Smallville Ramblings

7.09 - Gemini

Wow, this episode was just full of surprises! Chloe finally gets the guts to tell Jimmy about her power, Julian Luthor really is dead, and Clark is frozen in the Fortress of Solitude and is being replaced by Bizarro Clark. Fun fun!

I half-expected Grant to end up shot in an alley at the end of the pre-credits because it reminded me a lot of Rage. They decided, yet again, to start another episode with Lois making out with her boyfriend. We all know that that just leads to trouble. But, alas, nothing came from it. I'll get over it. Though, I did love it when Chloe gave Clark his "daily freak out call." It showed how much she cared about him in a cute way. Aww...

So, clones. The writers seemed to think that clones would be a good idea for all storylines in Smallville right before they went on strike. "Wow, how would we explain something as crazy as Lana clearly being blown up in a car or Julian Luthor actually being alive?" "Easy: clones." "Oh, that's good." I knew that it made no sense whatsoever that Lionel would put Julian up for adoption. And, what do you know? He really doesn't exist. He's just a clone that Lex made so that he would have some family to be with. It is an interesting idea, and horrifying. That must have been utterly terrible for the Julian mess-up clone to try to find his family only to find out they don't exist. In fact, his whole life is a lie. It's somewhat like the Matrix, though not quite. He can't escape to the real world and find real people. He doesn't belong. And then to top it off, he gets shot by Lex while Lex is yelling, "You're not my brother! You're a mistake!" In fact, that reminds me a lot of Frankenstein. Lex is the only thing that's anything close to family, and he just completely denies the fact that he created him and decided to get rid of him. Tsk Tsk. Lex isn't getting good at all.

Now, I could tell something was different about Clark throughout the episode, but I didn't expect to see that it was Bizarro Clark. Well, I did right at the end right before they showed it. I just thought that something happened to him in the fortress or he had some other kind of Kryptonite that was changing him or something. I guess that explains how he was able to fly and why he didn't have his cell phone. He had a really lame excuse for being gone for so long. "Time is so different, I didn't realize how long I was gone." Yeah... psh... that was dumb. Then Lana didn't pursue it any further. "That's great, Clark. Did you find Kara?" Blech. She actually seemed to be getting better, too. Dropping her fixation on Lex and everything. Now Bizarro Clark is just going to dig up all of those old feelings again. I felt somewhat robbed at the end of the episode. We had an entire episode without seeing the real Clark. Just dumb Bizarro Clark.

Okay, I'll keep going with Bizarro Clark. When he was talking to Lana in the barn and he said that he thought he knew a way to "get them on the same page," I really thought that he was going to whip out a ring and propose. I mean, it's what we've all been expecting, right? He's only informally proposed to her like 4 times already, and they're living together at the Kent Farm. It'd just be so perfect. But, no. He wanted to bring down Lex. So, he isn't afraid of sharing all of his feelings about Lana, Chloe, and Lois. At the end you could tell he was really showing interest in Chloe. Like when he checked her out right before she left. Maybe something will come from it! Oh, man. Now I'm really excited to see if they do anything about it. It seems like Chloe wouldn't go for it, despite how much she wants it. "Hey, umm... Clark? What about Lana? I know that you love her and everything and this is finally your chance for everything to work out with her. " She's a good friend like that, but it'd still be fun to see. Maybe we can get that bug back from Rush and Chloe can go all crazy again. Oh... fun stuff. Though, it does make me wonder if we're going to settle this whole fake Clark thing by next episode or not. I hope so. I like seeing the real Clark at work, not a fake Clark ruining everybody's lives. Though, at least this Bizarro Clark has a better idea of how to act like Clark. Oh, but I have to admit, when he told Lana, "We'll get him together," I just cracked up. It was obviously not like Clark at all. Somehow his voice stopped being all low and creepy in this episode, though. Convenient.

