6.17 - Combat
What an interesting episode! I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but this'll do. :) Clark and Lana are obviously both very distressed and Clark is acting like he is on Red K! Holy cravitz! And hey, I was right about Lana and the honeymoon. She obviously didn't feel comfortable with it so she said she was worried about the baby. Ha!
I really have no idea what to think about Lex and the baby. What exactly did he do? I've seen some ideas that the baby possibly didn't exist in the first place and that it was part of Lex's plan to have Lana marry him or something. That doesn't seem likely to me. The first conversation where we find out that this pregnancy isn't normal would have gone differently. I definitely think that something was growing inside of Lana and that it's some sort of twisted experiment of Lex's. That nightmare that Lex had in Promise was about the baby being all evil and coming after Lex... why would he have nightmares about an imaginary baby being evil? Perhaps it'd be symbolic of his evil act coming back to get him in the end? Maybe. But why did Lana faint spontaneously in Rage if she wasn't pregnant? Lex did seem surprised when he heard Lana mention a child in Static even though he was in an alternate dimension where he didn't have to act. Nope. I don't think that the baby is a fake.
My theory is that Lex somehow got whatever was growing inside of Lana out. Oh yeah, something else to disprove the invisible baby theory. Lex obviously drugged Lana or something in this episode. He gave her that drink and then didn't drink it. (as far as I could tell) Then he was at his place and checked his watch... "Oh! Lana should be passed out by now. Get your act on, Lex.... Oh my gosh! Lana! I need help!" What is Lana really thinking, though? She was telling Lex that she lost their baby, but how can she seriously think that? What did she do to lose their baby? She suddenly just had these strange contractions and *poof* the baby is gone? I wonder if she's suspecting Lex of doing something to lose the baby. That last conversation between them was awesome. "How can I make--How can I help make the pain go away?" No, Lex. You can't control everything. Then after he asked that Lana didn't even look at him. She just looks off to the side to her imaginary Clark as the wedding bells are in the background. Has anyone else noticed that all of Lana and Lex's sweet love scenes are accompanied by creepy music? Oh, and Lana didn't even bother even attempting to hold Lex's hand back. And before that when Lex went in for the kiss and she turned her head for a kiss on the cheek--burn!! I loved how she turned back and smiled at Lex like everything was fine. Oh, Lana... you know you can't keep that up for the rest of your life. You need Clark.
I suppose there was another storyline in this episode besides Lex and Lana. Oh yeah. Titan and Clark. Was it supposed to be a big shocker to find out that Titan was from the Phantom Zone instead of being a meteor freak? I sure wasn't surprised. Though, seeing Clark in his leather jacket again was awesome. The only way he can de-red-Clarkify (a new verb!) himself is to confront Lana or figure out what exactly happened on that day. Or maybe he could finally hook up with Chloe or Lois and be happy with them. But, we all know that won't happen this season. *sigh* I just want to see Clark happy for once. He never seems to get anything he wants, except for maybe a couple of episodes back at the beginning of season 5 when he was with Lana and without powers. Now Lana finally knows his secret and it could finally work out. If only Lex and Lionel were out of the picture. The Luthors just bring all kinds of trouble into my Smallville fantasy world. They kill off Jonathan and take Lana away from Clark.
Chloe commented on her krypto-power! LOL! "Super-sleuthing." I think that means hacking any computer within a matter of minutes despite any kind of security. Except for the security on that website, apparently. Though, you know, there is something I've never quite understood. Why must they always print out full size high quality pictures of anything with significance? They do it all the time! And in this episode it led to Lois finding the Fight Club. Though, I know she's not the only person in the universe that knows the abbreviations to military hangers. You'd think someone else would figure that out, or they would have been smart enough to paint over something like that. Whatever. It's not that big of a deal, I suppose. Though, what exactly was Lois planning on doing? Did she plan on posing as a stripper trying to find radiator fluid? (or whatever it was she needed) It's pretty convenient she had that outfit in her closet--just in case. "Oh, that red suit is cute. I might need that if I ever want to pose as a stripper looking for radiator fluid at a fight club." Heh, whatever. Though, she did scare me when her and that other girl were going in like they were going to kiss. I really didn't want to see a Lesbian kiss, especially with Lois. Phew. Good thing nothing really happened. Oh yeah! I thought that was so cool when Clark said, "My turn" to Titan. He had that evil glare in his eye and he said it really evil-like. Oh... non-redK redK-Clark. Sweet!
Clark confused me. Didn't he tell Chloe that Titan couldn't kill him if he killed him first? Then he goes and rambles to Martha about how he just killed Titan before Titan could kill him... well, duh Clark. That was your intent, wasn't it? I don't really see the big issue here. Oh, wait. Yes I do. It's Lana. He's not moping about Titan at all... it's Lana. Sure. Though, it does make me wonder if they are going to touch on Lois hitting a metal six-pack when she punched Clark. That would really hurt. Holy cravitz. I've punched concrete as hard as I could before (I know, I'm dumb) and it really hurt. Lois probably broke her wrist or something from punching Clark. Knowing Smallville, they probably aren't going to get back to that at all. Oh well! I can just fantasize, I suppose. It was pretty convenient that Lois got knocked out during their whole fight. It seems like it's pretty easy to knock someone out... especially right before Clark uses his powers.
Oh! And Lex got the autopsy on Titan--not human. I'm not exactly sure what that could lead to, but it seems like it could be important. It's linked to Clark... though I'm not sure how Lex could link it back to Clark. I guess it just gives Lex more research concerning extraterrestrial people. *shrug* Whatever. I guess that's all about that thought.
Overall this was an interesting episode. Mostly just seeing how Lana and Clark are coping with the marriage. I can't wait until next episode!
