Smallville Ramblings

8.11 - Legion

The first episode after a two month break. I really liked it! I was disappointed there was no Lois to be found (though she was inevitably mentioned a couple times), but I should've expected that since she said she was going with Jimmy to Star City. I was just hoping they go and see her at Star City or something. Lana was still there... the entire episode, and on top of that we got some time continuum explosions. People from the 31st century! Here we go.

I thought it was rather interesting to have these aliens from the future come and help Clark out. They knew history and what he was known for. I kind of saw them as us. Or rather, as people who just know the Superman storyline and know what to expect of Clark and everyone else. They hadn't heard of a Chloe Sullivan. We certainly haven't heard of a Chloe Sullivan in the Superman mythology (except apparently she's now in the comics or something). Though, because Garth mentioned Clark having a cape... is that now going to influence Clark getting a cape later? Would he have still gotten a cape in the future if Garth hadn't said anything? Would Clark fulfill his destiny of helping other worlds and cultures if Rokk told him that he was going to? Perhaps. That one is more of a stretch. Then there's the whole thing with them helping Clark to defeat Brainiac hopefully for the LAST TIME. I'm so sick of Brainiac always coming back and ruining everything all the time. Goodness gracious. So, if they helped Clark defeat him... how did he really defeat him in their time zone if they helped him in the past? It makes no sense. How would Clark have even known that Brainiac was back and killed him if they didn't tell him he wasn't destroyed? Well, I guess there's an answer for that as well. Once Brainiac went to the Daily Planet to ruin everybody's lives, he probably would've figured it out by then. Or at least Lana would've helped him out. I guess he would've grabbed that shield and killed him then. Which... why was that in the barn in a box? I thought Mr. Martian Oreo Man had it? I don't know. It's destroyed now.

I thought that Allison Mack did a fantastic job playing Brainiac. You could really see the little things that reflect how Brainiac acts. She wasn't Chloe; she was Brainiac. Way to go, Allison! And way to Chloe for getting your memory back!! YAY! I was so happy to see them do that for her. I absolutely couldn't stand Clark talking to her and her having no idea about anything. I had no idea what she remembered. I didn't know who she was anymore! It made me sad to see Clark not be excited that Chloe now knows his secret again. Though, that raises yet another question. What exactly does Chloe remember in the past week or so when she didn't know Clark's secret? Does she remember showing him a meteor rock and Clark giving her his flower she gave him freshman year? So much of this whole thing just makes no sense to me. I guess we're supposed to just assume that everything worked out nicely. At least she now knows Clark's secret and Clark has someone to talk about these things. Well... besides Lana. Ugh! Lana! So many mixed feelings about Lana. Let's start a new paragraph about that.

I wasn't too sure if Lana would in fact be back next episode, but I guess it makes sense that she would really want to help to find Chloe. I was happy to see her back, but her being back and just working with Clark on finding Chloe with no Lois just makes me really confused about everything ever. I really didn't like that smile that Clark kept giving her throughout the episode. He is again realizing how much he loves her again. NOO! Right when he's about to go for it with Lois, Lana has to come back and ruin everything! I never thought I would be so disappointed to see their relationship going so well. They can actually talk to each other, and Lana isn't being dumb and evil like she was before. Well, apparently she's hiding something from Clark, which we knew from that text last episode, but last episode I just assumed it was something underhand and evil. Somewhat. Like she was working with Lex and letting out her bad trying to be good side. But, the fact that Imra wasn't worried about what Lana was planning makes me think that she was really doing something good for Clark and the world. She seems to be trying really hard to be like Clark. I guess Lana had a bigger reason for leaving Clark than to let him fulfill his destiny. I think that was definitely still a reason, but she had something else planned. What is she doing? She said she was a different person... how? Why? When is she going to leave again? But man, once she leaves again it's just going to put Clark right where he was at the beginning of the season again. Well, not quite. I think he really does love Lois... maybe he'll fall back on her or Lois will see his hurt and then when she goes to comfort him, like she did before, the hug will suddenly be a make-out session! YEAH! Maybe I'll look forward to when Lana leaves Clark so that he can make out with Lois. Oh man, that's such a good plan. Then there's the fact that the last time that Lois kissed Clark, she remembered the kiss as the kiss from Green Arrow. It sure seems like she would remember again if they kissed. Would that then lead to Clark telling her his secret? Oh man, so much excitement.

