Smallville Ramblings

7.16 - Descent

This episode sure opened up a lot. Lionel is dead (which I'm in denial about), Lana's life still sucks, Lex has embraced his dark side, and a bunch of other good stuff. Let's dig in.

So Lois and Jimmy are still working together. I thought it was kind of funny when Lois was trying to be the hero, and then Lex's woman shot her and Lois's response was, "You shot me??" Like, what the heck, man? Why'd you shoot me? That hurt! Yeah, Lois. She works for Lex. She doesn't seem to really have a heart when she wants something done. She wanted to protect Lex and didn't really care what she had to do to accomplish that. You got in her way, so she shot you. It's a good thing that she put them in that freezer thing. I mean, not so good because they would have died if it wasn't for Clark, but it seems like Lois being in the cold slowed her bleeding. It might have saved her life. (Kind of) Speaking of saving lives, I had no idea Clark could use his heat vision like that. I could just see it in the writer's room. "Well, Clark's going to come and save them... but how?" "Well, he could just swoop in and pick them up and bring them out of the room and then rush out before they realized what happened." "Eh, they'll know that something picked them up and that they could move really fast. That would make Lois want to investigate it." "Good point." "He could just open the door to let them out." "Eh, they'd see him." "No, not if they were unconscious." "If he opened the door while they were unconscious, they wouldn't know he opened the door and die anyway. Clark wouldn't just leave them there." "So, he could heat them up so they wouldn't die." "What, with his heat vision?" *laughs hysterically* "Sure, he'll use heat vision and just somehow emmit this heat vapor from his eyes." *silence* "Any better ideas?" And they went with it. That was pretty ridiculously long. Oh well. I'll go with it.

I loved it when Lex and Clark had a good heart to heart talk. Lex always gets defensive and somehow twists everything Clark says to suddenly be all his fault. "YOU KILLED MY FATHER! I'M A TERRIBLE PERSON BECAUSE YOU WEREN'T MY FRIEND!" Okay, first of all Lex, if there's anyone else to blame for you being a bad person, it's your father, not Clark. You were kind of a jerk to Clark and he eventually started hating you for it. You also kind of made Lana a freak. (Well, not as much as Brainiac did... but whatever.) Second of all, you are always in charge of yourself Lex. YOU made you, not other people. They sure influenced you, but you always had the final decision in everything you did. I blame no one except yourself. Silly Lex.

So Lex... why did you decide to kill little Alexander? Oh, you're a cruel and heartless person. I doubt that he actually got rid of him. I mean, he's just in Lex's imagination. You can't kill something imaginary by throwing it in the fire. Definitely not. He'll be back. I hope so. He's so freakin' adorable.

You know who else will come back? Lionel. There's no way that he's staying dead. He was (and maybe still is) Jor-El's vessel or whatever. Jor-El was able to bring Clark back, it makes sense that he would be able to bring his own vessel back. (Maybe) I don't know... to just lose him like that? They even did the thing of Clark putting dirt on his grave like he did for Jonathan. Though, there is a good thing that came from his death. Now we know for sure that nothing will happen between Lionel and Martha! Mwhaha! Well, I suppose now it's like they're both dead. We haven't seen Martha all season long. I think we heard her name... twice? Something ridiculous like that. I hope that she knows that Lionel is dead. They were really good friends. It seems like it'd make her sad to hear it. Eh, I seriously doubt we'll ever know if she knows. She's not really in the show anymore anyway. Nobody seems to care. Except me.

At Lionel's funeral, when Lex saw Clark and started walking, I seriously thought for a moment that they were going to hug. Now that I think about it, it doesn't really make sense, but that's what I thought. Aww... that would have been cool to see. No, he just walked away. "Oh, it's you. Didn't want to follow what I wanted? You wanted to come despite me un-inviting everyone? Well then I'll just LEAVE!" And he leaves. I'm glad that Clark came. He looked very Superman-ish in that scene, too. His hair, his expression... he just looked like Superman. Which, I guess that's who he is. :P

I feel like rambling more about Lex. I really like the fact that they kept showing little Alexander coming back to haunt Lex. He's really trying hard to get Lex good again. I can't help but think that Clark had a part in that when he went inside of Lex's head in Fracture. He does have somewhat of a conscience. He really did seem to miss Lionel. He felt even worse when he realized he didn't have his key. That's probably why Lionel was smiling while he was falling to his death. "I'm dying and you still don't have what you wanted! Hahahahahahaha..." *SPLAT* Exactly. But then Chloe stupidly thought that her desk would be the best place to hide this key. Your pocket? In your shirt? Seriously. Both of those would have been better alternatives. Of course Lex would check her desk first... and what do you know? He did. And now Lionel hiding it there did no good. Eh, that's okay. Now he's faced with the inner struggle to actually go to Zurich and open the safe to control Clark. I kind of want to see it happen. I want to see what Clark would be like while he was being controlled. AND Lex would then know that it was Clark who was the Traveler. I thought it was clever of Lionel to tell Lex that he was the Traveler. Well... kind of. It didn't really make that much sense... but it worked for me. It didn't look like Lex took it, but it might have gotten him thinking.

I loved the fact that Clark totally won his conversation with Lex. "I have proof!" Then he just slyly walked out of the room and Lex was left there to think about how evil he is and how much Clark knows about it. Oops. Too bad the picture got destroyed. Oh... I just remembered. Who the heck was that guy that conveniently killed Lex's girl? You knew when she called Lex and just said she knew who the Traveler was and conveniently didn't say a specific name that she was toast. I was just wondering who would kill her. Not Clark or Chloe. I could maybe see Lana... but she's kind of not really there right now. So who better than someone we don't know? Yeah, I have no clue who he is or why he killed her. I would think it was one of Lionel's men that he hired to protect Clark or something... but he's dead. Maybe he hired him before. I don't know. What is going on?

So, I think that'll do for this episode's rambling. On to the next episode!
