8.15 - Infamous
This episode did not disappoint. Holy crap! We finally get Lois back (it's about time!), still no Jimmy (sad!), Clois was everywhere, Clark got a taste of fame, the usual fix-up of time travel, some more of Davis, and some other little goodies. Oh boy!
I'm so glad that I didn't see any spoilers for this episode. Seeing something like, "Clark tells Lois his secret, refusing to be blackmailed by Linda Lake" would absolutely ruin everything. I was utterly thrilled and excited to see Clark decide to unload everything on Lois. Not only did the episode start off with a Lois and Clark scene, but it was followed with Clark telling Lois his secret and having a nice discussion about it! Holy crap! I loved it. I always wanted Clark to have that type of scene with every new character that learns of his secret. "So, these are my abilities, this is where I come from, remember that time when ---, well this is what really happened." The closest thing we got to that was in Blank when Chloe inadvertently learned all of Clark's abilities. We just have to assume that Clark tells Lana about things he did under the influence of Red Kryptonite that made him look like a jerk and when he had to go for whatever reason. We finally got a scene somewhat like that! Great stuff. Though, I'll get more into the Clois goodness a little later... because it seems like I should.
So, we finally see Davis again. He's taking anti-pyschotic medication to attempt to stop the "blackouts." I'm glad that he is still a good guy trying hard to not let that side come out. I was worried when they first had a scene with him and he seemed different. He seemed too confident and evil-like. I guess taking multiple anti-pyschotics can do crazy things to your head. I feel bad for him. Oh man, he's like a Jekyll and Hyde that can't control it very well. He was born that way. Opposite of Clark, he has a destiny to become a weapon of mass destruction with little he can do about it. Terrible. Though, I did love the fact that he killed Linda Lake. I wasn't sure that she could die back in Hydro. They decided to go with electricity making her not be able to change into her water form. That's interesting. It's funny that Davis killed her. I mean, I'm so glad he did because she likes to ruin everything ever, but then we don't feel bad that he's turning evil and killed her... he just turned into his evil self and killed her. It's wonderful. I was terrified that he would actually break her free, but no. He killed her instead. Yay! :) I'm all for people dying.
You knew when everything started going insanely crazy that Clark had to go back in time somehow to fix it all. Why can't life be like that? You make a choice and then it turns out terribly, so you can just go back in time and try again. "Well, that was obviously the wrong choice. Let me try again." Clark has been able to do that what... 3 times? That's just not fair. Now twice involving Clark telling people his secret, then going back and deciding to not tell them the second time around. Which, it does make me very happy that they've paralleled Lois on the same plane as Lana back in Reckoning. Clark tells her his secret, and then feels like he can't the second time around. :) Oh boy. Okay, so everything was askew. I'm not sure what Clark really expected. It just doesn't seem like a good idea to tell everybody about you. It screwed up Chloe's life as well. Everyone connected to Clark was suddenly a celebrity and couldn't live their lives normally. Another thing that Clark didn't take into account. "Well, this'll be best. You'll see." Though, that little boy that was dressed like Clark and got his autograph was freakin' adorable. Aww! I hated it when they showed that woman on TV who was basically blaming Clark for not being there all the time to save her husband's life. Yes, now everything bad that happens is Clark's fault. Sorry he can't save absolutely everyone. That is something else interesting that this episode pointed out. When someone is just a symbol or icon, but not really seen as a person, you can't really blame them for things. You are just thankful for them, and they are perfect. When people knew Clark's real name and identity, then they humanized him and felt more comfortable blaming him for things. Humanizing a hero is never a good idea.
