9.20 - Hostage
Martha is the red queen! I was right! (Kind of) Clark and Lois are a little rocky though I have lots of hope, Martha is dating Perry White, Lois and Clark have their jobs back, Lois is on great terms with Perry White... oh the promising storylines that are unfolding! Anytime now Perry White will likely start working at the Daily Planet with Lois and Clark working together for him and they'll be married, Lois will know Clark is the Blur... oh, it's going to work out so perfectly. Well, provided that Clark won't get sucked to another world. That could likely ruin everything. But, we all know that he won't be. Here we go.
I'm a little saddened that Martha coming back wasn't much of a surprise. Unfortunately Martha was the featured character on the episode selection on the DVD... so I sort of knew that she had to come back sometime. LAME! I HATE SPOILERS! Oh well. Perry White was a surprise, though! I'm a bit angry (like I'm sure Clark is) that Martha is dating somebody and brought him home for the weekend, but maybe it'll work out. It would be a bit weird if and when Perry starts working at the Daily Planet and he's married to Clark's mom... weird. She's obviously not ready for it, though. She was almost crying the entire episode as she remembered Jonathan. I must admit, I shed a couple tears when Perry walked through the front door wearing Jonathan's jacket. Oh Jonathan! Why did you have to die?? Alright, I'm semi-over it since it did happen way back in season 5, and the fact that he isn't actually a person in real life. Jonathan Schneider is alive and well.
Clark was being somewhat of a jerk to Lois at the beginning of the episode. He didn't have that lovey-dovey look in his eye he's had most of the season when he looked at her, either. Well, he sort of did when she was walking out the door and he went to grab her. I'm glad that Lois decided to be honest with Martha, though. It was rather awkward to pretend that everything was hunky dory. I was a little surprised that Clark lied to Martha about it right off the bat. Clark lying to his mother?? What reason does he have to do that? She knows everything and more about Clark! Though, she was lying to him, too. It was so strange to see him talking to his mom and confronting her about something she did behind his back. I can't remember a time that he's had to do that before. I got scared that she wasn't going to give Clark the "book" of Rau at first. "We trusted you back in the day, but now I don't. FINDERS KEEPERS!" Why are all of these kryptonian relics misnamed in Smallville? We had the "box" from season 6, and now the "book" of Rao that is really just a disk? I don't get it. I don't get how Clark is supposed to use it either. How does that contain all this information? Do you use it at the fortress and it unloads everything on you? I suppose we'll find out. Or not.
Chloe finally wanted to go out into the real world and have her own life, and then Clark thrust her back into Watchtower. How nice of you, Clark. I hope after all this Kandorian business she really can go and have her own life. She deserves it for goodness sake! It was kind of sweet to see Clark tell Chloe "I need you," though. It was almost like he was abusing her deep pining for him for so many years so she could do his bidding. Though, this really is important and she is really helpful. She really is a hero like the rest of them and can't easily just give it all up. Somewhat sad.
The Blur finally left a note saying that him and Lois need to meet, and we don't get to see the result this episode?? CRUEL! TERRIBLY MEAN! I really hope that's the opening scene in the next episode. Well, I suppose he didn't say where they would meet. He just left a note to tease Lois and will later leave another note telling her where? I don't know. But, it better be resolved quick. Martha is right, the only way to get back Lois is to be honest with her. WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT?? Clark starts another relationship and it ends up ending because he wasn't being honest with Lois. WHAT A SURPRISE. Though, this time was different than Lana, since he really did have intentions on telling Lois but then she told him not to. So, I won't blame him too much, I guess. Though, he really doesn't have a choice. If he wants to stop her from publishing this story about these aliens on Earth bad things will happen. So, I assume everything will work out. They'll probably be married by the season 10 premeire.
So, I guess Martha has been informed of everthing going on in Clark's life. She not only knew about the Kandorians but went out to protect Clark by getting the book of Rao. It was nice to hear that she sleeps better at night knowing that Clark had someone. Aww... Clark has someone. Well... he will by next episode. I'm sure everything will work out fine between him and Lois next episode because relationships always work out just how I like in Smallville!
I thought that Tess's dream was a dream from the start. For one, I didn't think she was sleeping in the mansion since she's "underground," right? And then Oliver got thrown in. Of course when he said "I love you" I knew it had to be a dream. And apparently so did she. We all know that he hates her and is still pining for Lois. Well, he probably still has a soft spot for Tess, but doesn't care too much about it since he feels she betrayed him. Oh, and he's got Chloe. At least they are still together. Nothing catastrophic has happened in their relationship. That was nice of Smallville.
I can't believe that Clark still won't admit that he loves Lois. At least out loud. He was talking to Martha about seeing another side to Lois when he was talking to her as the Blur and how it made him "fall deeper in..." and he couldn't finish the sentence. What the heck, Clark? Everyone else and their mom knows that you and Lois love each other. Lois was ready for both of you to "L" each other back in Charade, and you STILL won't say it out loud. I guess it just makes it that much more special when they'll tell each other out loud. I very much look forward to that moment.
Alright, I think this will do. On to the season finale!
