Smallville Ramblings

6.22 - Phantom

Holy cravitz. I don't even know where to begin. So Chloe is dead (supposedly), Martha is off to Washington, Lana is dead (supposedly), Lois died but came back, Lionel really is a good guy, Lex is more evil than we once thought, Clark finally told Lana his secret with no time travel involved, and Clark has found a way to duplicate an evil twin. Awesome!

So Lionel is trying to tell us that he really is a good guy? Really? He seems to really enjoy letting his evil habits come out in order to do "good." "I know, I know, the methods I have to use seem cruel, heartless, but the truth is I am using them to protect you." I guess Jor-El at times is cruel in order to help his son? I don't know. It's kind of a strange way to protect Clark: to take away Lana's free agency. I mean, from her point of view she is in a trap that she can never get out of. Did Lionel really think all of this through? Couldn't he have gotten inside information another way besides ruining Lana's life? I think he just saw an opportunity to go back to being evil Lionel and getting inside information from Lex like he needed to and went for it. Lana was scared to tell anyone about it in order to protect Clark, but the truth is that Lionel would never have killed Clark. He would just have to explain the situation to Clark and make Clark all upset, like he did in this episode. If it was to protect Clark, why would he threaten to kill Clark to protect him? Lana should have just left Lex when Lionel said that. Well, I guess she ended up doing that anyway. Oh, and just a random sidenote about Lionel -- he cut his hair. He actually cut it back in Noir to fit his part in Jimmy's dream. But somehow that carried into the real world...

I'll ramble a bit about Chloe and Lois! Wes only said those numbers, what... twice last episode? I remember memorizing those numbers just for the fun of it last week and wondering what they could mean, but thinking that they probably wouldn't touch on it -- I was wrong. Lois apparently remembered them quite well and kind of obsessed about them. Then she wanders to those coordinates and gets herself stabbed with a gigantic knife. Why did that security guard have that gigantic knife anyway? That doesn't seem like a customary part of the soldier weaponry: a gigantic knife. Whatever. Ouch. Though, Lois might have been able to live longer if she hadn't had pulled out the knife and let herself bleed to death faster. She should have known that. Oh well, she probably would have been dead by the time Chloe got there anyway. I couldn't believe that they actually killed Lois. And then right after that they showed Lana get blown up in her car. I was spazzing. They just killed two main characters! What the cravitz?? But, no worries. No worries at all. Chloe comes along and finds Lois dead and then reveals her krypto power! Apparently her tears can bring people back to life in exchange for her life? Maybe.

I'm not sure I believe that Chloe is dead. Sure, she really looked dead, and it kind of makes sense that she would replace her life for Lois'...kind of. But, if that is seriously her power then that is really lame. It's not like a power you can use all the time. You just bring someone back and that's it. "So, you're a krypto freak? Show me your power!" "Okay!" *die* Psh. Chloe is just in some kind of coma. Yes, that's it. She's not dead. She brings people back with her tears and then goes into a coma for a couple of hours. I don't know. Smallville has already killed her in a season finale and miracously brought her back before, they've got to do it again. Clark would be utterly devastated. When was the last time that he saw her? Oh, he told her that Lana finally knows his secret. *shrug* That'd do, I suppose. But no, that's not the last time. She's aliiive! Okay, I'll stop about that.

