6.16 - Promise
Holy freaking cravitz. This episode made me feel so utterly depressed! I suspect that this'll be one long rambling. It might even pass up Crimson, but I guess we'll just see. So what were the main points from this episode? Lana found out Clark's secret (to a degree), Lana realizes her mistake of marrying Lex, Clark realizes what a coward he's been, Lex kills someone, and we all hate Lionel. He... he... he's ruined everything! What a jerk face.
What to ramble about first? Well, first of all, I suspected that it was some sort of setup when Clark went and saved Chloe from the evil wine cellar. (Who didn't?) The way that Chloe said, "I'm freezing!" didn't really sound convincing. I started suspecting something then. And then the way that Clark just kind of used his powers so casually. It was very suspicious. And of course it was quite convenient that Chloe chose right then and there to confront Clark about Lana. Did Chloe suspect Lana's setup and make it work out like it did? Maybe that's her power! Mind reading. (or something) If she found a new power like mind reading, it seems like she would let Clark know. Well, no. No she wouldn't. Not in front of Lana like that and right when Clark was all emotional about everything in life. Psh. I'm probably reading too much into all of this. (What's new?) When they showed the various times, I was really confused at first. I thought that the wedding was at 11:03 AM! Whoa, Clark! Hurry up! You're going to miss it! And then when they showed another wedding invitation thing with a different time, it all made sense. It reminded me somewhat of Commencement when it showed the clock counting down to the meteor shower. Though, that was different because time was still flowing normally. Bleh, whatever. It doesn't really matter.
When Clark talked to Martha I got a bit confused. Didn't Martha say in Crimson that the best thing that Clark can do right now is to leave Lana alone? And now she's telling a story about her and Jonathan almost not getting married. I don't think she could have said anything more convincing for Clark to go after Lana. Seems a bit contradictory. But, whatever. It's okay. Though, perhaps Martha was talking about leaving Lana alone in Crimson just temporarily and give her some room to recover from Clark being all... red-Clarky. Or something. I'm completely going out on a limb here. It doesn't really matter! Goodness. I did like how they compared Clark and Lana's journey to realizing that they still wanted to be together in a similar manner. They both go and talk to their respective mother figures. Aunt Nell! Holy cravitz, Aunt Nell! The writers must really love her, because this is the third episode that they have mentioned her. This time she was actually here in person and talked to Lana! Goodness! You'd think there'd be some hard feelings, but I guess not. I wonder if we'll see her again. At this rate, I'm thinking that we will.
I don't know what to expect from Lex now. You know that Lana is going to leave him soon, somehow. Maybe she'll die trying to save Clark, or something. Oh... that'd be a twist. Lex would turn all super-villain and Clark would probably go kill himself. Then it'd be the Lex show! :) No, umm... I don't know what to think about Lex. He doesn't really know how to control his rage. He completely flipped out and killed the doctor guy. It really makes me wonder what exactly this baby is, though. Obviously the sonograms that Lana and Lex were looking at before the opening credits were completely fake. I guess that doesn't have to be true. The baby could look normal and still be a meteor freak. But it's gotta be something bad if the doctor was willing to ask for 2 million dollars to keep his mouth shut. Why would Lex do that to Lana? What is it?? Oh... I bet it's going to kill Lana somehow. That would absolutely destroy Lex, and Clark would hate Lex even more. (Why do I keep coming back to Lana's death?) Obviously the baby is bugging Lex since his nightmare was the baby's gigantic sonogram attacking him. (sort of) That was also kind of interesting, having the three main characters wake up from various nightmares. (I guess)
Let's all decide on something. We all hate Lionel. Stupid Lionel! Lately he's seemed somewhat nice! But this episode he was nothing but evil. Evil! Evil! Evil! He "promises" to Lex to have Lana there on the alter, and what do you know? He does that. But in the process he ruins Clark and Lana's lives. Right when Lana finally finds out Clark's secret without her losing her memory or someone going back in time, Lana is forced to marry Lex and they can't be together. It kind of bugs me. I mean, come on! We've been on the Clark-Lana roller coaster since season 1! I should be tired of it. I should hate the writers for trying to revive it so many times. But, I just can't! I want for them to be together! And right when it seems like everything is working out, something catastrophic happens. One of these days something good has got to happen for Clark. Maybe Lex will die! Uhh, no Jephthah. That's ridiculous. Lex Luthor can't die. He's hilarious! Superman/Smallville would be very boring without him. In fact, nobody has to die. (Stop doing that, Jephthah.)
