Smallville Ramblings

6.18 - Progeny

After watching this episode I feel like I'm boiling with anger. The writers are so mean! First I have to cope with the idea of Lana being pregnant with Lex's baby before getting married (that being a big contributor to Lana's decision), and then they give me this. Lana's baby didn't even exist. Lex... Lex... EVIL. But, I'll rant about that later. I'll get some other thoughts out of my mind first.

I'm impressed with how much this season has connected to past seasons. We found out Chloe's mom was in a mental institution in season 4, and then it was touched upon here and there and we finally get to see what the real story is! That should make Chloe feel better to know that her mom's insanity isn't really from having a mental problem, but from having a krypto-power. That should make her fear of being "crazy" disappear, right? Or something? I guess her fear now is discovering her kryptonite power and having it overtake her. Though, this episode did tell us something else. Chloe has been kryptonite-infected ever since the first meteor shower since her mom could control her. Wow! Maybe her power really is hacking computers! Or maybe her power really hasn't manifested itself. Whatever. We've got to find out soon, at least I hope so.

When I first saw Mrs. Sullivan's power I thought, "Oh how clever! Another power that we haven't seen before!" Then I remembered back in season 4 with Mikail Mxyzptlk who could control people so that he would always be "lucky." I guess that wasn't a kryptonite-induced power, was it? But, it's still a power that's already been covered. Though, it doesn't quite make sense. If she had something of that person's possession, then she could control them? Where do you draw the line of someone's possession? Something that they've bought? What if you shared something with someone else? Could she control both of those people? I don't know. It confuses me to think about it too much. Oh well, I'll just ignore it. :)

Clark was really sweet in this episode. When Chloe was talking about how she's been freaking out about what her power is, I thought that Clark's response was perfect. You could see his frustration in seeing her freaking out when she turned away, though. Aww... Clark. (and Chloe) Oh! And he gave Chloe's mom the "full Chloe Sullivan bio." What a fantastic friend. If only something would come of it... oh well! I'll just hope for someone to be with Clark. He needs someone. Oh! Something else about Chloe. She acted very aggressive in this episode! I can understand her being hostile while her mom was controlling her, but nobody was controlling her when she was holding a gun to the escape 33.1 experiment. I was afraid that she was going to kill him. Phew. Good thing she didn't.

Speaking of Clark, I feel so bad for him. It's so strange for him to be on the other side of the Clark-Lana relationship. He wants something to happen and Lana is pushing him away for a reason unknown to him. "I'm going to get through this like I always do." I'm not exactly sure what Lana meant by "like I always do." Like she's gotten through her relationship with Clark? Just with life in general? I don't know. Either way I know she could get through it all better if Clark were there with her. I really wanted her to open up to Clark and tell him that Lionel threatened to kill him and that she knows his secret (to an extent). Oh... but then I know that Clark would overreact and probably get himself killed. Which is exactly the reason why Lana isn't telling Clark anything. It's all so tragic. I am glad that Lana told Clark that she had "miscarried." I really wanted Lana to just get up out of bed and let Clark give her a nice long hug and let her just cry. That would be awesome.

At least Clark wasn't as Red-Clarky as he was last episode. Well, at least until the end. He looked really angry when Chloe told him that Lex threatened her. (Which was a great Chlark moment.) A war is coming?? Sweet! It better end in Clark marrying Lana and Lex being left alone in all of his pure-evilness. Oh!! I almost forgot! Right before Clark saved Lex's life (yet again) he hesitated! He did not want to save Lex. Just think of how many of Clark's problems would be fixed if Lex were dead... but, of course. He did the "right" thing and saved his life anyway. It reminded me of Fade last season when Clark regretted saving that guy that ended up murdering other people and whatnot. Not that that really matters.

Alright... it's Lana rambling time. I felt so utterly terrible for Lana. The doctor not only gave her the information that she had never been pregnant, but he told her in an accusatory way. At first I just thought he was an utter jerk, but when I re-watched it, he seemed to back down and feel bad for accusing her when she mentioned seeing a sonogram of her baby. Oh... my... gosh. Alexander Luthor. I am in shock. I was just talking about how it couldn't be that Lana didn't really have a baby because Lex wouldn't have reacted in his alternate-dimension back in Static. Well, I went back and watched the part where Lana first mentions her being pregnant, and Lex's reaction actually fits perfectly with the baby being non-existent. (Imagine that) I can't describe all of the emotions that went into his reaction to her saying that. I guess he looked angry at himself for putting Lana in the situation... or maybe just annoyed since he never wanted a child. Only her. Or something. I don't know. But, it is interesting how Lex decided at the end of that episode that it would be the right time for him to propose. Right after she tells him that she's having a "baby" with him. He made Lana think that she was pregnant so that she would marry him. That is unbelievably selfish. Did he not know that it would absolutely crush Lana to find out she "miscarried?" Did he just think that she would look to Lex for comfort and their relationship would be strengthened? Obviously it's doing the exact opposite. Lana is pulling away from Lex. She was pulling away from him even before she found out that the baby didn't exist. I don't know what she's going to do now that she knows that it didn't even exist in the first place. She's got to know that it was Lex that set it all up. She seriously can't stay with Lex knowing that he did that. What did she say back in Static? "You're the most honest anyone's ever been with me." Psh! Yeah right, Lana! I disagreed with that statement before I knew Lex had set up her pregnancy. I can't imagine what she's going to do now that she knows that Lex has been more dishonest to her than anyone else she's ever known.

Now that I go back and read my rambling from Combat, I feel like a complete idiot. I guess I never considered that Lex would have obviously drugged her with synthetic hormones to fake a pregnancy. Having a doctor tell Lana that she's pregnant and having a fake sonogram wouldn't be the only thing that would let Lana know she's pregnant. She had to stop having menstrual cycles and get morning sickness and whatnot. I never knew that synthetic hormones like that existed, I suppose. It's just so... so... selfish. It was all about Lex and his happiness. "This will crush Lana, but profit me in the end." I can't believe that someone would go to that length to be so cruel. Especially to someone that they genuinely loved and cared about. I know that Lex really does care for Lana. I guess not more than himself. He values his happiness more than anyone else's. Unbelievable. I really want Lana to just run away from Lex and get Clark to take her away from there. Or just let him give her a hug. Though, I have no idea how Lana would be able to get away and go to Clark's place without Lex knowing about it. Though, she did go and talk to Clark at the end of Hydro, and she went and snuck around Clark's barn at the end of Crimson. Maybe it's not impossible. Do it, Lana!

I was thinking, though. Lionel told Lana that he would kill Clark if she left Lex at the alter, right? Maybe I should get the quote down verbatim before I ramble about it... "If you don't honor the promise that you've made to my son, or I find out that you've told anyone about this conversation, I will kill Clark Kent." (What a jerk-face.) Okay... so she has already honored her promise to Lex by marrying him, right? She just has to find a way to get with Clark without telling about Lionel's conversation! Heh... heh... yeah... I don't know how that would work. *snap* If only Lionel hadn't thrown that in at the end, Lana would be in good shape. You know what she needs to do? Kill Lionel, and then be with Clark. :) Okay, maybe not. What a predicament we have here. Lana just needs to find a way to be with Clark. Do it!! I don't know or care how!

*takes a deep breath* I'm okay... I'm definitely looking forward to next week's episode. Lana has got to confront Lex about the non-existent baby, or at least tell someone about it. (Ideally Clark) Clark is going to go insane and try and kill Lex... or something. Either way it should be exciting.