Smallville has finally showed me the two scenes I've been wanting to see for a while. First, Lana coming to see Clark in his barn all alone telling him that she's leaving Lex, and Clark telling her his secret. Second, Lana finally confronting Lex about his fake baby scheme. Oh man... that was awesome. Okay, I'll ramble about the former. It's so funny how I've seen so many Clark-Lana scenes, but I'm still not tired of them. It's nice to see them together again and them being honest with each other! Finally! I want a scene where Clark just goes around showing Lana all of his powers and explaining all of the strange things that he's done. Like Red Kryptonite and why when he said, "No more secrets. No more lies" he really did mean it because he was human at the time. And I want him to tell her how he did tell her his secret and proposed, but his biggest fear came true, so he went back in time and changed his original decision. I--I want it! That would like take an entire episode, though. And I'm not sure everyone would want to see that. Whatever. Lana's response was perfect, and it was exactly what I thought she'd say: "You're still the same Clark Kent to me." Aww. You could see in Lana's face how terrified she was of Clark getting hurt after she said, "You have a weakness." That moment had fantastic acting on both of their parts. Lana was trembling and you could just see all of her worries from the past couple of weeks finally showing through, and Clark looked all stern from Lana knowing about his weakness. "How do you know that?" And I'm glad that Clark finally gave her that hug that she's been needing. Though, how did that scene end? "Alright Lana, I'm really angry right now so I'm gonna go beat up Lionel while you go confront Lex. Break." "Break!" Then Lana scurries off as Clark superspeeds away. I'm not sure. But it was cool to see Clark's eye twitch while he was hugging Lana. Mwhahaha! He was going for Lionel. Then BAM, he gets shot down by Mr. Martian. Oh, and another random sidenote: they had an oboe playing in the background through the majority of the Clark-Lana scene. (Sweet!)

I was giddy to see Lana talk to Lex. "I'll be back tonight." "I won't be." Uh-oh... what is she going to say? Lex still didn't fess up to the fake pregnancy thing. Now, I realize that when Lana was first going on about it, she never actually mentioned there being anything fake, she was just going on about what Lex did for their fake baby. So, Lex is staring at her intensely and analyzing her, and he chose to deny it. "What in God's name are you talking about?" Then Lana unloaded. Oh, BAM! And she didn't take any crap from him. But even after that Lex tried to claim that it was all slander. Psh. It made me wonder if maybe Lex was just saying that so no one could go into his security cameras and have proof of his massive lie. Sure. Why not. Though, when Lex said, "Lana, everything I've ever done... it's because I love you" I really wanted to add, "...and I really just want to make myself more happy then you." I mean, he has always valued himself above others. Sure, he helps other people, but only if it benefits himself as much or more than the person he's helping. What a jerk-face. Though, I do have to admit that Lana's reply of telling Lex that he isn't and never was capable of love was too much. I think that Lex is capable of love, and that he really did love Lana, just not more than himself. That was just a bit too much. If Lex did set up the car explosion, then it was from that statement. But, I have a different theory on the car explosion. I'll get to that later. I did absolutely relish hearing Lana boldly tell Lex that Clark means more to her than Lex ever will. Oh slam. I'm not sure why Lex felt the need to hit her across the face after that, though. I mean, of course I know that her saying that made him angry, but he obviously didn't think it through because at that moment smacking Lana really wasn't the way to win her back. Way to go Lex.

So, Lana is leaving Smallville and saying goodbye, and she makes sure to mention to Lex that the only way that he is keeping her in this marriage is to kill her. Sounds like a setup. We all saw that white van drive by right before Lana's car exploded. She rigged the car! She paid someone off and got in that van so that Lionel couldn't see and then set her car to go off so everyone would think she's dead and put Lex in jail and she'd be free. Free! Though, what does she plan to do from there? She can't just secretly be with Clark. I don't know. Perhaps Lionel is in on the scheme as well? I don't know. That doesn't quite fit either because Lionel didn't have to act when Lana's car exploded. He was all alone. Or maybe it'd be for the driver of his limo? I don't know. That seems like a stretch. Nope, I think that it's just a setup that just Lana has for her to be free. We'll see her next season. I'm not sure what to expect, but we'll see her.

Clark. Clark has duplicated himself! And apparently kryptonite makes this Bizarre-Clark stronger. That's awesome. I really have no clue how they are going to solve this one. Clark's only physical weakness strengthens B-Clark, so maybe Clark's strength weakens B-Clark? The only "strength" that I can think of is the sun. The sun gives Clark his power, right? But that doesn't seem to fit. The episode ended on B-Clark flying away outside after Clark. *shakes head* I don't know. But, I'm sure it will involve a fight scene between the two of them that won't be long enough to appease most people and will end somewhat anti-climatically. *thumbs up* Let's look forward to that!

How sad. We won't have anymore Smallville Ramblings on new episodes for a while. Oh well... let's look forward to the premiere to season 7. It's only like... 4 months or so away. We can make it!
