10.2 - Shield
This episode was... interesting. I got a little confused in the middle of it, but I think I've got it. Apparently the people who kidnapped Oliver and then traded for Chloe are the Suicide Squad. They "marked" Clark, Oliver, and Carter (and probably other people in the Justice League, but we didn't see it) with plans to... make them part of the Suicide Squad somehow? I don't know. I don't know how bullets and water mark people either. But, whatever. We got to see "Cat Grant" who I kind of hope leaves Smallville or dies soon. I think Clark secretly hopes so, too. Or that she at least moves desks. I guess I could settle with that. She's not nearly as annoying as the Cat Grant from Lois and Clark. Ugh. She had issues. Anyhow, no random Jonathan appearances and Lois may be thinking about coming back for Clark. YAY!
I'm glad Clark is keeping up with Lois to make sure she is okay. It's kind of cute. Though, he's still acting really stupid thinking that she doesn't know his secret. Carter was sure to confirm that for all of us. I'm glad Carter was able to sit down with Lois and talk about some things. I wasn't a big fan of when he thought that Lois was his wife and kissed her, but I was a fan of Lois slapping him afterwards. I love Lois. Not only that, but then at the end Carter basically told Lois that she needed to go back to Clark because he needed her. It kind of makes sense now why she would leave. Clark has a bigger destiny that her, I guess. Same reason why she broke up with Oliver, right? But she isn't meant to be with Oliver, she's meant to be with CLARK. So it would work out. We all know it. I really hope she heads back to him NEXT EPISODE. Though, knowing Smallville I bet she won't even be in the episode. She'll just be "off in Africa" while nobody mentions her and Smallville decides to go off on some stupid storyline tangent that I'll want to kill. Oh, maybe not. I'll try not to expect too much, though.
We got to hear someone say "Superman" with reference to Clark! At least I'm assuming that Lois thought of Clark when she smiled and said "Superman" in figuring out what "ubermensch" meant. I actually did the same thing when I first heard Carter say "ubermensch." You know, I did take German in high school so obviously I'm fluent. *cough* Though, like the original Superman outfit, I think I might actually prefer the name Blur instead of Superman. It just suddenly moves from Smallville land to some corny comic book land when they call him Superman. Though, maybe not. Maybe it'd be okay if he was suddenly called Superman instead of the Blur. We'll see.
This name "Suicide Squad" makes a lot more sense now. They aren't heroes that just do something and then commit suicide, since that's rather silly. They apparently are called the "Suicide Squad" because they all look like they've committed suicide but really are underground fighting crime. That's an interesting idea. Though, they must be pretty stealthy for people not to pinpoint who is fighting whatever crime they fight. If they show up and do something how could they completely hide themselves? I guess I don't know what kind of crime they are fighting. If they're like Chloe then it'd be rather easy to look like you're dead while working from a computer. Hm. That's a storyline that suddenly got much more interesting. And for some reason Plastique is part of it with this "deadshot" and the torturer guy. Actually, does that mean that the Icicle from Absolute Justice is actually part of this Suicide Squad? Is Suicide Squad part of Checkmate? It seems like it since Waller was the first one to mention it in Absolute Justice. But, she's dead, right? How could she fake that death? I thought Checkmate couldn't identify Deadshot, so how could he suddenly be part of Suicide Squad? Maybe Tess was lying? No, I don't think so. I'm confused.
Okay, Clark's new outfit at the end really looked awesome. That's exactly what I had in mind when I mentioned Clark needing to get an outfit from Oliver. That jacket is perfect. Now, I can only assume that Oliver is the one who had it made for Clark in the first place. Otherwise, I have no idea how Clark got it. Maybe that doesn't matter too much. Though, I'm wondering why he decided to make that awesome jacket instead of use the tights that Martha made for him. Yes, they are stuck in the fortress, but I don't think Clark knows that. Did that happen in real Smallville land or in stupid Smallville land? I assume in stupid Smallville land because they didn't give any indication otherwise. It makes me think if Smallville decided to change Clark's dimension so we assume that the Superman we all know is in real Smallville land while whatever spin they want to take will happen in stupid Smallville land. No, that doesn't really make sense because Smallville is already in its own land not following various things that have happened in the normal Superman mythology. Though, none of this matters too much because I like this jacket. I hope he keeps it and it becomes his outfit for sure. He doesn't need any sort of cape... that would just be silly.
So, speaking of the end when Clark is wearing that jacket, I really thought that he was just going to jump off the ledge and fly off to get Lois in Egypt. He even had those plane tickets in his hand that he decided to drop. Why did he get those in the first place? Giving himself an option to go get her? Giving himself an excuse as to how he was able to get to Egypt when he superspeed's over there and sees her? Why would he drop them then? Is he giving up on seeing her? So many questions. He's got to be flying soon. They are getting so close to real Superman stuff.
So Chloe faked her own death? Well, that's better to hear than her killing herself with Cyanide. Chloe can't die! That would be a tragedy to Smallville! Though, it sounds like she hasn't. It actually sounds like she joined the Suicide Squad. So perhaps they know that she is still alive and she's working with them. No, that doesn't make sense, either. She was walking with them at the end. Why would she want to mark all of her Justice League friends? Actually, that makes a lot of sense. She's been into tracking them and making sure they aren't getting into trouble. Perhaps she is the one behind all of this. That would certainly be interesting. I just hope she doesn't disappear for the season. We've got to see her again. I thought it seemed a little fishy when Clark supersped away from her last episode and she said a heartfelt "Goodbye, Clark" like she would never see him again. :( CHLOE! NO!!! But, she's still alive and perhaps keeping an eye on all of them.
I don't know how Cat didn't suspect anything of Clark after her car started to explode and then suddenly she was on the street with Clark. How the heck did he explain that? "I just jumped out of the car and brought us to safety! Yeah, I happen to be wearing a heat resistant body suit underneath my clothes. Never leave the house without it!" I don't know, but Cat didn't seem too phased by it. Which, I guess is a good thing. Or it just means the writers didn't know how to get past it and so they thought they'd just ignore it. Good one, writers.
So, in conclusion, Cat needs to die or change desks, Chloe needs to show herself sometime, Clark needs to fly, and Clark and Lois need to get married. That's all. Let's see if they can fit all of that in next episode!
