Smallville Ramblings

7.17 - Sleeper

Interesting episode. I didn't suspect at all that it would be Jimmy acting all James Bond-esque at the beginning. A clever way to start the episode. "How does he get that way and why??" Though, it's been done so many times before. Oh well. It worked for me this time. :)

It's about time the FBI got to Chloe. She's been doing some high level hacking ever since I can remember. I guess now that she got into the "major leagues" and starting hacking the Pentagon (or something) then they suddenly noticed and started to care. Either way, I'm not sure that's how they'd really handle it in real life. I wouldn't know at all since I've never really been in trouble with the FBI and had them try and catch me, but it seems like they'd just stop her and figure out what she was up to themselves rather than try to go through her boyfriend. I don't know. It made for an interesting episode. It was cute to see Jimmy and Chloe dance. Both of them having a different agenda for the trip to the club and trying to act like nothing was up. But, of course, Chloe was the one that really knew what was going on and had complete control over everything that was going on. Well, except for the part when they caught her and were trying to get her to tell what she was up to and beating her up and Jimmy had to come and save the day. (What a freakin' long sentence.)

So Lex conveniently "took care of" the whole situation with Chloe and the FBI? How does he do all of this? Bribes? It seems like there are times when there's just nothing you can do. I guess not in Smallville. Those people just get killed or something. You knew that Lex had to have something like that up his sleeve, though. Now we know that sometime in the future Lex is going to make Jimmy do something for him. Man, you just don't want to be in debt to the Luthors. Not a fun place for him to be in. We'll just have to see where it all goes from here.

I'm happy that Jimmy and Chloe are getting back together, but it doesn't seem like it's going to last. Jimmy was being so incredibly sweet and Chloe just ditched him for Clark! He made breakfast and she just says, "I gotta go." In the time that they were talking before she left, she could have at least had part of it. It was such a nice gesture, and she just blew him off. I'd be frustrated, too. At least when Clark was hurrying off to the fortress, he still stopped for a moment to listen to Jimmy. He's not even romantically involved with Jimmy. (Umm... weird.) I don't think Clark realizes how much Chloe is doing for him and how much she is ditching Jimmy because of it. He acted all guilty and upset that it was kind of his fault that they broke up in the first place, but he doesn't seem to care or notice how much he asks of Chloe. "You can do it, Chloe." I know that's trying to just be supportive of Chloe, but it's like your boss coming in and telling you to do finish a huge project overnight and you give him this look like, "I'd like to get sleep tonight, thanks" and he just looks at you with this look of confidence and says, "You can do it!" Yes, I can do it, but I don't want to. Clark needs to learn to be more observant and Chloe needs to voice what a pain he is to her more often.

Okay, so Kara and Brainiac have somehow gone back in time to before Krypton was destroyed and after Clark was born so Brainiac can kill Clark as a baby... or something? What the heck, Smallville? (Referring to the show/writers, not Clark.) You have this thing with time travel. Whatever. I'd like to see what would happen if they really did kill Clark as a baby. Does that suddenly change everything? Like... if he never existed then, then the meteor showers wouldn't have happened, Martha and Jonathan wouldn't have adopted Clark, Lana and Chloe wouldn't have known who he was. Hmm... that would dramatically change a lot of lives. Would Lex have gone bad sooner? Now I want to see what happens if Clark suddenly never existed. Jonathan would probably still be alive. And Lionel. Well... maybe not. Clark has saved Lionel's life before. Bleh, we'll just see.

I'm thinking that this will push Clark to finally fly. How is he going to stop them in their alternate time dimension if he doesn't fly up there like they did? Eh, maybe something with the fortress and some portal there. I could see them getting around the whole flying thing with that. I hope not. I'd love to see Chloe and Lana's face (after he saves Lana) when he shows them that he can freakin' fly. What can he not do? Not much.

Well, it seems like there might be more I wanted to say about this episode, but I don't think there is. It didn't really answer any questions from last episode. Well, it did answer where exactly Kara and Brainiac went to, that's something. For now I'll just hope for some more answers in next week's episode. Though, this is Smallville so I'll try not to keep my expectations of answers too high.