So, here's a question. Where the heck did Bizarro Clark come from? I'm assuming it's the same Bizarro Clark from before, right? Perhaps Mr. Martian Oreo Man hid him in the fortress according to Jor-El's command "just in case" and then decided to unleash him when they froze Clark. But why did they wait two weeks to let Bizarro out? And how does Bizarro Clark have all of Clark's memories between Bizarro and now? Or... does he? I don't know, it seemed like he did. Eh, whatever. I'll try not to think about it too hard and just wait for them to fill me in next month. Yes, that's a good plan.

I'm glad that Chloe finally told Jimmy about her power. Though, it would have been a little more ideal to have her tell him before they broke up and Jimmy and Kara hooked up. Oh, well. Now we finally know what her freakin' power is! Well, at least a better idea. Apparently she can now control it. That's good to know. So, let's try to revise this. She can heal other people's wounds but, she feels the pain herself and then eventually heals herself? Or something? I don't think she actually gets the wound, she just feels it. That's why they never showed her finger hurt or her having a gaping stab wound when she healed Lois. It's too bad Clark doesn't know about it yet. :( There's something that Jimmy knows about that Clark doesn't. That's just weird. Another thing about Chloe and Jimmy. The writers could try to not make it so obviously parallel Clark and Lana's relationship. I mean, it was kind of cool at first, but it's even the same lines. "You're still the same Chloe." *cough* "You're still the same Clark Kent." Eh, that's okay. I guess it has to be there for the slow people.

Oh, man. So I couldn't control my laughter when Jimmy asked Chloe, "What did I do to make you think I wouldn't accept you?" Umm... try everything ever. "Meteor freaks are freaks and we need to hunt them." "Meteor freaks should die." "I hate meteor freaks." "Meteor freaks, blah blah blah..." Yeah, that's what you did, Jimmy. But, of course, Chloe replies with, "Nothing" so she can take all the blame. Just like you, Chloe. That's something else. (You know, if you were in my head you might even know what "that" is referring to. Luckily, I'm about to tell you.) "I do this thing when I think that the world is ending and I grab the first guy I see and sort of end up in a lip lock." Sad, Chloe. So sad. You are going to dismiss that kiss with Clark as just a "thing" you do? But, that's okay. Even though it made me sad, it was funny.

Oh, right. The main storyline of the episode. So, this guy is threatening Lois, who is suddenly this hotshot reporter at the Daily Planet like she's supposed to be. I don't know, it just seems too sudden. Well... maybe. I mean, she's still in the basement. How could she be doing so awesome and still be at the bottom? I suppose this wasn't necessarily about how awesome she was, but rather a way for Lex to control her how he wanted. Oh, that was a classic moment in the episode. "Merry Christmas, Lois. I just bought the Daily Planet." Oh, snap. That can't be good. I'm excited to see where they take that. If the writers ever decide to get back to writing. Come on... some of us Smallville addicts will start shaking and having seizures if we are deprived of Smallville we thought we were going to get.

So Lois is single yet again. She always ends up with the guys that have some major issues or hero complexes. Lois, just open your eyes. Kill Lana and steal Clark. It's a perfect plan. Well, just make sure you don't get caught. Then Clark would have to break you out of jail and you'd have to live your live on the run. Umm, yeah. Out of my fantasy and into the TV fantasy. Lois is now broken up with Grant. At least this time she wasn't dumb enough to end it with a kiss to just remind her of what she's missing. Though, I really doubt that she cared about Grant as much as she did for Oliver. First of all, Oliver was hotter. Second of all, I thought that Lois and Oliver made a really good couple. Third of all, Grant is a clone and deserves to die anyway. (Mwahahaha!) And last of all, Lois needs to be with Clark anyway. So, really Lois, it's a good thing that you and Grant broke it off. It's really quite simple once you break it down.

I think this concludes yet another fantastic Smallville Rambling. Tune in next time (January 31st) for the next episode and then proceed to read my rambling. You know it's what all the cool kids are doing these days.
