We've got these little hints here and there... like little smirks and whatnot, but nothing really substantial. Well, finally in this scene we're starting to see Clark realize his feelings for Lois! Oh, in case you don't know which scene I'm talking about, I'm talking about when Lois comes down and shows Clark how to put on his cufflinks. That whole little scene. Aww, it's so great! I love Clark's initial expression when he sees Lois, and then Lois just echoes his expression. Both are speechless by how attractive each is to the other. Awww! Clark even looked Lois up and down. You could see his thoughts in his eyes, "Holy cow... she's so beautiful. Do I actually love this woman?" Lois is just thinking, "Oh my gosh... I freakin' love this guy so much." She's already decided on this fact. We know that from Committed. I'm sticking to the idea that it's this scene that really got Clark to decide the same thing. When Lois was showing him how to put on the cufflinks, the way he was looking at her and the awkward laugh after she looked at him awkwardly... aww... he freakin' loves her. And I really think he had realized it just then.

Freakin' paragraphs being forever... let's see. Clark then decides to read Jimmy's vow out loud with hesitation. "It's hard for me... to put my feelings into words." Could it possibly be that Clark was realizing what he was saying out loud really reflected his true feelings for Lois and then just decided to keep going? Could it be that the director wanted him to read it that way so Lois would more think he was talking to her? Did Clark just want to stop the uncomfortable silence so he thought that reading Jimmy's vow would be a good way to break the silence? Blech, that almost seems the most likely since it's so incredibly dumb. "Man there's all this awkward love tension between Lois and I right now... let me just read this vow proclaiming Jimmy's love for Chloe that's written in first person so it makes it sound like I'm proclaiming my love for Lois. What a great idea!" I'm sure that's what went through Clark's head. At least he noticed that Lois thought he was talking to her. In fact, this is one of my favorite parts of the whole scene. Clark looks up and sees her look of hope and then disappointment when she realized that he wasn't talking to her. He had this look like he was sorry that he wasn't talking to her. "Aww, Lois. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mislead you like that. I do feel that way... I just can't say it for real." Then when he tries to make it better, he can't find the words to explain himself. Lois tries to fill the void by agreeing with him. Clark still can't find words. He just smiles as if it's all okay, but still has this look of apology for not actually saying it out loud. Seriously, as far as I'm concerned, Clark professed his love for Lois in that scene. Gahh!! So much awesomeness!

Okay, so I just re-watched that scene yet again and actually noticed something else absolutely hilarious. When Lois was showing Clark how to put on his cufflinks, I know there was an obvious sexual reference when she just ended it with, "...and it slides right in." I had always looked at Clark's face since he was the one looking at Lois like he was just realizing how beautiful she was. Lois seemed to just be focused on getting the cufflink on. Then I just watched it again and watched her expression. After she says the lovely line that brings the awkwardness, "...and it just slides right in" her eyes get big and you can tell she just realized what she said was an obvious sex reference. LOL! Oh my gosh, I laughed so hard at that. Clark either didn't get it, or just didn't react like Lois did. I'm thinking he just wasn't thinking about that. He never seems to get it when she's referencing sex. "Please tell me we didn't... " *Clark's clueless look* "You know endorphins? They're hormones that are released when the body performs a certain activity." "Like when you play a sport." Umm, yeah Clark. Good one. I doubt he got it. Anyway... that was hilarious.

We've now finally arrived at the scene! Clark and Lois dancing. Not only dancing... but it freakin' leads to an almost kiss! Ahhh! Okay, let's start the analysis. Clark stops dancing with Chloe, and then he immediately looks over at Lois who is conveniently standing nearby... and cue the romantic slow music. They gaze into each other's eyes until Lois gets too uncomfortable and decides to bolt. Good thing Clark won't let her go. He cleverly grabs her hand as she's swiftly walking away. She's so taken aback that Clark just took her hand that she stops and looks at him. Again, no freakin' words! All Clark does is look at her, smile, and then nod his head suggesting for them to dance. Of course Lois isn't going to refuse. She starts to smile right at first since she can't hide the fact that she's freakin' loving the fact that Clark just initiated a dance with her. Back in season 4 when he asked her to dance at his prom, she promptly pointed him to Lana who had just arrived. This time, after they were dancing and Lana decided to show up right at the wrong time, Lois got all jealous from Clark noticing. Ugh.