Okay, so back to Lionel. Did you see Lionel's approving nod and smile when Lana arrived and said, "I do" to Lex? That jerk face! Someone shouldn't be forced to marry someone else if they don't want to. Lionel even turned and looked at Clark with an even more satisfied grin. "Ah hah! I've ripped out his heart! Everything is working out for me! How awesome it is being me!" When Lionel first went in and talked to Lex about still having to clean up after Lex, I thought he was going to say something about getting Lana to show up. No, he just wanted to make sure Lex knew that Lionel has the upper hand in whatever deal they want in the future since he saved Lex's butt, yet again. It does make me wonder, though. Would Lionel have killed Clark if Lana had gone off and not married Lex? I mean, he would have absolutely no chance with Martha if he did that. He'd probably find someway to frame someone else to put him in the best light. That devious Lionel.
I feel so bad for Lana and Clark. Lana's emotions have got to be all over the place. (You know, if she were a real person.) She really does love Lex, but she loves Clark more, but she's forced to marry Lex in order to protect Clark. Oh how the tables have turned. For once, Lana is actually protecting Clark. I know this isn't a profound discovery, but Lana told Clark exactly what Clark has told her so many times before. "I never meant to hurt you." Why didn't she say something like Lionel threatened to kill Clark if she didn't marry Lex? I know that's probably a stupid questoin. Maybe so Clark wouldn't try to go and beat Lionel up and die in the process? Most likely. But now Clark's heart has been ripped out and stepped on numerous times. Lana put his hopes up and then Clark stands there and watches her tell Lex that she will marry him. Clark's last expression as he watched Lana and Lex drive off as newly weds... ouch. I so wanted to give him a hug. I've never seen Clark look more hurt and lonely. Even at Jonathan's funeral Lana was there holding his hand. I really don't know what to expect next Thursday. (I've restrained from seeing any previews.) Oohh... I can't wait!
I'm not exactly sure why they changed some of the scenes that they showed twice. For instance, when Clark got Chloe out of the wine cellar, Chloe only mentioned Clark being strapped to a boulder of Kyrptonite the second time. I don't know why. Maybe it's suppose to be like the different people's perception of what happened? Either way it was interesting to see what a difference it makes on how people say different lines and their expressions. Clark never smirked when it showed him talking to Lana from his point of view. Maybe he thought he was trying to conceal how excited he was? He smirked when it was Lana's point of view... she can see through him? I know it. I'm thinking too much into it. But, why would they do that? It's easy enough to just use the exact same scene when you repeat something. It just seems like there's gotta be some sort of reason.
This entire weekend I kept replaying one part of a scene in my head over and over again. "Let it go?! Lana, I love you! I love you." I think that's the first time that Clark has told Lana that he loved her without her saying it first. He said it so earnestly, too. He even started to tell Lana his secret! "I'm not like everyone else. I'm--" And then Lana cut him off! It was like she didn't want Clark to know that she knew for some reason... that scene was very interesting. Oh, and right before that when Lex came in telling Lana how lucky he was... holy fake smile, Lana. Oh, and on the alter I thought it was funny (in some twisted way) that Lex looked at Lana and mouthed, "I love you" as a tear rolled down her cheek. Lex has got to notice that Lana isn't comfortable with the marriage. I don't know where it's going to go from here. I mean, now that they are married they've got to go on a honeymoon, right? It doesn't seem like Lana really wants to do that right now. Ahh! Next episode! But, anyway. Clark started to tell Lana his secret. At that point Clark was literally ready to do anything to get Lana back, and he got slammed down. I can't imagine the extreme depression I would feel if I were in Clark's position. And that look that Lex gave Clark before going in the car. "I got her Clark! I got her! Oh... and you look so hurt. Excellent." Evilness... and Lana is trapped in the middle of it. I would so not want to be Lana right now.
It seems like there's more I could say, but I think I'm done. I guess this didn't turn out as long as I thought it would. Next Thursday! Come quick!
