9.13 - Persuasion
I figured this episode was promising with a title like "Persuasion." My favorite part by far: seeing Lois dancing in Martha's wedding dress. BAHAHA! I loved it! I guess we're supposed to assume that Lois somehow got her job back at the Daily Planet? I would think being infected by meteor dust would be a pretty good excuse, and I doubt they would really want her to leave. She's a pretty valuable reporter, after all. I must admit, though, it was pretty terrifying to see Clark hellbent on killing Tess. You just know that he's capable of killing pretty much whatever he wants. It was like he was on Red Kryponite, except worse. Speaking of Red K, we haven't seen that in a while. I hope we see it soon. Just imagine what he would do with Lois! Yikes! Maybe she'd finally learn his secret!
It was cute to see them together on Valentines Day. I did find it interesting that Clark said that "they don't use that word" in their relationship. They don't like to say that they are boyfriend/girlfriend? I guess it does sound a little weird. It just seems like it doesn't adequately describe their relationship. They've known each other for so long. It's probably the fact that they are both terrified of this relationship not working out, and so they don't like the sound of that kind of commitment. Speaking of commitment, I about freaked out when Lois was about to leave Clark! It looks like he was too. I get the feeling that he was ready to do anything to keep her in his life. He saw what happened when she left him--he made all the wrong choices. It was because of her that he's back being Clark Kent, after all. I'm thinking because he knew that they were basically meant for each other and that it was supposed to work out (from what Dr. Fate said in Absolute Justice), he was committed to making the relationship work. Interesting. If you know that a relationship will work out in the end, then you'll work harder to keep it going. It's as if knowing that it's "meant to be" is what makes it work. As unfair as arranged weddings sound, that's probably how they end up working out pretty well. They know they don't have much of a choice, so they work harder. This might be the key to Clark and Lois' relationship working!
What was so great was after he basically said he would marry Lois, suddenly things seemed worse than before. It was fun seeing Lois and Clark both call Martha. Speaking of Martha, it would be fun to see her back. How much does she know about Clark's life now? Did she know about Doomsday? Jimmy dying? Chloe getting married? Clark becoming the Red/Blue Blur and then the Blur? Him burning his symbol all around Metropolis? She obviously knows about Lois and Clark dating. This actually reminds me a bit of my relationship with my now husband. A week after officially dating each other it was April Fool's Day, and we thought it would be fun to change our relationship status on facebook to engaged. It was sort of like crying wolf, and that's definitely what it will be like with Lois and Clark! They announced that they were engaged, and now people who are paying attention to their relationship will now start thinking about the real possibility of them getting married. And so are Lois and Clark! It seems as though they are both somewhat excited and in favor of the idea of their marriage, but they are too terrified from past experience to actually go through with it. And I suppose the fact that they haven't been dating for too long yet. But they've been flirting since season 4! That's like 5 years of dating as far as I'm concerned! Oh, and I must mention the music when Lois first mentioned her and Clark being engaged. Suddenly the music of Jaws came on! "Nooooo!! Not marriage! She said the 'e' word!" Oh, Clark and composer. You are both so funny.
Other things happened in this episode, I'm sure. Oh right, Chloe was committed to protecting Clark. Which, strangely enough, wasn't too different from her normal self. That's what she's committed to doing anyway, but now that was really all that she focused on. It worked out pretty nicely that she could bring that krytonite right before Clark killed Tess. That surely is a way of protecting Clark. Though, she really was rough on Lois. "I've seen Clark in love before and it always holds him back." Oh, but Chloe! You didn't hear Dr. Fate! Apparently Lois is finally the only girl that won't hold him back, unlike Mrs. Creepy Lana! And it's proven to be true, so far. Things are just so different with Lois and Clark. *sighs blissfully* So wonderfully different... Anyway, back to Chloe being rough on Lois. "Once Clark knows you, the real you, underneath all of this Lois armor, he's gonna see that you're just a scared little kid who runs away the second anything goes wrong. If you really love him, the best thing you can do for Clark is leave him." Ouch, Chloe! Goodness! Though, yet again, we heard the "L" word. Right when Chloe said "love" Lois kind of jumped and looked up at Chloe. Still, we have yet to hear them profess that they love each other. I'm still waiting. Though, it's quite obvious that she does since she did end up deciding that she should leave him because she "really loved him." It's so interesting (and so freakin' refreshing!) that when these scenes that we've seen all too often with Clark and Lana start happening with him and Lois, it works out! It really does! There is less stupidity on both of their parts and they actually work things out! Clark didn't just stand there all hurt and alone when Lois started walking out (like he's done with Lana so many times), he FOUGHT for Lois. He went back and did whatever it took to make sure she didn't leave. Though, I've already rambled about this. So, I'll stop.
