7.14 - Traveler
I loved this episode. Like I said way back in Sneeze, I always like the episodes when Clark gets hurt somehow or isn't quite himself. I'm somewhat twisted like that. This episode just happened to be filled with Clark writhing in pain and all bloody. Good times indeed. Lionel, on the other hand, we're not sure what he's up to. I'm completely lost. Though, that ramble time will be later.
I loved seeing Chloe and Lana working together to save Clark. The two girls in Clark's life are trying to save his life. I love it. One of my favorite lines of the episode has to be Lana saying, "If he harms Clark, I will kill him." You hear that kind of stuff from people all the time. I get mad at someone or find out someone has done something I don't like, I'll say, "I'm gonna kill so-and-so!" If so-and-so were in fact their name. But, everyone assumes that I'm not going to actually kill them. But with Lana, we all know and believe her that we will actually kill Lex if she found out he was responsible. Absolutely love it. Now with Chloe, my favorite line of hers from the episode, "Now, please Jor-El, I need you to trust me. I love your son, he's in danger..." Aww!!! Chloe! I mean, it's definitely not breaking news that Chloe loves Clark, but we haven't actually heard her say that since like... season 4? Something like that. Though, this time it just seemed to mean so much more. Not quite like a romantic love (though I'm sure she'd still love that) but more like a best friend love. A bond that'll never be broken and that she and Clark would do anything to keep. Aww... I freakin' love Smallville. *hugs Smallville*
Kara! We finally got to see her normal again! I was really starting to worry. I did NOT want to see her and Lex ever hook up. It was weird enough to just see them gaze into each other's eyes like they really cared about each other... ugh... *shivers* Good thing she decided to trust Lana and Chloe when they just showed up unexpectedly and said, "Trust us! Follow us! Teeheehee!" (Probably paraphrased) It was fun to see her use her abilities again. I had forgotten what it was like to see her all superpowered. I love it! Girl power!! Oh, and they did in fact clear up Clark hiding Kara's bracelet. He was keeping it until she had her memory back. It actually makes perfect sense. Good for Clark.
Okay, now what is Lionel really up to? We've ridden this roller coaster before, and I thought that we were done with it. He's a good guy with bad ways of going about doing what he feels is right. It ends up being with a good intention in the end... right? I guess that mold could still fit with this episode, too. He had the intention of saving Clark by trapping him in a kryptonite cell that he had originally designed back when he first learned about Krypton in case he had to trap some Kryptonians (besides Clark) in it later. It was the only option he could see that could keep Clark contained. He didn't intend for it to torture Clark and put him on the brink of death. That was the doing of his sidekick that was trained by Lex. He wanted to get rid of any kind of freak to save the world. (Umm... yeah.) This could be supported by the fact that Lionel kind of freaked out when he first walked in and saw him torturing Clark. He told him not to or else he'd be held responsible. His interests were in protecting Clark and only causing him enough pain to keep him put. It was worth it to put him in some pain rather than have him possibly killed, in Lionel's eyes anyway. We could believe that, if we wanted to think he was a good guy.
But what if we go with Clark's new opinion that he's not any different. That he's really this evil guy that just wants to hurt Clark and use Clark's powers for himself. What supports that? The fact that he's claiming to be protecting Clark by putting him in a kryptonite cell and having him shot with kryptonite tasers. Its possible that he knew that that guy had a taste for torturing and figured that he would torture Clark. But the question still remains... why? Why would Lionel do that to Clark? For his power? To somehow control him? I don't know, I see more motivation to want to protect Clark than to hurt him. Though, the other question remains. Why did he take Kara's bracelet and not tell anyone about it? (Didn't I discuss this in my last rambling? Probably.) Maybe to hide it from Clark and everyone else so they wouldn't give it to Kara, who would then discuss it with Lex and... bad things would happen. I guess that works as a reason, too. Though, one thing is for sure. He's still good at lying. He just sits there and lies through his teeth so well.
Kind of random, but when Clark first was shown in the cell and we heard a voice, "Stay in the center of your cell." I seriously thought that it was Lex that was talking. I was about to freak out. Then we see that it's just that same guard that we saw at the beginning of the episode. All is well. (Kind of)
So, again, Clark is dumb. He's now back in the mindset that both Luthors are bad news and just never change. They are bad people and will always be bad. Nothing can save them. Umm... Clark? Do you remember back in Fracture when you took a nice long peek into Lex's mind and saw that he had a little Alexander inside of him that was still good? Do you remember telling him that he would always be watching out for him because now he knew that he was there? Umm... yeah, I'm not seeing any of that. You seem to have completely forgotten about it. Lex is a bad person and he always will be, along with Lionel now. He had some pretty good reasons, Clark. Eh, I'm being a little hard on Clark. I'd be mad too if I was trapped in a cage full of pain for an extended period of time. I wouldn't suddenly be against him, though. He has done a lot for you, and Jor-El is somewhere inside of him... or something with Jor-El is connected with Lionel. It still seems like a good idea to be on good terms with him and assume that he's still a pretty good guy.
I'm sad about Patricia being killed. I was really starting to like her. I was just thinking about how I was going to like having her on the show to encourage Clark and tell him how awesome he is on occasion. Then... BAM! She's shot and killed. Lex now has her necklace and research about Veritas. Veritas... that was the same project that Lionel was being asked about it Lex's memory back in Fracture. I don't think that really has any significance except that he didn't want to talk about Veritas back when he was really involved with it. Though, it's still interesting to note either way. Apparently the next episode is titled "Veritas." It sure seems like we'll learn even more about it now. Oh, and now we know about the crest that Lex was looking into. It's the symbol for Veritas. The stars being lined up the same way as they were at the time of the first meteor shower was the time that the "Traveler" came down to Earth. It makes a lot of sense that that would be their... icon or whatever.
Though, maybe this is Lex's first big step to figuring out Clark's secret. There's a group of people that talk about a person from another planet coming down to Earth... their symbol is the stars as they were when the first meteor shower hit. It sure makes sense that that's when the alien decided to come on down to Earth. Hmmm... Clark popped up on the day of the first meteor shower. He's odd. He's always hid stuff from me. He always is connected to all the extra-terrestrial stuff that goes on around here... HE'S THE TRAVELER! Yeah... maybe not, but you never know. Lex is a smart cookie.
Okay, that's all that I really feel like typing about this episode. I'm excited for the next episode. Here we go!
