Smallville Ramblings

10.16 - Scion

Clark and Lex have a child! What the heck? I was laughing about that during the entire episode. I loved Lois's comment on it as well: "Are you trying to tell me that Conner is the genetic love child of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor?" "Well, you don't have to say it like that." As Clark smiles at the idea of him and Lex having a child. It's so strange. Though, I googled Superboy and discovered that this is something they took from the comics! It isn't just Smallville being weird--that's actually one of the origins of Superboy. Unbelievable. But, you know what this means, right?? Alexander isn't going to grow up to be the evil Lex Luthor that Clark will have to overcome! Somehow the Lex that we know and love will come back! It'll be so fantastic!

Okay, so I was wrong--they didn't get married this episode. I'm worried that it's not going to be next episode either because there weren't any hints in this episode that it would be happening so soon. Ugh. Perhaps it'll still be next episode, though. I mean, last episode had their bachelor(ette) parties! I surely hope it's next episode. I don't want to wait until the finale to see them get married. Perhaps what I predicted last rambling will happen next episode! They'll get married and the real Lex will come back to ruin everything and Lana will be lurking in the background! It'll happen, folks. I know it.

I absolutely loved the beginning of the episode when Tess was randomly in Clark's house. "I just feel like you and I haven't had a chance to really catch up lately." "Okay. So, how are you?" "Good! Good. How are you?" "I'm fine, thanks." *awkward silence* "Right, okay, uh..." Cassidy Freeman really made that moment hilarious for me. I really like that she is a good character, now. She is much funnier when she's more relaxed and a good person. I'm glad they haven't pursued anything between her and Clark. I was worried there for a moment back in Luthor, but Clark was just being a nice guy. He's getting married to the woman of his dreams: LOIS! FINALLY! It's got to be soon... got to be...

It's kind of funny that Clark and Lois now seem to have a teenage son. A son that is Clark and Lex's. I just can't get over that fact. It's so hilariously awkward. It was interesting to see the obvious parallels with the red kryptonite ring between Conner and Clark to Jonathan and Clark in the premiere of season 3. Clark even grabbed him and smashed the ring against a support beam like Jonathan did to Clark. It's kind of awkward that Conner was advancing on Lois... and sort of mother figure to him. Well, sort of. When he first saw her and Clark saw Conner's heat vision acting up... awkward. They both just stood there and covered up what just happened. "Oh, Conner just got aroused by seeing you so it activated his heat vision. Oh yeah, he has half of my DNA and has super powers like me." That's all. No big deal, Lois. She really accepted the whole situation pretty well. She freaked out a bit at first, as she should have, but then saw how much Clark related to this kid and how much faith he had in him and she went with it. "Sure, let's have a teenage son. I'll just go make some copies from a book that will tell us how to raise teenagers. Super powered or not, it'll probably be the same thing." Lois really is such a good person. Now that she knows Clark's secret we really see that. Yay for Lois being awesome!

Speaking of Lois being awesome, I must mention something else she said when Clark told her he had a teenage son with Lex. "His name is not the only thing that changed. Conner has. He's only half Lex, it turns out." "What? Okay, well if you say that the other half is Tess then I'm going to officially write that family off for good." Seriously, if they decided to do that to poor Alexander... yikes! He would be the child of himself and his half sister who acted as his adoptive mother. That's just wrong on so many levels. Instead, it's only slightly less messed up. He's a combo of Clark and Lex. I know they were best friends a while ago... it'll take a while before I stop laughing at that. Absolutely hilarious.

When Conner realized that Clark was the Blur, he said that he didn't think anyone other than the Blur had his powers. What about Kara? Didn't she show her face and fly around Metropolis? Didn't Jor-El tell her that people needed to know about her? We haven't heard from her since that episode. I guess everyone has forgotten that she exists. Again. She certainly has powers like Conner, AND she can fly. Maybe she can come back to teach Conner how to fly since Clark seems hopeless. Well, no. He flew in a virtual world. Blech, that doesn't count at all. I fly in virtual worlds all the time. There's absolutely no hope for Clark. He'll NEVER fly.

I'll continue talking about the awesomeness of Lois. When Tess approached her to get Lois to convince Clark to get rid of Lionel, she was so reasonable! She appeased Tess by suggesting they bring down Lionel by exposing he's not the real Lionel and appeased Clark by not getting him to kill Lionel and protected Clark because Lionel obviously knows Clark's weakness. While Tess was only trying to protect the world, Lois showed her the obvious flaw in Tess's plan--Clark could die, BUT she fixed it! They brought down Lionel in the end without getting blood on their hands! Oh, it's so great. Though, we know that Lionel will be coming back later. Whenever the real Lex decides to show his face, Lionel will be there to either be killed again by Lex, or to make Lex even more evil. It's going to be so exciting!

I don't know why Conner's hair has suddenly changed colors or why this transformation just suddenly took place. He grows up as Lex completely until he's about a teenager, and then goes through a transformation to become more like Clark? And this transformation includes getting powers, changing personality, changing hair color, and forgetting all of Lex's memories? Apparently. I'm glad he was there to save Lois from dying. He's obviously a good person if he still saved her life when he was on red kryptonite. Or, he just really liked Lois and wanted to have her to himself. Yes, that's more plausible.

Speaking of plausible things, apparently green kryptonite decided to explode this episode from heat vision. I think that's the second or third time they've decide it would do that. In Onyx it turned into purple kryptonite, and in Extinction and many other episodes it melts when heated. It's kind of like metal, right? If you heat it up slowly it will melt, and when it heats up quickly it explodes! We all know that metal explodes when it's heated up quickly! Right. Anyhow. I always laugh when they do silly things like that. It was quite convenient for Clark that Conner did that. It was also quite convenient that he actually hit the kryptonite. If he had missed the kryptonite and hit Clark instead... OUCH. He would have felt that burn. But he would have eventually hit the kryponite and then Clark would have promptly healed. I see why he took the chance.

So they did take care of Lionel to an extent, but wouldn't anyone think it was weird that his fingerprints were exactly reversed from the real Lionel Luthor? How would that be possible in the real world? "Oh, what a coincidence. This man impersonating Lionel Luthor has the exact fingerprints of his only reversed." Wouldn't people suspect something? I like how Tess's little iPad could figure out the reversed finger prints and explain it explicitly. All finger print scanners work like that. It's quite often that people's finger prints are reversed, so of course the programmers would have the scanners check for that case. There is so much sarcasm in this paragraph. I should stop.

Speaking of stopping, this rambling will now stop. Right. Now. Ended.