I do think it's interesting that Clark seems to have moved on past this Lana business fairly quickly. Though, I'm not exactly sure how long it's supposed to have been since last episode. Lois said that she had been gone a month, which hmm... I'm not sure how far apart the episodes between this and Bride were. I think it may have only been like a week, or a couple days. Whoa, that's weird. So perhaps it's been like 3 weeks since Lana left. That makes sense. Give Clark some breathing room to get over Lana and then move on to Lois. They have thankfully not made their relationship feel like a rebound, either. Well, I guess the fact that Clark decided not to show up to the Coffee date definitely makes it look that way, but even if he did I wouldn't feel that. The fact that they connected it to what "almost happened" makes you know that it's linking back to how they both felt even before this silly Lana business. Which, speaking of that line, I loved it! I was really doubting that they would bring up the almost kiss since Smallville just likes to ignore things. I loved how vague the line was and yet you know exactly what she's talking about. "Things got a little crazy before all hell broke loose, let's face it... or we could not face, and just forget that it ever almost happened." Oh man. I loved it. Clark's only response is, "I think it's a pretty complicated conversation, Lois." That's all he has to say?? Insane. Lois was acting surprisingly cool about the whole thing, as well. I think she had planned that offer a while back. It was a good plan. It would've been even better if Clark had decided to not be dumb and actually show up. But, I'll get over it... assuming that they'll still hook up in the future. *sighs*
Okay, since I already started going on about Clois, let's keep it going. :) This is the first time that Clark just decided to tell someone his secret out of nowhere. Yeah, you could argue that Clark only told Lois as a way to not let Linda Lake win, but Clark could've certainly written that article for himself. He instead decided that Lois of all people would be the right person. Like he said to Chloe after the fact, there was a moment right after telling Lois the truth that he thought everything was going to be okay and that he could have it all. Have what, Clark? Have a relationship and be happy?? What, not with Lana but with LOIS?? Oh! I love it all! I'm really not sure why Clark decided that Lois could never know the truth about him, but that somewhat saddens me. The only reason I can think of, and it's what Chloe pointed out, is that he's still hurting from Lana and can only think of how badly his last relationship he really wanted to work ended up. He doesn't want Lois to end up as human kryptonite like Lana. Not literally, but that's all I can think of. He realized how much he cares about her and doesn't want to see her get hurt? No, I don't think he can ever use that excuse anymore. Maybe. I'm just hoping he eventually decides to tell Lois again.
Speaking of telling Lois, my favorite moment of the entire episode was Clark telling Lois he loved her. Okay, not directly, but when he said, "It's because you are special." The reason he can't tell Lois his secret again is because she's the one special girl for him. I loved the happiness in his eyes when he told her that, too. You could tell he really meant it. It was absolutely hilarious when he finally tells Lois and she asks why she's the first one he's told. Then Clark tells her that Chloe and Lana have already known for years. He could've let the list just keep going. Man, at this point it's more a matter of counting who doesn't know. :P Man, if anything all of these little quirks of Smallville just make me love it more. It's so awesome. But, anyway. Back to Clois and everything awesome about it.
Back to the scene right before Clark goes back in time. Which, as a quick side note, Clark has exposed his stupidity yet again. "Lois is telling me something about Chloe... it obviously doesn't matter at all. I'll just leave now." Gahh! Clark! If you had just waited to hear it... but no, you decided to be stupid and just leave as soon as possible. Oh well. Okay, back to the scene. I love so many things about it. I already mentioned Clark proclaiming his feelings for Lois. I kept thinking that one of them was going to tell the other that they loved them. Whenever they would say, "I... understand." I kept thinking it was going to be, "I... love you." Especially when Lois preceded her comment with, "How can someone with x-ray vision be so blind?" It only made sense to me. But alas, no. Eh, I've already heard Lois say it (well, she said "yes" anyway) and Clark basically said it by saying that she was special. I got so worried when Lois backed down and walked away from Oliver back in Siren after finding out that he was the Green Arrow. At least we got that cleared up by Lois saying that, "but this... this was different." Yes, Lois!Different! Bahaha! That is so comforting to hear. With Clark, it's different. They are going to end up together and everything will be perfect. PERFECT I SAY!
Ahh! I almost forgot! Lois's first response to accepting that Clark had these powers was freakin' amazing. "Guess I should stop calling you Smallville." Exactly like her response back in Memoria in season 4 after seeing him catch the column things. So awesome. I guess that's just what her response would be no matter what. Not to mention when Clark was trying to explain his powers to Lois and explain some unexplainable things, he threw in the barn door flying off and almost hitting her. "Yeah right, what'd you do, sneeze?" "Actually..." Awesome! Man, I love it all so much. Lois's initial laugh to Clark telling her that he's the Red-Blue blur was hilarious. I don't think I'd react any differently. It's just ridiculous.
Alright, I think that's enough Clois rambling. This was a very welcome new episode after over a month break. Yay for episodes only a week apart! Let's just hope we'll finally see Jimmy next week! :)
