Smallville Ramblings

10.14 - Masquerade

Clark has decided to make Clark Kent his disguise. Hm. It surely was time for him to do something about keeping his identity safe since people were obviously getting suspicious, and I hate to admit it, but Clark actually made a good point. Why should he hide who he is when he's saving people? That's who he really is. It actually seems to be a better cover to make your actual identity the disguise so people won't even think you're the Blur. Though, he still hasn't actually shown his face to the world yet, so I'm still a little reserved about that. People who knew him before would of course recognize him and remember how he would save so many people back in Smallville. Not to mention him marrying Lois who is so pro-hero, specifically for the Blur. It doesn't seem like it'd be that hard to connect the dots. Though, if they went to see Clark now and saw him as this nerdy reporter, it might just make them second guess themselves. Hm... good one, Smallville. I applaud you.

We got to see what this darkness is up to--killing people. That's rather terrible. It was also rather inconvenient that the people that Oliver and Chloe decided to pretend to be at dinner were next on the killing list. ALSO inconvenient that Oliver HAS THE DARKNESS! What the heck? How is he not acting evil at all? He seemed to be pretty normal at the end of the episode. Is it possible to suck this darkness out of people? Clark surely won't send all of the evilness to the Phantom Zone, and surely not Oliver. Yikes... I don't like that at all. Right when Chloe and Oliver are together again and happy Oliver gets stupid and evil. ARG. And Chloe even admitted they were boyfriend and girlfriend! I really hope Oliver just decided to take a big invisible ink stamp of the omega symbol on his forehead just to make all of us worry. It's possible.

It was funny when Lois was trying to get Clark to wear a hood and glasses. He really did look ridiculous, but Lois was really trying to protect him. Oh man... the end of that scene was hilarious. "Yeah, I really should get to work." "Oh, no. You do not get to woosh your way out of this one. Why don't I just save you the trouble and just superspeed off all on my own, okay? WHOOSH!" Hilarious! Finally someone fights back for Clark superspeeding away. Of course it would be Lois. Teach him some manners, Lois! He needs them!

I'm sure some Chlark fans out there got a little excited to see Clark ask Chloe for just one kiss when she was being tempted. Chloe wanted it, but she knew that something must be wrong with Clark. We all know he wouldn't do that now that he has Lois and is so happy. Chloe was one smart cookie for figuring out that she was being tempted with the 7 deadly sins. Clever, quite clever. I'm glad she didn't break, though we knew that she wouldn't. We all love Chloe and have so much faith in her! She would never betray Clark and the gang! No matter how many times Smallville tries to convince us that she has--she never will!

Lois has given Clark confidence and goodness! Yay! "When he last laid eyes upon you, you wore your sin openly. You're much more self-assured now, more love in your heart than when you faced Godfrey, stronger than when you faced Bernie as well. Sadly incorruptible." Clark can't be overtaken by the darkness anymore! At least, that's what it sounds like. That's a relief. Too bad Oliver had to RUIN EVERYTHING by going out when he was all angry and stupid. We'll see...

We discover a new power of Clark's that he has apparently known about before: microvision! It was pretty funny when Lois asked him about how he could see the ink. "Microvision." "Microvision?" "It's my power, I can call it whatever I want." That's right you can, Clark! I love how he said it with such a straight face, too. Another great quote was right at the beginning when Lois was telling Clark about how the whole world is watching him: "...and I won't even bother with the Chinese because I would just sound racist." Then when Clark basically gave his secret away to Bert and he knew he would just hear it from Lois, and she just said, "Not me. Nope. I'm a positive, supportive, independent woman and I just want to know what happened at the morgue." Perfect response. He obviously knew what she was going to say and was basically admitting she was right, so she just let him bask in her rightness. Oh Lois. Have I ever mentioned how I love you and your awesome personality?

It was kind of cute when Oliver and Chloe were beating up those guys and then ran into each other and professed their love for each other. Aww. It reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean when Elizabeth and Will decided to get married in the middle of a battle. Then Chloe tells him that she doesn't know what to call their relationship? Oliver certainly had good points. They tell each other "I love you," they have sex, they spend all their time together... that nearly sounds like a marriage. They pretended to be a married couple, after all. But, Chloe got a clue by the end of the episode and admitted they were dating. Aww, good for them. Too bad Oliver is omega-fied.

I think it's so funny that Lois and Clark talk so openly about Clark's identity, the Justice League, Krypton, etc. at the Daily Planet while there's random people walking around them. Does nobody else ever hear their crazy talk? If anyone just stood in that room and listened to them talk for any amount of time, they would know Clark's secret. But, whatever. I guess other people just don't pay attention or brush aside whatever weirdness they do hear. Silly Smallville.

So apparently Lionel Luthor is still in charge of Luthorcorp (I must admit, it makes sense that a Luthor, the founding Luthor, would have his own company back...), and Lex is...? Lex is sulking in Clark's barn or with Tess or... I don't know. He's just in Smallville time suspension until they decide to continue his story again. Probably next episode. Maybe he'll be dead by then and replaced with the real Lex Luthor. One can hope.

As sad as it sounds to hear Chloe talk about things defining her, it also sounds a little silly. Of course other things define who you are. What else would? You being a great reporter is part of who you are, Chloe. You're curious, diligent, and excellent with computers. If you didn't use computers or be a part of the Justice League, you wouldn't develop or discover that about yourself. How are you supposed to define yourself if you don't do anything or be a part of anything? It almost sounded profound, Chloe. Almost.

Enough of this rambling, I say! Enough! On to the next episode!
