6.21 - Prototype
Overall this was a pretty good episode. It was a lot better than Noir, I'll say that much. At least in this episode we got to see what was happening in real Smallville land rather than someone's dream. It was cool to see how Lex's experiments are fitting together and why that soldier was important enough for Lex to risk his life over. Interesting indeed...
It is quite convenient that Lois has a link to the military. Anytime that there's any sort of connection to the military, she's suddenly a vital part of the storyline. It seems unlikely that out of all the soldiers that Lex picked to use as a prototype for his experiment, that he picked Lois' first kiss. Okay, well Wes Keenan wasn't the first prototype, he was the fourth one, right? But still... out of everyone, he picked him. Oh well. It's not that big of a deal, I suppose. But, what happened to Oliver, Lois? She doesn't seem to be moping around about him anymore.
Speaking of moping around, what is Chloe's problem? She's all depressed about Jimmy being gone, but we don't see him half of the episodes anyway. What's so different about this one? I guess there isn't any "off the camera" time that we never see? I don't know. I just think it's funny how non-existent Jimmy is for being her boyfriend that she supposedly really cares about.
On the subject of caring about people--Clark and Lana. I loved their moment in the mansion. I keep replaying it in my head when I get bored. (Wow, I'm obsessed, I know. But it does pass the time well at work to think about Smallville.) There's no question that they were about to kiss. Clark leaned in and had his eyes on Lana's lips. He must assume that Lana knows his secret because he supersped in and out of there like it was no big deal. If Lana didn't know Clark's secret already, it seems like she'd know it now. *shrug* Oh man, but before Clark zipped in all creepy-like, ("Lana!" That would creep me out...) Lana so burned Lex when she turned away from his kiss. What is going through Lex's mind? He knows that she is pulling away from him. And then he tells Lana how he doesn't know what he'd do if he lost her. "So, if you leave me and I do something terrible -- it's your fault. Ha!" No, Lex. It's your fault for losing Lana and you are going to make the choice of doing something terrible when she leaves you. She really did love you, but when you fake a pregnancy to force her to marry her, that doesn't really go over well. I loved her response to Lex's statement before. "I would never hurt the man that I love." (Clark!!) Don't worry Lex, she doesn't love you so she will hurt you in the near future. Mwhahaha! I can't wait to see that moment. It's got to happen. I know it has to. *gets all excited*
Oh, but back to Clark. (I just remembered something else.) "You made the wrong choice. You have no idea what Lex is capable of." By the way, Lana, you suck at life. That seemed a bit bold to say to Lana. But Lana is so blinded by love that she didn't seem to really care. Or maybe she just agreed so whole-heartedly that she didn't mind Clark being so blunt. Tom really did do a great job acting in that scene, though. His expression when he said, "Lana..." before going in for the kiss was perfect. He was so full of love, hurt, and want for Lana. "I know." Another words, "Lana, I love you." "I know you love me, I love you too." Aww... Smallville is so good at tugging at your heart. Or maybe just my heart. Whatever.
It was funny when Lana came in and told Lex how he never came home and he just told the truth casually about having an issue with project Ares (or "pro-ject" as Lois said), and Lana put on her act of "Ares?" So Lex offered to tell Lana anything with no secrets. "Sure, Lana. You can ask anything you want and I'll make up whatever lie you want to hear." "Oh fantastic." It was a slam to Lex when Lana looked at him longingly and said, "No secrets?" knowing full-well that he had kept the biggest lie from her for a long time. Oh, what a jerk-face. A jerk-face that makes Smallville so much fun to watch.
Oh, Lionel! So we knew a while back that he was getting the Kryptonian language, but he seems to really be getting grasp of it. How did he get "mirror" from that video? And what does it mean? How does that video link to everything? I don't know. I do know that it's the same phantom that they showed way back in Zod at the end of the episode. Oh, wow, Smallville writers. The continuity. I'm assuming we are going to see how it all links together in the season finale. Oh, the season finale! Excitement!
Okay, so Martha is going to Washington? What the cravitz! Is that the writer's way of killing Martha without really killing her? Are we ever going to see her? I'm sure something is going to happen so she can't really go to Washington and be a U.S. Senator. Though, I did think it was awesome that Clark made sure to mention how proud Jonathan would be to see Martha helping out so many people with Lionel standing right now. "By the way, Lionel, you still aren't my father and you never will be."
So why does it seem like every politician, besides Martha, is crooked in Smallville? Back in Relic we found out that the mayor was covering up a murder, in Exposed the previous Senator to Martha was having an affair with a stripper, and now a U.S. senator is accepting bribes from Lex Luthor to continue an experiment. Then he's stupid enough to threaten Lex. You knew that when Lex replied to Burke with "perfectly" that Senator Burke was going to die. What an idiot. Haven't you watched the show before? I guess not.
On to the season finale! I'm expecting to be flipping out with some cliffhanger that's going to torture me all summer long. Yay for television obsessions!
