7.03 - Fierce
I freaking loved this episode. It was full of such wonderful moments! Specifically associated with Clana. I'm sure if I wasn't a Clana fan, I would have hated this episode with a passion, but luckily I love that couple to pieces. Yay!
Let's see, I'll start out with everything not associated with Clana first. I'm starting to like Kara's character more and more. It's funny to see Clark acting like a parent to her. Man, I'd be frustrated too if I were her. I mean, she can fly and Clark completely can't. He hasn't really given her that credit. It's all just "Don't do this" and "You can't control that" and "Don't expose us to anyone." He doesn't have much trust in her right now. She even proved herself at the end of the episode when Lex confronted her about her saving his life. And when she, you know, saved Clark's life by blowing up the kryptonite. Which, by the way, I'm now confused as to what kryptonite does when it gets really hot. We've seen people melt kryptonite, we've seen Lex heat it up until it turns into purple kryptonite, and in that same episode Clark used his heat vision to turn the kryptonite ring into purple kryptonite. This time when it was heat visioned (what a fun verb), it simply exploded. That's a new one. But, anyway. Lex won't find out about Clark that easily, now that Kara stood her ground about saving Lex's life. Way to lie! :) Though, it seems like Lex is going down the path of Clark's real origin rather rapidly. He knows that Kara is Clark's cousin. That's not a secret around town. They kind of announced her name as "Kara Kent." (And now we have yet another alliteration name.) Lex is certain that she is the one that saved him and flew off. I didn't even make the connection until this episode that both Clark and Kara's first meeting with Lex is when they saved Lex's life from his car being submerged in water. Though, Lex can't exactly make a video reenacting what happened like he did with Clark. I'm not sure where that's all going to go, but I'm interested to find out.
Lex is acting like a good guy! I'm kind of confused. It's rather convenient that he is, too, because he's protecting Kara and Clark's identity. It was hilarious when you could see that hint of the evil Lex come out when he told Kara that he already protected her. "I've already protected you, like I would have protected others close to me if they had told me the truth." LOL... who is he referring to? Possibly Clark? Though, I'm not sure how much I trust that statement. In season 1, maybe. In season 6, no way. Now, it's a possibility. Though, he seems pretty sure about it now. Though, he hasn't seen any proof of Clark's secret. He's been this sure before, and then something happens that makes him doubt himself again. *shrug* I don't know. They'll expand upon it later.
Kara likes... Jimmy? Seriously? Out of all the guys on Smallville, she likes Jimmy. And at the end it seemed like Jimmy had something for her too. Now, that just isn't fair. All of the Kents seem to mess up Chloe's love life. Chloe is already depressed about being a meteor freak, having an aggressive new editor, and having Lois passing her up in her passion... now she's starting to lose Jimmy to Clark's new cousin in town. At least Clark will still be her best friend, and he's always there for a hug. Oh, yeah. Then Jimmy decided to tell her that they need to hunt down meteor freaks. Umm... not so great with the timing, hotshot. You know, Chloe has become sort of like Clark was before. She now has a secret that she isn't willing to share with anyone. Not even Clark. I mean, at least Clark knows that she's meteor-infected. (I was going to say "meteor freak," but she's not a freak.) Clark just isn't exactly sure what her power is. In fact, we're not even sure what her power is. She can bring people back with her tears. This knocks her unconscious until she dies and then she comes back to life. That's it. Anyway, I guess I can see why the editor said that Chloe had lost her spark. She doesn't want to do meteor-related stories anymore because then she'd be exposing people like her. It's rather sad, actually. At least she still managed to do the article, even if it was reluctantly done. I'm not sure where they are going to take all of this.
Oh yes... these "weather girls." Kind of a lame subplot. We've already had a freak that can freeze things (even if it was back in season 1), and I wasn't really convinced about these girls. I don't know, I didn't really care too much. I was more focused on all of the Clana-ness everywhere. The other stuff was just kind of there. I guess we've had more lame plots. Whatever, it doesn't really matter too much. Though, what I don't really get is how Jimmy is alive. How was he still alive when he was freezing? I guess Kara got there just in time. If the weather girl was just there for a couple more seconds and got the car a little colder, then he would have died. So silly and yet so convenient. Aw... that reminds me of the hospital scene. Clark's first question to Kara is whether or not she was seen. She was, but that's not the point. "I thought you'd be proud of me." If Clark had just learned that whenever you criticize, you have to have good and bad. At least Lana was there to set him straight.
