8.22 - Doomsday
This season finale certainly didn't disappoint, except for the fact that they freakin' KILLED JIMMY! It was still very good. I was riveted the whole time with my emotions going on all sorts of roller coasters. Oh man... so many things to talk about. Let's just let my mind do its thing!
The opening was interesting. First of all, why did Clark know that Garth was going to come and meet him on the roof? Clark also revealed his dumb side yet again by not letting the Legion help ("The Legion didn't unleash Doomsday, I did...") and Garth yelled at him like he should! "Kal-El! Stop being dumb! Let us clean up your mistakes!" Then, he gets this look of concentration and slowly says, "Maybe this could be my destiny... to kill Doomsday." GAHHH!! Umm... CLARK? Where have you been this whole season? Everyone and their mom has told you that's what you need to do. Then he is just now realizing it. Or, perhaps, he said that as a way to make Garth feel better about Clark doing what he should do. I can kind of see that one, but Clark is still dumb. Garth then tells him that tomorrow is the day that he dies. So, my question is: Did that come true? He even said at the very end, "Clark Kent is dead." Let's start a new paragraph about that.
Hasn't he said that he was going to leave his emotions behind and fulfill his destiny like 3 times already? He's come to this realization at least once before--what makes this time different? Well, he can't find Lois, and he realized that he should've killed Davis in the first place. Though, I'm actually still on Clark's side on that one, kind of. I still like the idea of Clark wanting to save everyone and not give up on them. That really is a good way to live. He believes there's good in everyone and works to save that good part. In this case, it didn't work out so well, but how was he supposed to know that? He could also blame Oliver for giving him that kryptonite arrow that made it so Doomsday got away when he was split. I don't know if Clark would've been able to stop him, but he sure had a better chance than they did. Ideally he would've been able to grab him right then and kill the bad guy, and then Davis would've woken up later. Granted, he was going to find out that Chloe got back together with Jimmy, and probably still would've been mad about that, but the killing of Jimmy probably could've been prevented by Clark somehow. Then Davis could accidentally kill himself or something so Clark wouldn't have to live with a guilty conscience. It could've worked out. It's not all Clark's fault.
Lois. Lois was back this episode (YAY!). I always enjoy the episodes with her in them more. She is "missing" because she used the time ring and went back in time. I can assume. Or maybe she went forward in time and saw what Clark became, and that convinced her to go back in time to fix everything. I don't know. Her going back in time also gives me hope that we'll be able to "fix" everything like we've done so many other times with time travel. Maybe we can go back, and Clark will kill Davis before he can kill Jimmy, and then Chloe and Jimmy can live happily ever after and Lois will know Clark's secret. Then they'll hook up and all will be fine and dandy. *sighs* One can hope. She could also go back and restore Clark's confidence in himself so he doesn't have to abandon his friends to fulfill his destiny. Or something. That part of the storyline so far is the only hope I have. I'll hold onto it for dear life. LOIS! SAVE SMALLVILLE!
I was worried at first about Oliver when Clark was acting stupid again and said, "You're not one of us anymore." Oliver looked rather angry. I thought he might go on a rampage and do something stupid again. But no, he decided to just leave Clark out of it and do it his own way. Which is smart and dumb at the same time. I think Oliver did cross the line and should have some more faith in people, but Clark is acting rather hypocritical. "We can't kill Davis! There's good in him! You are bad now! You're shunned!" Umm... can't you see the good in Oliver and maybe try to "save" him? Hypocrisy. Clark's really good at it.
I was so hopeful for Jimmy and Chloe! I was so excited and happy that they were finally going to get back together and everything would be awesome. Jimmy knows Clark's secret, Chloe can be with him without telling lies about Clark, they can live in their little place together forever, etc. And then DAVIS has to come in and KILL him! Davis!! I honestly thought there was some good in him, too. I can understand why he would be upset, but I guess he just has this temper that gets the best of him with or without the monster part of him. He obviously wasn't thinking rationally, either. Killing Jimmy would not get Chloe back. I'm thinking he just wanted to give her the same pain she was causing him. I am hopeful for Lois to come back and restore things to how they were with Jimmy NOT dying... but the fact that they had his funeral and Chloe gave his camera to his little brother... makes me not as hopeful. Jimmy is quite a bit younger than them in the movies and such, so it would fit. Then again, Clark is also older than Lois in the movies, which isn't the case here. I don't know. That's just terrible. What is his younger brother's name? Maybe he'll go by Jimmy in honor of his brother? I don't know! Terrible! Why must Smallville always kill people and mess with my emotions!
Oh, right. Clark is working on this goodbye letter and won't show Lois. Then he suddenly disappears and she gets a call from the Red-Blue blur. (Side note: when I was watching this my husband called me about a second after Clark was calling Lois. Perfect timing! My superman! :)) You'd think Lois would be a little suspicious that Clark happened to leave just as he called. And she knew that he was nearby since he delivered the letter to her. AND she knows that Clark was just working on something that he wouldn't show her. It sure seems like Lois could put it all together. I don't know. She's in some other time period now, so we'll just see where that takes her. Oh, but she did have the BEST line ever! "Seriously, you have a significant deficiency of pronoun modifiers going on!" Lois! I love you! Nobody else could pull off that line except for maybe Chloe. That's great.
My next question is... who did steal that orb? It wasn't Bart or Clark... and certainly wasn't Lois. Are we supposed to know? Did it just break out? We do know that it popped right up at the end and released Zod. Right? Oh boy. I don't know. I sure hope that wasn't Brainiac either... we couldn't tell. I can only assume it's Zod, which is also somewhat frustrating since he always ruins everything, too. But I deal with it. We'll see what havoc he has to bring.
Also, when Clark went back to bring Doomsday back when he was killing people and such, he saw the phone booth and that Lois wasn't there. Then what happened? A freakin' car flies towards Clark and he catches it. I'm thinking that when things get reset (with Lois's time travel and such), Lois will still be there and Clark catching that car will show Lois who the Red-Blue blur is. I'm telling you! Well... maybe. That would still assume that Doomsday was still there and Clark still had to bring him back, it just seemed a little odd to randomly throw that in. I'm sure it cost a good amount to money to shoot and so I'm sure it had more meaning than just looking cool.
Okay, that'll do for now. I'm excited to just jump right back in to the first episode of season 9! I should always wait forever to watch the season finale so I can just see it resolved quickly.
