10.1 - Lazarus
*KA-BOOM!* That was my brain. EXPLODING. This premeire answered very few questions and asked a lot more. Clark must have gone to a different dimension or something. For some reason his "Adventures of Tom Sawyer" book decided to suck him and his suit up to the land of stupidity. The land where Lois leaves Clark and his father appears and disappears at will. The land where Chloe decides to give herself for Ollie (I think). The land where Clark has zero confidence and where Jor-El thinks Clark will bring on destruction (what a new idea!). Arg. This episode left me quite anxious.
So, did Clark really fly? That was in normal land, so it gives me some hope. He seemed to think that he may have flown for a moment there. It sure looked like he must have. It looked like a jump to begin with but he must have had some of his own force to continue bringing the Daily Planet world back up to the top of the building. That is good news. Clark needs to learn how to fly.
I'm SO glad that they are not trying to deny Lois knowing Clark's secret. Right from the beginning we know that Lois will now know Clark's secret for the rest of the season (excluding any sort of memory change or spell that may occur). YAY! YAY! Now, for some reason Clark is playing stupid and acting like Lois doesn't know. Didn't he think that Lois was going to know after he made out with her? It's not the first time they've made out... I think if Lois can tell if it's you from your hand on her shoulder she can tell when you're making out. Though, he was willing to talk in the barn at later o' clock. I don't know how either of them decided to define what time "later" was, but I suppose something got worked out. Then this weirdo Lex decided to ruin the evening. Let's ramble about Lex a bit.
Now, I didn't want any spoilers, so I purposely didn't look at the opening credits. They often put in new scenes from the season that I don't want to see yet and show which characters are now "important." Like, when Davis was suddenly in the credits, or Zod. Anyhow, so I don't know if they decided to put Michael Rosenbaum in the credits again to play Lex, but I SURE HOPE THEY DID. I was worried that this weirdo old Lex was going to replace Michael Rosenbaum as Lex for the season, but luckily he died by the end of the episode. PHEW. I love it when people I hate die. Then Clark gets all stupid and prideful and declares to Jor-El that he "defeated Lex." Clark, Lex told you before he died that he was already dying. I don't think it counts as defeat when they were already dying before you started killing them. Anyhow, the Lex in the field with Clark at the beginning sort of looked like Michael, didn't it? I'll just tell myself it did. If anyone but Michael Rosenbaum plays Lex on Smallville it should just explode and die. Kind of like my brain did.
Jor-El told Clark that he wasn't the one that brought him back from the dead. So, I suppose we're supposed to assume that it was Lex that did it. They both disappeared into white light at the same time. Or perhaps whoever brought back Lex also brought back Clark, or vice versa. Interesting. It didn't seem like Clark needed help being brought back, though. Lois took out the blue kryptonite dagger and he was able to heal himself. I guess he would've died before she took out the dagger? No, that doesn't make any sense. When he's Kryptonian without any sort of Kryptonite around, he seems to be immortal. Well, I don't know. Anyway, it seems like Lex is somehow responsible for this alternate dimension. It just seems a bit fishy that the weirdo old Lex accused Clark of being so selfish, and then right after Clark is sucked into stupid land, Jor-El accused Clark of the same thing. It seemed so unnatural and weird, too. For a moment I thought that maybe Zod had somehow taken over the fortress to ruin Clark. But, I don't think that's it. Jor-El is just extra stupid in this dimension.
CLARK'S DAD! As wonderful as it was to see Clark finally talk to his dad again, it confused the heck out of me. As far as I could tell, everything else in this universe seemed to make since in normal Smallville land. (As much sense as Smallville usually makes, anyway.) But, why on earth would Clark's dad just suddenly appear, and then disappear? It would've made sense if in this world Clark's dad hadn't died because of some choice that Clark made or something, so Clark's dad was just alive. But then when he was talking about how it was really his fault that he died because he got so angry, and then suddenly disappeared, it was quite obvious that he had still died but just suddenly appeared as some sort of ghost for some crazy reason. WHAT THE HECK? No sense. It made absolutely no sense. Though, I do hope that we see him again. If he could appear in this episode, why not randomly appear later? THAT makes sense. Kind of.
Why was Lois standing alone in the middle of a sand desert? I guess that was supposed to be Africa? Why she felt like standing in the most desolute, boring part of Africa I have no idea. Why would she suddenly want to leave? She gets abducted by Lex and hung on a cross, and then Clark saves her so she leaves for Africa? I don't know, Jephthah, why did Jonathan suddenly come back from the grave and then disappear? I DON'T KNOW. NOTHING MAKES SENSE IN THIS STUPID LAND. I really hope this stupidness doesn't last for too many episodes because I really need real storyline movement to feel satisfied. All of this time spent in stupid land feels like a waste to me. I'm just waiting for Clark to be sent back somehow so something real can happen. PLEASE?
So who is the crazy dark mist dude at the end? I guess we're supposed to assume that he is this "greatest evil" that will cause all sorts of havoc this season? Why can't we have some episodes where nothing evil is threatening the world at the beginning of a season? Zod JUST left! Why did this evil decide to come to Smallville land right now? It must have something to do with Clark being "brought back to life." It must. Or something else must have triggered it. I don't know why it would just happen to make everything on Smallville stupid. (Stupid is my favorite word of this rambling, apparently.) This dark dude's helmet reminded me of Magneto. Maybe it IS Magneto! How much fun would it be to mix Marvel and DC? *cough* Right, of course not. I don't know who it is and I can't wait for us to find out so Clark can promptly get rid of it. I'm already annoyed by it.
Why in the world is the Superman suit in the fortress? Is this alternate dimension thing some stupid trial that Jor-El set up for Clark? When Clark looked at it with intentions of putting it on Jor-El decided to suck him up to an alternate dimension and lock up the suit until Clark was ready to wear it? That sounds just stupid. I want REAL Smallville land! Give it to me now! I'm not sure how I feel about having the actual Superman suit on Smallville. I kind of like just avoiding that it exists.
When Clark decided to crush his tombstone in the "between life" did that cause something? It seemed as though crushing it made Jor-El's voice stop. I don't know why that makes any sense, but since when does that mean anything on Smallville?
What's going to happen to that blue dagger? Lois just threw it aside so Clark could promptly heal himself. I'm sure someone will find it and then cause havoc in Clark's life in some future episode. Hey, maybe Magneto Shadow man will find it! Then he'll kill Clark only for Clark to come back to real Smallville land! One can hope. Or Smallville will pull a Smallville and just ignore that the dagger existed. I could very well see that happening as well.
I must admit, Clark's hair looks amazing when it's all superspeed blown. It reminds me of Peter Pan's hair from his constant flying. Seriously, Lois is lucky. Speaking Lois and Clark, the scene where Lois saw Clark at the Daily Planet and decided to "drop" her pen was so cute! "Where are you pen?" It made me laugh. Out loud. I did think it was sort of silly for Clark to pretend like he didn't have powers or didn't know what she was talking about. It was almost like he was testing her to see what she had concluded about him. How could he think she still didn't know after making out with her? Anyway, it was cute to see Lois get a little confirmation as Clark supersped to grab what he wanted. Aww... :)
So, why is Tess taking care of little Lex? That seems a little odd. I kind of hope that ends soon because it seems like it could only lead to bad things. Or perhaps good. The little Lex seems to represent the "good" side to Lex. So, perhaps I won't give up on that. At least Tess isn't dead! YAY! I hope we get some good Tess and Lex screen time together. It just seems like it'd be so interesting to see them interact with each other. Bring it on!
Okay, I think this rambling is long enough. Let's move on with the final season of Smallville!
