Smallville Ramblings

10.11 - Icarus

IT FINALLY HAPPENED! HOLY CRAVITZ! LOIS AND CLARK ARE ENGAGED! Okay, I'll try to not make this entire rambling in all caps... but... I'm just a bit excited. A happy dance definitely happened after the opening scene of this episode. I got a little nervous when Lois hesitated slightly to Clark's question, but goodness, it is a pretty big question. I'm pretty sure I hesitated slightly just because of the shock of the whole situation. It was so adorable to see Lois trying to show off her ring to everyone. I was definitely that way... there's this huge rock on your finger and you're so incredibly giddy. Aww... so much happiness. Now, yes, there was this other little story line in this episode about the government calling all of the heroes terrorists and Hawkman dying... blah blah blah. Not that any of that stuff matters nearly as much as Clark and Lois's engagement, but I suppose I ramble about other stuff a bit.

So I was right--this stupid VRA evil man (I guess his name is Slade Wilson) somehow got out from the explosion with only his eye missing/burnt/whatever. No idea how that makes any sense whatsoever, but I guess it's because of this darkness or whatnot. Which apparently Clark was able to get rid of because of his father's medallion or whatever? I completely forgot about that thing. How did Clark know that would get rid of him? Or did it get rid of him? It seemed like it since he... disappeared. It seems like the problem is suddenly really easy to fix. Clark just needs to carry that thing with him wherever he goes and then when he's faced with the darkness, just *poof* get rid of it. Not a big deal. (EDIT: He apparently sent him to the Phantom Zone. Silly me.)

So, Hawkman died. That actually is very sad. Though, he'll be brought back in another lifetime or whatnot, right? How does that happen exactly? I assume he comes back looking the same and everything? How long does it take after he dies before he is brought back? 100 years? 50 years? 50 minutes? And what the HECK happened at the very end of the episode? This white pyramid thing emerges from the ground in Egypt and then suddenly everyone is passed out?? Even Clark! Of course they can't all be dead. I'm just going to assume that it has something to do with Carter being brought back and it's just so... shocking?... that they all passed out from it. So, the next episode will definitely start with Carter being alive and well while everyone else is waking up. Sure. Why not?

We got to see Chloe!! At least a memory of her! Aww... I missed her smile and the way her eyes sparkle. I guess that memory would be sometime during the first episode before Chloe decided to grab Dr. Fate's helmet and after Lois knew for sure about Clark being the Blur. Or MAYBE Chloe popped up again since then and Lois didn't tell anyone. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. NOT. It was cute anyway. It's nice to know that Chloe still knows what's going on in their lives. That necklace that Chloe sent is a little mysterious--are we supposed to remember what that necklace is from? Is it supposed to have significance? Maybe it will in later episodes. Maybe it'll save all of them somehow. Aww... that note that Chloe sent just confirms that she won't be there for the wedding. She'll be there "in spirit." Oh Chloe, you BETTER show up. I don't care what's on the line, you HAVE to be there for Clark and Lois's wedding! I would've been there if all of this was actually real! I'll just hope she'll pop up later. She's bound to. BOUND TO.

It was really cute to see the Justice League throw a little engagement party for Lois and Clark. Aww... they thought they were getting retina scans. What a cute cover up. I liked what Oliver said, "I'd like to propose a toast to the happy couple who has finally figured out what we have known for a very long time now: that you were destined to be together." And when Oliver says WE he really means WE. Everyone watching Smallville with any sort of brain knows that they were destined to be together and be happy. It's all so fantastic! Nothing can get in their way!

I'm glad Lois was able to convince Cat to not turn her in. Cat might just turn out to be a good person, after all. Yay for Lois making people good! I was getting a little afraid that Cat might figure out that Clark was the Blur since Lois obviously cares about the Blur a lot and knew that he had saved Cat at least twice. But, no. It also makes sense that Lois would care about the Blur because she has for a while--before her and Clark were dating.

So it's not good news that all of these Icarus people seem to know Clark's secret because of Slade. Yikes. They should just all die in an explosion like Checkmate did. That was a good way to halt that silliness. At least Slade is gone, but his minions are still there. Bad news.

As exuberantly happy as I am that Carter saved Lois's life, it doesn't make any sort of sense to me. He was stabbed, on fire, and falling from a tall building. I suppose we're supposed to believe that his wings still worked enough for him to slow them down so he could save Lois? I guess that makes sense. It just seems like they both would have been in a lot worse shape if they had just fallen from a building. Speaking of Lois's well-being, her arm seemed to heal awfully fast. I'm assuming it was only a week or so between this episode and last episode and she seemed to be just fine and dandy. Maybe her arm was only dislocated or something. I don't know. I prefer her in good health anyway.

It was fun to see Lois deciding on her last name. I agree Lois, your name looks funny as "Lois Kent." She doesn't change her name in the comics, does she? And in the future when Clark saw their office she was still Lois Lane. She'll probably just keep her last name. I'll be okay with that.

Alright, now that Clark and Lois are engaged I can just look forward to their WEDDING! How many episodes will it take to plan a wedding? I hope not too many! I don't really want the wedding to be the finale because that just sounds like bad news. I want to see them married, gosh darnit! But, even if it was the finale I'd be okay. As long as they actually do get married eventually. So, on to more promising episodes of them being engaged!