Am I the only one that thought that with Clark's new persuasive powers he could, I don't know, get Zod to NOT build these towers? All he had to do was walk up to Zod and tell him, "I want you to destroy these towers and never rebuild them." Then it would've worked out. (Until Clark's persuasive powers were gone...) But no. He decided it would be better to bring up Jor-El and figure out who really killed his father. I suppose that makes sense, but it was for selfish reasons rather than wanting to save the world. At least at the end he destroyed the towers. It certainly seems like a good thing so Clark doesn't lose and powers and the world doesn't end, but Zod is certainly angry at Clark now. He must know that it was Clark that did that. There's really no turning back now. Zod is angry at Clark and is going to work even harder to build it again, and do whatever it takes to bring Clark down. Yikes.
It was hilarious to see Emil "relax for once." He was slurring his speech a bit more and talking about a fourth lower than normal. Great stuff. I'm glad Clark did what all of us were thinking would work: he told Emil to "go back to normal." I'm also glad that Clark didn't pull a Clark and say something like, "The fairy dust--that's what's giving me my persuasive powers. That's why everyone is acting strange and doing exactly as I say!" Back in seasons 1-7, he probably would've said something like that. I'm glad we got that by Clark telling Emil, "I want you to go back to normal." I certainly thought it'd work. Apparently Clark being exposed to Kryptonite somehow fixed it for everyone he had asked to do something. I have no idea how that makes sense, but I'm glad it got worked out. I'm also glad he didn't kill Tess. He would have felt so terrible!
So, blue-eyed Ninja girl killed Jor-El, huh? Then Jor-El found out and decided to avenge Jor-El's death by shooting her. Well, she did ask him to and everything. I really wasn't sure if he was going to do it. Like Chloe said, this means for sure that the future has changed. Though, like I said before, just the fact that Lois is back means that things have changed. But... they have really changed. While Zod does seem evil in many regards, he does seem to make a little sense. Apparently it's their custom on Krypton to kill people that kill other people? Like the death penalty? So, from Zod's point of view Clark isn't working very hard to be their leader or learn their ways. Though Zod, you must admit that you are on Earth now, so it makes a little more sense to try to live by their customs. Clark is trying to show you how to live your life as a human. That doesn't seem too bad. That's what we're all doing every day. But, Zod is a bit power hungry and really wants powers. He's obviously jealous of Clark and thinks Clark is just hording them or something. It just doesn't work out for Clark, does it? I'm interesting to see what is in store next episode. How angry will Zod be? How will Tess react? She'll likely be pretty relieved that Clark did something to stop the towers from being finished, but Zod will likely try to punish Tess and/or Clark for it. Sad... I'm starting to like Tess.
Okay, I must talk about Clois one last time. At the end when Lois asked Clark, "If you had a really big secret [hypothetically speaking, of course], would you tell me?" Well, Lois, I hate to break it to you, but Clark does have a very big secret, and he hasn't trusted you with it. At least not yet. It's a bit more complicated that simply "trusting," though. What boggles me a little bit is that Clark didn't react his normal way. He didn't get this concerned look on his face and say something stupid. He just smiled a little and said, "You're the most trustworthy person I know." Hmph. Most, Clark? Even more than Chloe? She's obviously proven herself to him. But, you haven't told Lois your secret yet. You admitted yourself that you feel like you're keeping Lois at arm's length by not telling her your secret. You've certainly learned from past relationships that it works out better to just tell people your secret. He has to tell her. At least by the end of the season, right? I think so. Like I've said in many ramblings before, things are moving faster in their relationship that I thought they would. They suddenly kissed, they are going on dates, they are talking about marriage... ;) I suppose by "fast" I mean they are still in a relationship and things are actually still working out! It's so great. I love it. I love it all!
Okay, I think this will do for this rambling. This is so exciting for Clark to be in a relationship that we know will actually work out! Happiness! Finally!