Anyway, I got a little ahead of myself. After Lois smiles from the joy of dancing with the man that she loves, she starts to feel awkward because they are getting so close and people are watching. Then, rudely and yet so conveniently, this couple bumps into them and breaks up their rhythm. Breaking their dance rhythm then led into them yet again gazing into each other's eyes... they are close this time. Clark was so freakin' annoying to me at this moment. He's showing some emotion, and yet his face seems so expressionless. It's like he's saying, "Come on Lois, figure out what I'm thinking! What am I thinking??" Though, when he first looks at Lois after the little bump, I guess they were holding hands... or something. He glanced down. If that's the case, I wish they freakin' showed them holding hands! Aww... that'd be so sweet. After Clark glanced down and looked back at Lois he seemed to have that same kind of look that he had when he first saw her on the staircase probably an hour or so earlier. Quite possibly thinking to himself, "Man Lois, you're freakin' hott. I should make out with you." Heh, actually I kind of hope that wasn't the case. I'm hoping it was more along the lines of, "Man Lois, you're so gorgeous... I really think I love you. I haven't felt like this since I was with Lana back in season 5." In fact, this whole thing of the writer's making us guess what Clark is thinking is really annoying me. Why can't we just know for sure what he's thinking? Okay, well what came afterwards sure seems like it tells us. That and the last Clois scene I'll ramble about. Lois is looking up at Clark probably thinking something like, "Clark? Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Do you love me like I love you? Are my dreams coming true?" She takes somewhat of a leap and decides to put her hand on Clark's chest. (Reminiscent to the beginning??) Awesomely enough, Clark doesn't react to it. In fact, he seems to welcome this gesture. It reminded me so much of Mortal in season 5 when Clark and Lana decide to have sex for the first time. Lana started unbuttoning Clark's shirt and he didn't react at all. It was just like, "Go ahead... I don't mind."

Okay, off of that paragraph and into a new one. So Lois puts her hand on Clark's chest and he doesn't react. Then Lois searches Clark's eyes almost like she was asking permission to kiss him. Then you can see Clark glance down at Lois's lips! Gah! Yes! He totally wants to kiss her. Then it happens. They both lean in for a kiss. They lean in for a kiss without the help of Red Kryptonite or crazy lipstick. YES! Oh man... if only Chloe didn't have to shout out right then that she saw Lana. If she had just waited for a second longer, then they could've shared their first real kiss. No, then Lana decides to show up. Why did Oliver have to decide to send Lana on over? Or at least encourage her to. That just made life terrible for Lois. Well, and for Clark. Though, he doesn't seem to realize it as much as Lois. Following this lovely entry of Lana, we then move to Clark and Lois confronting their ex and basically ending it for good. (!!) Lois goes off to sulk and Oliver decides to head on over and talk to her. Not just comfort her in an awesome way, but proclaim that they are just "really good friends." I absolutely loved hearing Lois go on about how she came to discover for feelings for Clark. She was still embarrassed to admit that it was Clark she was talking about, though. Understandable, but I'm so glad that Oliver let Lois know that he knew that she was talking about Clark. It was a way to let Lois feel free to talk about her feelings for Clark. That then leads to those feelings just getting stronger. That's just what happens! Once you realize you care about someone, then suddenly you realize everything you really like about them. It becomes conscious instead of unconscious. Oh man, that's just so exciting.

