Smallville Ramblings

7.02 - Kara

Yet another Smallville episode. I didn't really have too many strong feelings for this episode. I didn't dislike it, but it wasn't amazing. Just an overall good episode. We get to meet Kara! Do we like her character? Do we like how they introduced her? I can't really decide.

I loved the beginning of the episode where we saw Lois get teary eyed over Clark leaving the farm. Awww... Clois. I have a place in my heart for Clois. Especially after watching the original Superman movies. Though, that was with Superman and Lois, not Clark and Lois. Superois. Or... something. Anyhow, I can't really decide if I like this Kara girl. Oh, and by the way, I admit that I'm an idiot. :) In the last rambling I was confusing Kara with Raya from last season. Oops, my bad. Though, they decided to explain that she only popped up now because her ship crashed in the lake and now that the dam was crushed, she's been released. It seems like she could have like, swam to the surface or something. Was she trapped in her space ship and was, for some reason, let out by the dam breaking? I'm not sure. It's okay. I can overlook it. The point is, Clark now has a real relative on Earth and a fellow Kryptonian for him to realize his destiny with. Now, that's something that I'm definitely happy about: she's his cousin. Now there's nothing that can get in the way of him being with Lana or Lois! (Or maybe even Chloe!) If they are cousins, then that just... wouldn't be right. I was afraid that the writers would try to hook them up. Yay!

I did love it when she asked Clark why he couldn't fly. "Well... I'm not sure." I'm not sure either, Clark. It might have something to do with that fear of heights or something. I'm not sure. Though, something that I am sure about is that flying in movies or TV shows usually looks lame. Seeing Kara fly looks kind of lame. I don't really want to see Clark lift off at will. Plus, wasn't there some promise or something that they made early in the show of "no flights, no tights?" I suppose we already broke it back in season 4 when Kal-El flew away from his mom and grabbed a crystal from Lex's plane. Whatever. I'm fine with just seeing him super-speed around.

Now, Lex. Lex... he was just let out of prison because someone else confessed. Didn't he already confess? It just doesn't seem like it'd be that easy to let him off. Though, I really don't know that much about the legal system. I suppose having a bunch of money and lawyers would probably help too. Lex really seems like he is trying to repent... or change his ways, or something. Is it just because Kara saved him from the water? I guess. He might be realizing the utterly evil things he did to Lana. It seems like he went on this same kind of "good trip" in some other season. Though... maybe I'm just thinking when he wasn't quite as evil. Or maybe of Lionel. Whatever. What I thought was kind of dumb was him asking Chloe if she knew anything about Lana still being alive. Well, Lex, think about it. If Lana wanted to plan a successful fake death, she wouldn't tell anyone that people would think she'd tell. If her best friend knew that she wasn't dead, then she wouldn't exactly be acting as sad as everyone would expect her to be. That would cause a problem. Chloe doesn't know for the same reason why Clark doesn't know. But... now I really want to know what Lana is going to do. They just kind of left it with Lex offering her a ride back to Smallville and her being able to live any life that she wanted. Oh, man. She has to come back to Smallville. If she doesn't, then it would be really lame to just see her living her life in China doing whatever that doesn't really connect to what's going back to Smallville.

Though, if she does come back to Smallville, I can't think of any reason why she couldn't be with Clark and for them to get married. That just doesn't seem... right. I mean, I would love it. It just seems so soon in the season for everything to work out for them. I don't know what they'd do with it. It's almost like we all expect for there to be something that keeps them from being together. Though, it's really hard for me to imagine the scene for when Lana walks into the barn and she says Clarks name, and he turns around and sees her. What the heck would happen? I assume it'd be like the scene from Hidden when Lana thought that Clark was dead, and then she sees him all tattered in his house and they run and embrace each other. I guess it would be something like that. Aww... what a great scene. Then we would just be all hunky dory in Clana land? I don't know. I guess we'll find out! I kept expecting a scene like that to come up at the end. Like when Clark was talking to Kara in his loft. I kept expecting for Lana to just walk up the stairs with this look of shock on her face because Clark had already hooked up with another girl when she'd been dead for like a day. That would seem more Smallville-esque. But, of course, that didn't happen. We'll get to see what happens next week. Maybe.

Okay, I'm sorry, I can't stop myself of talking about Lana some more. So when Lex was telling Lana to just shoot him, this intense hatred for him just boiled up inside of me. He knew that she could never do it. At least, that's what my thoughts were at the time. He knew that she could never kill him, and I thought that he would try to win her back by saying something like, "See, I knew you couldn't do it. You still love me. Deep down." Or something lame to that effect. But, when I think about it some more, it actually seems like he was trying to give himself some kind of retribution for what he did to her. I'm not sure he deserves to die (not quite for us to decide), but he definitely doesn't deserve Lana. Ugh. No, Clark deserves Lana. Clark deserves someone. He's got Chloe as a best friend, but it'd be nice for him to have an actualy girlfriend. Lana will do.

Though, speaking of Lana (again), what the heck is going on? A freaking clone? Why the heck did Lex made a clone of Lana? I know that he was making some super krypto soldiers, but that doesn't require any cloning of Lana. Did he want one of them to be Lana just for fun? Did he want a backup incase she died? I really don't get it at all. And how did Lana know about it? I know that she was doing research on what Lex was doing, but we never got any hint of that at all in last season. I guess that way we couldn't really guess how she was able to fake her death so well. That also explains why there was a burning Lana-shaped body in the car. I remember seeing that before and thinking that she must have put some kind of body in there that somehow had her DNA...or something. I guess a clone makes sense. And, of course, she was able to make a getaway on the mysterious white van. Though, she was being helped on the white van. So, that means that at least two people are in on this escape-Lana plan. One person was driving, and one person was helping her on (assuming one isn't Lionel). So, who are these people? Are we ever going to find out? Probably not. That's just how Smallville works. Just accept the fact that she was able to escape and get enough money to jump on a plane to China and find a place to stay.

Oh! Lois! I almost forgot, she's got a job at the Daily Planet! That's some sort of landmark. I guess the Inquisitor will just have to lose her as a reporter. Ha! Though, I feel terrible for Chloe. She didn't lose her spark! She's gotten so much ridicule for doing the work on the Krypto-freaks, it's no wonder she stopped doing articles on them! I mean, when she was freaking hired at the Daily Planet, her editor didn't like that the article that she did sounded so fairy-tale-ish. (Well, Vampires definitely don't sound very real.) She was a lot more confident about it than Lois and had more research to back it up. (Well, I'm not quite sure about that.) Chloe wanted the job more than Lois did. Where the heck did this guy come from, anyway? We've never seen him before. What a jerk. There's a reason why he doesn't have any friends. He's freaking ruthless. (Freaking seems to be a favorite word for this rambling.) I don't know where that's going to go. I don't think that Chloe will necessarily blame Lois, but I know that Lois won't refuse the job. She has this innate desire to be a reporter. I mean, she is Lois Lane. She's got to want to be a reporter, and she's got to get a job at the Daily Planet sometime. And this was that time. It's just too bad that it makes us all feel bad for Chloe. Aww... Chloe. Just go to Clark and get a nice hug. I'm sure that will solve all of your problems. :)

Alright! Next episode: Lana's whereabouts and decisions, Kara's adventures, Lois and Chloe's rivalry, and something else exciting, I'm sure. We might even see Martha or Jimmy sometime. On to next Thursday!
