Smallville Ramblings

9.18 - Charade

What a depressing episode! Who knew that Smallville could crush all of my hopes and dreams for Clois in one episode?? Okay, I knew they would. I was getting so hopeful for them to finally be honest with each other and "L" each other (finally!) and then Lois has to ruin everything! "No, Clark, you can't tell me you're the Blur because then the Blur wouldn't be properly protecting me. Instead I'm going to be mad at you while telling you not to tell me your secret which is the only way that I won't be mad at you. You're stuck! MWHAHAHA!" That is what's going through Lois' mind, people. I just know it. She's ruining Clark's life and her life without even knowing it. It's all so tragic! Okay, I must admit, it's not nearly as tragic as the Lana and Clark situation back in season 6. Yikes, that was messed up. At least Clark and Lois can still be dating each other and somewhat happy. There's just this stupid problem in the relationship. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

Okay, I'll try to discuss some other things besides Clark and Lois. What else happened this episode? Anything other than Clois mania? Oh, we know that the "red queen" exists. At first I thought it might be Tess, but that didn't quite fit. She wouldn't want to get near checkmate. Maybe. But, the second time I saw that scene I had the fleeting thought of Martha! What kind of a twist would that be?? I have no idea how it makes sense, but I think I just remember that she had a red outfit somewhat like the one the red queen was wearing. She's a senator and working with the government and would of course want to protect Clark and the gang (that I can only assume she knows about?), so it almost makes sense. I think I may be grasping for straws and just hoping to see Martha again, but it makes me excited to think about the possibility.

Something with Tess happened... oh, her and Chloe talked a bit. I guess Tess doesn't know that Chloe is watchtower. Though, I think she might be connecting the dots. Did she not think that Chloe knew that Oliver was Green Arrow? Hello! She's known forever! Whenever there's anyone's identity in secret Chloe knows about it. Goodness, Tess. Haven't you caught on by now? I think Tess might be just a bit jealous of Chloe and Oliver. Just a bit. Then Chloe had to just take a stab at Tess, "At this rate you're going to run out of people to betray." Ouch! Tess isn't as bad as Lex was! At least I don't think so. Why can't we just all get along? With Tess's help the Justice League could become even better! Yes, it's a risk, but Tess has proven that she is trustworthy by keeping Clark's secret. That's huge.

Okay, so Clois. Why did this new editor have to make things worse for Lois and Clark? Is it not allowed for them to be dating? I guess that's fairly common practice in many businesses for the employees not to date each other... or at least the bosses not dating their employees. It doesn't seem like it'd be that big of a deal for Clark and Lois to date. I guess the point the editor was trying to make was that because they were dating they weren't getting any good stories lately. Therefore one of them has to go? That doesn't make much sense to me. Can't it just be like in Lois and Clark the TV show and have them be partners on all of their stories? That's what they do anyway and it works out quite nicely. They surely can't stay fired for too long. I mean... it's Lois Lane and Clark Kent. They were at the Daily Planet together. How could that change? Maybe that new editor will die somehow and then Perry White will become the new one and hire Lois and Clark back for some reason. Then everything will be as it should. He'll like Clark and Lois dating and then they'll get married and everything will end happily ever after. That's my plan. Let's see how closely Smallville follows it. At least with them both fired they'll have more time to spend together. Maybe.

It was so sweet to see what Clark set up on the roof the Daily Planet. (How did they get up there so easily now that they're fired?) What I'm wondering is how the rest of that evening went. "Am I enough?" *awkward silence* "Let's talk about this later. Let's just eat dinner together in silence and then we'll go home." "Sounds good." It sure seems like it'd be super awkward for the rest of the evening. And to think--they were going to tell each other "I love you" and then share all of their secrets! GAH! I did think it was a bit funny when Chloe came to talk to Clark about not sharing his secret with Lois (that he wasn't planning on doing anyway) and then it ended up convincing Clark that it might be a good idea. That plan backfired, Chloe. At least I know now that Clark wasn't eavesdropping on Lois to give her privacy. It's been "driving [him] nuts." That's so good of him... though she's in so much more trouble that he thought. I'm glad he knows that Zod was calling her, though. It seems like the perfect opportunity to just tell her that he's the Blur! He was going to, too! Then Lois had to ruin everything by providing the logic that makes just too much sense! Of course her knowing his identity and people knowing that they are together is going to put her in danger. That's just the life of Lois Lane! Everyone knows that you love Superman, and so they all go after you. But, there is some flaw in that logic. People already know that she was in contact with the Blur and are already going after her. You're already in danger! It won't matter too much if you just knew everything. Not to mention you are putting Clark in the worst position ever! I was telling my husband that I'm so glad our relationship is nothing like Lois and Clark's. It's so complicated. It doesn't have to be this complicated if they were just honest with each other. They've got to tell each other sometime. There's just no way that that relationship will work out if there's these secrets. It'll be hard if and when you get married, Clark, if you randomly disappear without telling Lois. Or if you're in danger and she has no idea why. If you really want to be together, you have to take the risk of knowing Clark's identity.

I really thought that Clark might tell Lois he was the Blur right at the end. But no, he decided he had to break Lois' heart by breaking it off between her and the Blur. At least when Zod calls again she'll be more weary. I think she might easily just think that the Blur changed his mind or something. Clark has made himself stuck, though. Unless he tells Lois his secret, if she starts believing the Blur is calling her again and Clark knows about it, there's no way he can convince her otherwise except to call her again, which just sounds like a mess. This could be good, though. He'd be stuck in telling her his secret. He'd just have to. I find it really hard to believe that Lois would be that upset at Clark for knowing his secret. It's so different than she thinks. There's really no way to protect Lois better than to just tell her. I think so, anyway. When people contact her, she'll at least know the whole story. She wouldn't have helped Checkmate if she knew Clark's secret. She wouldn't be talking to Zod. She couldn't be tricked like the way she is currently. She'd be much safer right now if she knew. If I were in her situation and then heard that Clark was the Blur, I'd feel so terrible! "I put him in the worst position ever!" I'd want to know. I'm sure Lois does too, despite not saying it out loud.

I'm so glad that they brought up Clark and Lois not saying "I love you" to each other and them not having sex (indirectly). It's beyond obvious that they do, they're just afraid to admit it. But, alas, after everything that happened in this episode they still haven't. It must be coming up soon, though. I kind of hope that they decide to save sex until they get married (because we all know they will get married... right?). It'd just be that much more special, and their relationship deserves to be that special. Though, I kind of doubt that they'll wait. It'd just be nice.

Okay, that is enough Clois rambling for me. It better start getting better. Clark better tell Lois his secret and Lois better be completely honest with him. It's the only way.
