Smallville Ramblings

7.10 - Persona

This episode left me feeling very empty. So many things are just screwed up right now! I thought it'd be a good thing for the real Clark to finally come back, but no. Now Clark and Lana's relationship is all awkward and... not as good. At least Chloe really knows Clark and was happy to see the real Clark back. Lex is just... he's got some issues. Some serious issues. He makes his own brother and then kills him and then decides to walk into the rain and yell in agnony at his issues. Interesting indeed.

So, we get to see Milton Fine again. I guess we all expected that from Bizarro Clark saying that it was the "Brain InterActive Construct" last episode. I'm not exactly sure how some of him was left behind back in season 5, but I'll go with it. Maybe he can impersonate Jonathan again, then we could see the good ol' John Schneider again. Highly unlikely, but it would be awesome if it happened. I want Jonathan back... actually I want Martha back too. Clark needs his parents. Anyway, I'm not sure where they are going to go with this Brainiac coming back plot. Just another villain for the Justice League to come back and destroy? I don't know, but I'm interested to find out.

I'm glad that at least Chloe still knows Clark well enough to know when he's been replaced by a phantom. Obviously Lana is a bit oblivious. Though, I guess she's only now getting to know who the real Clark Kent is, so it can get confusing. Though, she was acting pretty rude to Chloe when she was trying to tell Lana that something was wrong with Clark. Lana is obviously jealous of Chloe and her relationship with Clark and the fact that she's been in "his inner circle" for so much longer than she has. She immediately assumed that Chloe was just trying to "hold on" to Clark. Umm... no. Listen to her, Lana. She knows what she's talking about. And, what do you know? She did. She was right. Pay attention, Lana.

Though, it was absolutely hilarious when the fake Clark came and asked for help from Chloe and then she started going on about how many Kryptonians there seemed to be on Earth, and Bizarro was behind her making faces and making fun of Chloe! It was basically awesome. Then Chloe turned around he just smiled half-heartedly like nothing had happened. Oh, Bizarro. You're so funny. It's a good thing that Chloe took the shield and saved it for Clark. I loved it when she showed it to the real Clark and Clark just looked at her and said, "You saved me again, Chloe." You know, I think from that scene I had a dream that Clark did the same kind of look, but instead said, "I love you, Chloe." Gah! I'm losing my Clananess! Just freakin' hook up with Chloe, Clark! I've thought this since season 5 when Chloe found out your secret... it'd be perfect. You guys know each other so well and you can tell her anything. But, no. You're blinded by Lana's radiance. *rolls eyes* Dumb Clark.

I'm glad to see Grant/Julian stand up for himself and finally talk back to Lex. He really slammed him. "Don't you walk away from me." "Aren't you used to it by now? How many times have you been married now?" (Probably paraphrased) I thought that was great. Lex has been married a lot. Three times, I believe. Desiree, Helen, and Lana. One was a freak, another tried to kill Lex, and then there's Lana. Lex just kind of ruined any chance of that relationship working out. Way to go. But, Julian did get himself killed by doing that. It's really sad when I think about it. Julian was just grown in a test tube with memories implanted in him and then lived for like what... 6 months or so? Ridiculous. Lex and his god-complex. "I gave you everything!" Exactly Lex. You should let people live their own lives and be born into a family and raised the old fashioned way. Not in a test tube with memories implanted into them. Silly.

This idea of blue kryptonite killing Bizarro seemed ridiculous at first... but it actually makes perfect sense. It's like a limit approaching a number, or rather approaching infinity. Since blue kryptonite essentially makes Clark equal to zero, when Bizarro tries to be the opposite of zero, infinity, that obviously can't work. He can't have infinity power. So, he explodes. It's a good solution. At least this time we know he's gone for good. Clark finally got rid of all the phantoms. It's about time, Clark. I'm sick of seeing the fake Clark anyway. All he's done is ruin Clark's life, and mess up Lana's mind even more. Now she's got this false impression of who Clark really is. She has this expectation that just isn't Clark. But, honestly, he was acting really weird. He talked differently. Clark has always talked the same way, Lana. Why didn't you catch on? I guess because Bizarro was saying all of the right stuff that you wanted to hear.

Oh, man it made me sad to see Lana tell Bizarro that she wanted to be with him. It just broke Clark's heart, again. I've gotta say, that scene eerily reminded me of a scene in Trespass. When the crazed guard was trying to tell Lana that Lex had ruined her and that he could make it all better. Lana just responded with, "You're right. I didn't know what I was getting myself in to, and now I can't get out." When she first said that, I couldn't tell if she was telling the truth or not. Now we know that she must have been at least to some extent because she ended up leaving Lex. This was the same thing. She told the "bad guy" what they wanted to hear so she could destroy/escape them, but we don't know if there was some truth in it or not. But, every time something like this happens in Smallville, my worst fear is usually confirmed. Like when we got hints of Lex and Lana getting together, I refused to believe that the writer's would actually do that to me. Well... not only did they hook the two of them up, they got married. This is not looking good for Clark and Lana. They're probably going to split up by the end of the season. Maybe Lana will die for real this time.

The last scene was also very interesting. It reminded me a lot of the scene in Nemesis when Lana saw Clark alive and well and touched his arm gently, and he grabbed her arm... aww! I love that scene so much! So, in this episode she did the same kind of thing. She even touched the same arm in the same spot. Though, this time Clark didn't grab her hand back and they didn't get close and personal. In fact, they just got in bed looking very uncomfortable together. I don't quite understand what was going on, anyway. Why did Clark look so troubled about just crawling in bed and going to sleep? Whatever. It looks like Lana just had to touch him to convince him to just go to sleep.

I'm disappointed they didn't explain the fortress-trapping any more, or how Bizarro escaped. "I managed to escape." Yeah... that was a good explanation. *rolls eyes* And we're just supposed to assume that Jor-El just froze Clark in there as a punishment... indefinitely? I don't know when he was planning on releasing him from the fortress. It's kind of a dumb punishment. Speaking of punishments (kind of), where the heck is Kara? She's in the freakin' opening credits, we need an explanation. That, and Jimmy. Where's Jimmy? He's also in the opening credits. Both of them are in need of some screen time. I want to see them.

Well, overall I hope that Clark is finally on good terms with Lana again, or he ditches her and hooks up with Chloe. I'm also hoping we get to see Kara and Jimmy, and some more excitement. Maybe Lex will gain some more of his sanity by next episode. Nah, that's unlikely. He'll probably have completely lost it by the end of the season. I'm looking forward to that. On to next episode!
