6.20 - Noir
Let me start off by saying that overall I was disappointed with this episode. It started out so promising with Lana being shot and unconscious, and then we spend the majority of the time in a Jimmy alternate-universe dream. All with characters that we all know, but with stuff that's not really happening. None of this is really happening, Jephthah. Shh! Not true! *runs aways*
*runs back* There were some good moments, though. It was somewhat interesting to see everything that is happening from Jimmy's point of view, and how he interprets everything. Now, Lex and Lois... I'm not sure where he got that. That's not a pair that I ever thought of. *shivers* That was odd. And since they were going with the whole melodramatic 50's style, it made it so unbelievable. I did think it was funny when Jimmy popped out and snapped a picture right in front of them and just bolted. Nowadays, he could just take a picture digitally without them even knowing. Bwhahaha... that's funny. I also thought it was funny that Jimmy was this hot-shot reporter. Not a photographer -- a reporter. Does Jimmy really want to be a reporter? Is he jealous of Chloe? We never see that in the Superman movies, or anything. Aww... poor Jimmy.
This episode did make me wonder how much of this is a foreshadow of what's going to happen. Is Lana going to die in the season finale? Is Clark going to kill her when she is doing something that's "all for him?" I've talked of Lana's death before. I really wouldn't be that surprised at this point. The writers have thrown so many curve balls this season. Lana dying would be a change-up or something... what am I talking about? Foreshadow. Okay. So, Lex and Lois are going to hook up, Lana is working with Lionel while having an affair with Clark and then gets shot... maybe not all of that will happen. There also seemed to be something between Lana and Jimmy. *shivers* Weird!! I seriously thought that I would see Lana and Jimmy kiss when Jimmy came to the mansion after snapping that photo of Lex and Lois. I saw Lana glance down at Jimmy's lips at least twice while she was talking to him. Oh man, what a strange twisted universe. This reminds me of Labyrinth. Everything is all screwed up. Anyhow... I'm going on quite a bit about that. Whatever.
It was cute to see Jimmy attempt to have an accent throughout the episode. It was like every fourth word he said had an accent on it. "I'm not going to let you get a-wway with this Luthor." (Something like that.) I don't know if that was necessarily intentional or not, but it was funny to listen/watch anyhow. None of the other characters seemed to really try. Well, no. There were moments when it seemed like Chloe was trying, too. Like when she first said, "I tell ya" in the middle of her sentence to Jimmy at first, that felt very unnatural. Or umm... sounded very unnatural. But when I think about it, I'm not sure how she could have said it differently that would have made it sound more natural to me. Maybe it's just the fact that it's Chloe talking and I know that it's really Chloe, not a 50's Chloe. Oh! Clark! Teehee... that was cute to see Clark as the dorky Clark Kent we know and love from the Superman movies. I think that Tom Welling actually did a pretty good job of acting dorky and uncomfortable. Aww... Clark trying to act dorky. He sure did clean up his act later. He reminded me a bit of how he is when he's on red kryptonite. So confident and sure of himself.
This episode reminded me a lot of Suspect back in season 2, except at least in that episode it all happened in the real Smallville land and we got a conclusion of who actually did it. Lana did say that she was working with Lionel to get inside information on Lex, but was it Lionel himself that shot Lana? That doesn't seem likely. Why would the gun still be there? I considered Lana shooting herself. She's not exactly in the most pleasant of situations right now, anyhow. I really want to know what Lionel's up to. I can't really figure him out. Sometimes he is utterly evil and twisted with no regard to human feelings at all, and others where he actually has a hint of caring in him. What's going on? Did he really make Lana go through with the wedding to get an inside scoop on Lex and "protect" Clark? Protect Clark from himself, Lionel? Or would Clark get involved with some experiment of Lex's somehow? I'm not sure. It doesn't really make sense to me. They've got to fill in these gaps the next two weeks. But, I know that for the season finale they are only going to leave about 4 storyline's hanging with me having no idea what's going to happen. Ahh! It's so close! What's going to happen?
What else is there to talk about? Nothing really happened this week. Lana got shot and is going to be just fine next week. Oh, she might have a sling. That's something else. Didn't Lionel have a bunch of rocks fall on him last week? Wasn't his face filled with cuts and bruises from that? Funny how he looks completely healed so soon after. It's also interesting how at the beginning of the episode Lana was shot in her left shoulder, but later is seen with a sling to her right arm. Oh, Smallville, you're so funny.
I think I'm done rambling about this episode. Not much to add. It was nice to see Lana and Clark together in Jimmy's mind, and it was nice to see Clark flip out over Lana being shot. "Okay, first of all, ow..." That was a funny moment. *thumbs up to Chloe* "You know how much she means to me!" Aww, Clarky my boy, just wait. I'm sure by the season finale she'll either be dead and no longer an issue, or she'll find a way to leave Lex and be with you. :) On to next week's episode!
