8.14 - Requiem
So much happened in this episode... so much. I'm questioning Oliver's character, Clana seriously seems to be over, Lex is "dead" and we still have no Lois or Jimmy! They better both be in the next episode, or I'll probably explode. Then you wouldn't get the pleasure of reading my ramblings! We all know what a tragedy that would be. Let's dive in head first!
This main evil character reminded me a lot of the Joker from the Dark Knight. He wore the trenchcoat, loved to blow things up using toys (some sort of sick joke) and... I don't know... was evil? He of course wasn't nearly as awesome or disturbing as the Joker in Dark Knight, but I don't think the little parallels and hints ("You're a clown, right?") were an accident. At least we finally knew that that was Lex and that he was working with this guy. Umm... it seems like
I had more to say about this guy, but I don't think so. I'll just move on.
Okay, so apparently Clark wasn't as reluctant as I thought about this whole Clana business. Of course when Lana has powers they've got to have sex. Lana wouldn't have it any other way. I was rather disappointed when the first scene we see after the credits is Clark and Lana getting it on... and end up breaking Clark's bed because of it. I knew from that point that Lois was probably not going to show up, which was probably a good thing. I would hate to see Lois's heart ripped out even more seeing them together. At least now when she comes back (she better!!) Clark will need a shoulder to cry on because of Lana and Lois will be there for him. But... more on that later. Setting aside my need and want for Clois, it was enjoyable to see Clark and Lana working together without any secrets or uncomfortableness. Lana really does seem to be a good person now, and is helping Clark out along the way. She stopped Clark from killing Lex, even though he just blew up moments afterwards anyway. Though, I'm not convinced that Lex is dead. It's very possible that he just made them believe he was in that truck and then was hiding out somewhere else. I don't know... it just doesn't seem right to have a Superman story where Lex Luthor is dead.
Okay, so that paragraph was supposed to just be about Clana, but kind of spread into Clois and Lex. Oh well. Let's get into this Lex business. I guess he got hurt pretty badly. It actually reminded me a lot of Darth Vader. He even had the mask and different voice. I refuse to believe he's dead. I refuse! I want to see Michael Rosenbaum come back sometime as Lex. I miss him. I'm sure the cast does, too. He's a real character. Probably makes working a lot of fun. Okay, that's not really related to this episode, though. What was that ring that Oliver had at the end? A kryptonite ring that Lex made so Clark couldn't get near him? That certainly seems to support the idea that Lex really did die. I don't know. I don't really like that Oliver was looking at it like he was. Is he going to stash that away and wear it when he wants to keep Clark off his back? Oliver is really scaring me. He actually killed Lex. He didn't hesitate--just went ahead and did it. He didn't want Chloe to tell Clark about what he knew so Clark wouldn't stop him from killing Lex. Yes, it may or may not be better in the world with Lex gone... but we all don't really feel right about it. We all know that he's hated Lex for a long time. It's about more than just protecting the world. He wanted revenge for his parents. I'm glad that he's not with Lois anymore. Clark is so much better for her. :)
Lex decided to make this "suit" that Lana is wearing absorb Kryptonite. That's inconvenient. Very inconvenient. Especially for Clark. Okay, it's terribly sad but I can't help but laugh at the fact that for so long Clark would refuse to get in a relationship with Lana to protect her. Her being with him just kept getting her hurt. Now he is the one that can't get near her or he could die from the pain! It's hilariously tragic! Though, I really don't see how Clana could come back from this. I mean, Lana is basically this walking kryptonite bar. There's no way anything could ever work out between them. Unless Lana gets that suit off somehow or the kryptonite sucked out of her, I'm not seeing it. Which is very sad and depressing, and yet so relieving! I think the Clark-Lana roller coaster has finally come to a screeching halt! I've thought this at least 2 or 3 times before, though. But this is the freakin' 8th season. There's talk of a 9th season, but this could very well be it. I certainly hope they don't bring Clana back. I never thought I'd say that, but I mean it. It's nice, but we've had enough. We want Clois! CLOIS!
Back to Oliver. So he apparently is a majority share holder of LuthorCorp now. That just doesn't seem right. Is he going to become the new Lex Luthor or something? I kind of hope he uses it for good somehow, or doesn't own it anymore soon. It seems like it could only lead to trouble. Trouble, I say! Tess seems to be doing a fine job running it. Which, speaking of Tess, she really seems to be getting better. I'm not sure what to expect from her. Have Tess and Oliver hooked back up again or something? I hope she's turning good and stays good. That'd be so nice. Thanks to Lana. :) Aww, thanks.
So... the end of this episode was basically depression on steroids. First of all, the thought of Lex being dead is really sad. Clark and Lex were best friends! He really can be a nice guy... and he's gone. (Though I'm still in denial that it's for good. Cross my fingers!) Then, of course there's the fact that Lana is full of KRYPTONITE! Clark is all depressed and starting to move past it all and then Lana shows up in his barn. He gets the strength to walk up to her and give her one last kiss. That kiss looked rather painful. All of this kryptonite is just filling his body until he can't take it anymore... and he falls over. Aww, the sound and expression Lana makes after Clark falls to the ground is utterly heart-breaking. Both of their wills to be together are causing her love to be in terrible pain caused by her. That's a horrid situation. I'm not too crazy about the part when Lana told Clark that they were in each other's hearts. Yes, it's really sweet, but it makes it sound like they are really meant for each other and even if they can't be together, they are in spirit. I realize that's not what that statement could mean, but it kind of takes away a good chance of real Clois if Clark is just settling for Lois when he can't have Lana. I hate that. Lois is not a rebound girl. She deserves Clark actually wanting her over Lana. Over anybody else. Though, it was really sweet to see Clark on the ground in pain, but gasp out, "I love you..." Aww... Smallville! Why must you rip out my heart so many times?
This ended up shorter than I expected, but I think this'll be all for this episode. Let's quickly move on to the next episode! As far as I'm concerned, the Smallville plot has been suspended ever since Lois left back in Bride. Give me my Clois!