I can't take it anymore. Clana! Clana! Clana! Finally! This is probably everything that us Clana fans have been wanting to see for about 6 seasons now. Lana and Clark are together and Lana knows Clark's secret. What I liked most about it all, though, was the fact that there wasn't any kissing. Sounds kind of weird, huh? Well, without them just making out, we finally get to see what love really is: just talking to each other about whatever is bothering them and being there for each other. The little things. One of my favorite moments from the episode is when Lana is walking out of the room to leave Clark and Kara some time to talk things out, and Clark smiles at her and she grabs his arm. That was a little confusing, but if you saw the episode, there's a chance that you know what I'm talking about. It's awesome! Though, another thing about that scene, why did Lana leave? "You guys have some issues to talk about." Oh, right. Clark and Kara have so much to talk about. Lana, you just came back from the dead and you know Clark's secret and haven't had the chance to really talk about it. Of course you and Clark don't have anything important to discuss. *rolls eyes* That's okay. Luckily, they threw in some other lovely Clana scenes. My favorite scene from this episode was, by far, the scene when Clark and Lana are in the kitchen talking about Kara. They are talking about Clark's powers (in a sense) and Clark doesn't have to hide it, and they are discussing whatever is bothering them. I don't know, it was just fantastic. It was like they were married and it was just another day of love. There wasn't any contention, just discussing things out.
Of course, that's not everything I have to say about them, either, but I didn't want that paragraph to be too long. :) It feels kind of weird for everything to be so perfect between them. I mean, we got a glimpse of that back at the beginning of season 5, but we didn't have the added flavor of Lana knowing Clark's secret. Now there really is "No more secrets" and "No more lies." Like when Lex came over and was trying to scare Lana by saying that Clark might not see what she did as that great... umm... Lex, I seriously don't think that Clark cares that much. Lana isn't dead, knows his secret, and it willing to spend the rest of her life with him. It's basically everything that he's ever wanted. I don't think anything can get in the way of them being together. The only reason that he has pushed her away in the past is to protect her. Now he doesn't really have to worry about that. Though, I do think it's kind of funny that the writers attempted to throw something in there to make it seem like there's some reason that Lana and Clark can't be together. Lana will die eventually and Clark won't. Oh, right. So Clark should just break up with her so he isn't sad when she dies in the future. Ummm, that is one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard. If she is there and they love each other, they should be together. Clark would be sad when she died either way. In fact, he would be sadder when she died and he didn't take the chance to be with her. It's... dumb. "You're going to die before me, therefore to prevent my depression, I'll break up with you now." Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. Though, I thought it sounded somewhat unnatural when Lana told Clark that she wanted for them to "grow old together." It was sweet, but it seemed too obvious that they were relating it to what Kara had just told Clark. It would have been fine for her to end it at them being there for each other every day. Oh well, I'll get over it. Really, I will.
There still wasn't any Martha. We got Jimmy back, but no Martha. Clark mentioned her to Lana, but that was it. That's so sad. You'd think Clark might want to fill her in on some of the details in his life. "By the way, Lana isn't dead, and she is living with me on the farm. We plan on getting married. Hope to see you soon!" No, he just tells Lana to remind him to thank her later for the small task of raising him. Goodness gracious, Clark. Speak to your mother. She's already out of the opening credits. She needs to feel loved.
I just remembered more I was going to say about Clana. Sorry if you're not a fan of Clana. In fact, maybe you should just become a Clana fan since it seems like we going to see a lot of that in future episodes. *gets all excited* Anyhow, right. It was rather convenient that Lana already knew Clark's secret when Kara showed up, because she just kind of unexpectedly super sped into her clothes. Lana might have suspected something if she didn't know otherwise. Though, you know, I still haven't seen a scene that I want to see between the two of them. I want Clark to show Lana all of his powers and explain when he got them. Like his heat vision. "Remember when there were those random fires and I happened to be at all of them? Yeah, I had just gotten heat vision." "Ohh... that makes so much sense!" Maybe they do have these conversations and we just don't get to see them. Psh. Let us see them! Right. Oh, and there was more. I was excited when Lana was slowly walking up to Clark in the barn. In fact, I just remembered that another favorite moment of the episode was when she gently, lovingly, placed her hand on his shoulder to let him know that she isn't Kara. You could see on Clark's face that he knew that touch. I kind of wish there was more dialogue in the scene besides "Lana!" But, like I said before, I was happy to see them hug. I was kind of expecting a big make out session, but it was a hug. Aww... so great! Now, this is kind of interesting, when we see them again in the house, Clark's shirt is unbuttoned. I'm almost positive that his shirt was buttoned in the barn. What does that mean? I don't know. Surely if they had sex we would know. Especially since Clark doesn't really want to with his powers and everything. It's just kind of interesting. Maybe it's symbolic of how he felt imprisoned by his sadness, and then was finally free when Lana came. Or something. I don't know, that's a stretch, and it's kind of lame. Whatever. I think that's all I have to say about that.
Man, I'm so pumped for next week's episode. What are we going to see with Lana and Clark? Will we finally see Lionel and what he's been up to? Will Lex confront Clark about his powers? (doubtful) I guess we'll see! Yay!