After the loving scene of Lois talking to Oliver about her feelings for Clark, we then get the scene I'm sure many people, including myself, were waiting for. The confrontation between Clark and Lana. The scene was surprisingly not very tense. At least I didn't sense that much tension. They seemed to feel more free to actually talk to each other. Which is just so incredibly ironic. It was so hard for them to talk to each other about their feelings and the state of their relationship before. Now that it's basically over, they are free to say what they really feel. Lana kept having moments of, "I would have died before I told you this..." Another words, "When we were a couple I would never have told you this... when we had a chance." She was basically just making it clear that they were over. Clark and Lana over. For good! I never thought I'd be so excited about that! Seriously! I was happy to see them seal up that relationship just to pave the way for Clois to become more of a reality than it already is. Though, I've got to say... Clark is stupid. I know, it's a shocker, but he really outdid himself this time. "Maybe you would've [married me] if I had [made you forget about my secret]." Yeah Clark... if you look back on your relationship with Lana, it was at its best when Lana didn't know your secret. That wasn't the biggest problem of your relationship. It didn't cause any problems and didn't make Lana wonder why you were being secretive. DUMB! If I were Lana, I would've just smacked him right then and there. Although Clark looked hurt when Lana admitted that she wouldn't take back the choice of leaving him, it certainly looked like he smirked a little bit when she said where she was right then "felt right." What Clark? Where you are right now feels right... when you're with Lois?? That's what I'm thinking he was thinking. I loved Clark's comment of, "I could've used some warning." Another words, "I was about to make out with my new love, Lois, and then you rudely interrupted that. I would've planned to kiss her before if I knew you were coming." I'm telling you, that's what he's thinking! It's a good thing I can read these character's minds. It makes it so much easier. :P One final thought before moving on to the next paragraph of this endless rambling... "Maybe Clark Kent and Lana Lang just weren't meant to end up together." That's right. You know who are meant to end up together? That's right. Clark and Lois.

Phew. One more scene to talk about and this rambling will end. Honestly. It just happens to be probably the best moment of the entire episode. I'm pretty sure I've said that 3 times now. Oh well. They are all true. :P Clark goes and sees Lana in the hospital... starts to show some love and Lana refuses him. He takes back his love and walks out of the room to meet up with Lois! Oh, so great. She's already crying and upset because her cousin has been kidnapped by some monster, her cousin's new husband is fighting for his life, and the small detail that the man that she loves has just seen his former love of his life and was hanging out with her. I'm so glad that Clark rushed in for that hug when Lois was starting to lose it. That's what she really needed. A nice Clark hug. I think it's a goal of mine to get a nice Tom Welling/Clark hug before I die. Oh, what a great goal in life. Okay, back to Clois... after Lois decides to walk away from Clark we see Clark's mouth actually open when they lose eye contact and she turns around. He can't believe that she's walking away from him so hurt! Aww, man! The look that they shared right before she left for good... oh man... that was awesome. I really think it was at that moment that each of them finally knew how they felt about each other and they each knew that the other felt the same way. Lois didn't look at Clark like she did before going in for the kiss earlier. She wasn't searching for his feelings in his eyes. They were just looking at each other like, "There is so much crap going on right now... I really just want to be with you. I love you." Something along those lines. That look that Clark had as she was walking away actually reminds me a lot of the look of extreme hurt he had back in Promise in season 6 watching Lana ride off with her new husband Lex. Obviously that situation was much more drastic and he was feeling more hurt... but there's a relation there. His feelings for Lois are really starting to parallel those feelings he had for Lana for so long. *sighs deeply* I freakin' care about this show too much.

Okay... I think that's enough for this rambling. We needed an extra long rambling for the long break we're going to have before a new episode! We've got to wait until freakin' January before we get another new episode. I guarantee that the next rambling won't be nearly this long. I actually doubt that I'll ever top this rambling's length. I suppose it's possible... but seriously, this is ridiculous. Okay, I'm done! Off to the next episode!
