6.10 - Hydro
I'm telling you right now, this is going to be a long Smallville ramble. This was the best episode I've seen in a long time, even if I'm really mad at Lana right now. Okay, let's get out some flaws in the episode. First of all, why would Linda Lake want to listen in on a conversation between Lana and Chloe? I can see her thinking it was newsworthy that Lex had proposed and Lana's feelings since Lex is well-known... but why would she be there? Just luck? Or was she out to get Chloe for something? I'm not sure, but I don't really care too much because that article was what started all of this! Clark was forced to find out because Chloe didn't want him to read it in the newspaper. Lex found out and then told Clark that Lana is indeed carrying his child so he could stab him in the heart. Everything! Wow! Everything I've wanted to see happen, happened in this episode! Well, maybe not everything, and I didn't necessarily like seeing some things... such as Lana accepting the proposal. But, I'll ramble about her later. Other than that, I didn't see too many major flaws. So, on to what I loved.
Lois finally got a clue about Ollie! It's about time! It was also hilarious when she ended up getting pictures from Jimmy online... heh, good times. Anyway, how was that plan supposed to go from Lois' point of view? She pretended to get hurt and Ollie would be forced to come down to save her in his Green Arrow outfit? Why would he go in his Green Arrow outfit after being told she was in trouble? Wouldn't he want to just go as himself and just beat the crap out of all the guys to keep his identity secret? I guess that's another flaw that I didn't mention before. Or maybe I'm looking too much into it. Either way, I was surprised to see it was Clark! When the Green Arrow first threw the guys, I was wondering how Ollie would be able to do that... and guess what! He didn't! I'm such a dork, when it first showed the Green Arrow going for an arrow and he missed at first, I thought to myself, "Wow. It does show Ollie not always being perfect. That's pretty realistic." Or something... but it wasn't soon after that I saw the real Ollie come out and then I knew it was Clark! Oh! Stupid Jeph. That kiss was a-w-e-s-o-m-e! Clark's face when he had run off was great! You could tell he liked it. Clois is getting developed! It's about time... :) Then of course when Lois told her account on how great of a kisser the "Green Arrow" was, I was laughing so hard inside! Of course, Chloe is kind of in a weird spot. She now thinks that Clark is the Green Arrow in disguise. I wonder where they are going to take that. But, you know, I actually thought for a moment that Ollie was just going to reveal himself to Lois. Though, why would Clark encourage something like that? Clark is all about hiding his identity, except to complete strangers who "promise not to tell." It's kind of funny if you think about it...
Jimmy was very entertaining in this episode as well. When Chloe first saw him and asked what happened and his response was, "Oh, you should see the other guy." I literally LOL'ed. He's so adorable. Hmm, I could have sworn I had something else to say about him, but I can't think of anything in particular. Seeing him fight with Lois was kind of cute. Maybe that was it. I don't know.
Chloe finally fought back to Clark! I have always wanted her to say that to Clark when he got mad about her not telling him about something. Chloe is in a terrible position! At least Clark finally saw her point of view and gave her a nice hug. His comment of liking "intergalactic traveler" was funny. :) Too bad Linda was listening in.
Speaking of Clark's secret, Lana now knows that Chloe knows the secret and won't tell her. Noo! That's just going to push her farther over the edge of being evil with Lex. It's a good thing that Linda Lake decided to pause before saying "Alien" and pressing the key so Chloe could smash the computer. Their little brawl was entertaining and very painful to watch. I was surprised at how far Chloe threw Linda into the street to be conveniently killed by Lana's incoming car. Though... how do you kill water? Did they actually kill her? I don't know. I bet the writer's didn't even know when they wrote that so they could bring her back at any time. Her character reminded me a lot of Rita Skeeter from Harry Potter. Somehow she got all of this private information from private conversations.
Okay. Here it comes, the Lana/Lex/Clark triangle. What the cravitz. We finally hear that Lana does in fact still love Clark. Which, actually, when I think about it, I knew that. She had to still love him deep down. It takes a long time for something like that to completely fade away. But hearing her say it shows that she knows she does too. You know that she isn't completely comfortable with her answer to Lex. You know, I actually started to feel scared for Lana when she was saying all of her reasons for stalling to Lex. You could see this fire in his eyes and I thought he would go into a rage and do something he'd regret. If I felt that way, it makes me think that maybe Lana was a little afraid of Lex's reaction if she said no. So... that just adds another dimension to everything. I believe that she loves Lex, but not as much as Clark. Her love for Clark is more real, while with Lex it seems more like a rebound off of Clark. Lex is doing everything that Clark didn't do, so she sees him as an improved Clark. At least, that's what I think. And, of course, Lex knows all of this. He knows exactly what to do to make Lana happy. He's had a close eye on Clark and Lana's relationship and he knows when Clark doesn't tell Lana something or hides something about himself, she flips out. So, what does he do? He tells her everything. And fortunately for him, he is an excellent liar. So even when he tells a lie, she believes him! She's so wrapped up in his world that when she faces something that would contradict what he said, she dismisses it. Such as 33.1. There was good evidence that it really did exist and that Lex was covering it up. But Lana wouldn't want to make him seem like a liar because then it would be Clark all over again! So, she just tells herself that it's Chloe's stipulation and that Lex is telling the truth. Lana, you're in a very bad situation. Lex is evil. Everyone else sees it but you.
I really do feel bad for Lana, though. She is in love with two men, one more than the other, but the one she really wants is cut off from her for some unknown reason. I know that she knows that Clark still loves her. He just told her that to break it off--but why?? Why would he do such a thing? What's keeping him from her? Does he love and hate me and have some grudge? Why won't he share his secret? And then she finds out that Chloe, her best friend, knows and hasn't told her. What's wrong with Lana? She's so confused. That last scene was a much needed one. Clark wanted her so badly, but didn't at the same time. I bet you he kept seeing Lana sprawled out on the road in her own blood. He's really trying to protect her, but he can't tell her! What to do! It's so terrible... oh... speaking of terrible. Lana confronted Chloe about her preventing Lana from hearing Clark's secret. Chloe's final comment was, "I would never do anything to hurt you." Then Lana stabs her with, "That's what Clark always said." Maybe now Chloe has a feeling for what it's like for Clark all the time. If only Lana could see that Chloe saying that shows that they really are trying to protect her. Why would they just want to get her for some reason? Think back, Lana! They love you! They want the best for you! But, if they want the best, then why are they keeping something huge from me? I'm not special! This is all so terrible! That stupid 100th episode is ruining everything.
I'm typing very quickly, and my hands are shaking. Maybe it's because they're cold, or maybe I'm getting too emotional about a silly TV show. Probably both. I know that there's more to say... oh! In that last discussion between Lana and Clark, Lana did the same thing she's done in season's past. She took something Clark said, "Everything's changed" and turned it around on Clark, "Even the fact that you told me that you look back at the past and regret it everyday?" Oh, come on Lana. You were the one that got pregnant with Lex. Whatever. That actually wasn't what I was going to say. Remember way back when Clark said, "All the time" to Lana asking if he ever wanted to go back in time and make everything different? When I first saw that scene I wasn't sure if Lana was referring to Clark or being pregnant with Lex. Like, I know that it's both, but I wasn't sure if Clark was really in the picture or not. She obviously has thought about that moment a lot and was secretly hoping that something could come back for them because that's what she really wanted. It almost confirmed that he really did still love her. Clark sealed the package this episode by wishing her well with Lex. It was like he was giving her permission, despite everything in his body wanting to go against it. Clark really has some strong self-control. It's so tragic...
Anyhow...I should probably cut if off there. Next week is going to be one awesome episode.