Okay, back to the Lana thing. What is she not telling Clark and what is she planning to do next? Imra realized that she was hiding something after saying what... "You've sacrificed so much for Clark." So Imra saying that Lana had sacrificed so much for Clark made Lana think about what she hadn't told him and what she was planning to do next. Obivously mentioning Clark would make her think of what she hadn't told him... but that really makes me think that she's doing something as a big sacrifice for Clark. Doing something that she sees is helping Clark, which I assume it probably is. Imra wasn't worried about what she was doing, and Lana didn't see too worried about Imra knowing. She's doing something... and I don't think it's evil. I think it's something that's really helping Clark out or stopping Lex (without being cruel and brutal like she did with Lionel). Hmm... I'm thinking we'll find out next episode or so what she's planning. I really don't know how long she'll be back, though. If she is back next episode, is she going to go back to living with Clark? UGH! Yet another thing that ruins everything! Clark is bound to be back working at the Daily Planet with Lois next episode, and thus we'll see Lois all depressed about Clark being back with Lana... and living with her. Oh man, it's all so terrible. Why can't Clark and Lois just be together? Why can't people just have a significant other and be happy? That's all I want. I would've even been happy at the end of last season if Clark and Lana got married, Chloe said yes to marrying Jimmy, and Lois was back with Oliver. That would've been nice. I wouldn't have been setup to love Clois so much and everyone would be happy. It's not that much to ask for. This is a story people are making up... why can't they just write it happy? Because people like me get into it so much. That's why. It's fun to watch this stuff and get into it.

More on Lana. So apparently she's really going to do a lot to help Clark realize who he is (which we saw a lot of in this episode), and have a huge destiny on her own. What is she going to do? At least we now know that she isn't going to be a bad person and that Lex didn't really ruin her life. In fact, it's probably what pushed her to become the person she is now. Good for her. Taking the high road. That is, after Clark influenced her to. Aww, and now she's helping him. "The Clark I know would never doubt himself." "Lana..." "He would never waver. He would insist that he could save Chloe's live and the rest of the world." Then that's what persuaded Clark to not give up and then save Chloe's life. Lana saved Chloe's life! Good thing... without Chloe this show would be so sad! Aww... Chloe. Though, I'm pretty sure I've said that about so many characters that have left. Jonathan, Martha, Lex, Lana... it still holds with Chloe. :) I'm glad she's okay. I forgot where I was going with that thought. Something about Lana. I guess she really encourages Clark to become who he is. But he obviously still ends up with Lois. They knew Lois' name... that's what we know her for. (Which makes me wonder if that made Clark wonder if that's who he ends up with...) It's just a matter of when it happens and if Smallville chooses to run with that for a long time or just in the season finale. I'm not sure what to expect... I'm excited to find out, though. Ahh! Smallville! Why must you take over my thoughts and life?!

Oh... and then there's Davis. I guess he's really transformed into this Doomsday guy and is going to kill everyone. How on earth is Clark going to stop him? I guess he'll get Lana and Chloe's help. (Yay for Chloe's help!) Maybe somehow that'll reveal Clark's powers to Lois when he saves her life from Davis. Yes, I like that plan as well. And then they make out in front of Lana and Lana can know that she never has a chance with Clark ever again and Lois feels good about Clark's feelings towards her and Lana. Man, I love these plans of mine. So, will the fortress ever revive itself? I hope so. It always seems to somehow. I'm not sure how this time... Smallville will come up with something. Yay for Smallville!

Okay, I think this'll do for this episode. Yay for another episode this Thursday! A week to wait is much easier than two months. :)
