Smallville Ramblings

6.14 - Trespass

Another fantastic episode of Smallville. This awesome streak just won't end! Something that I especially appreciated about Trespass was that the writers finally continued the Clark-Lana storyline I wanted to continue from last episode! Normally it takes at least one episode in between where they don't say anything about the previous cliffhanger. Yay! In fact, they started it off exactly where they left off in Crimson with Lana looking at the chisel. (I figured out what it was) I was kind of slow at first when Lana was freaking out to Lex about someone being in her room. "Lana! Just show Lex the picture they guy sent you!" Silly Jephthah. Of course Lana wouldn't do that! Then Lex would know that she took that chisel which would spark his interest about Clark. Chloe claimed that Lana did that to protect Clark's secret, which I guess she was, but I definitely think that there were some personal reasons as well.

I thought it was funny that Lex just ran off on a business trip right when Lana was in danger. Sure she let him believe it was her own imagination, but the timing was perfect. "Oh, Lana! You're in trouble? I'll just go out of town on business." Something else that I noticed (and I'm sure I wasn't the only one), it sounded like Lana had a cold in all of the scenes in the Talon, but they never seemed to comment on it at all. I guess it wasn't Lana who had a cold. It was Kristin Kreuk. :D Just thought I'd point that out because I can.

You know, it wasn't exactly a surprise ending to have one of Lex's security guards turn around and be the bad guy. Somehow the Luthor security is always failing. They can never stop anybody from just barging on in, and I think this is the 3rd or 4th episode where one of them has turned out to be bad. I was pretty sure from the beginning that it was one of them since they knew all of Lana's whereabouts and there was no way of anyone else coming in. It was funny, though, when Lana got that package with lingerie and a note, "I want you to wear this... WHEN I KILL YOU." It shouldn't be funny at all, but I think it's absolutely hilarious. I mean, I would be utterly terrified if I got something like that, but in a TV show it's downright funny. Though, I definitely wouldn't walk down alone into the darkness when I hear a strange noise like Lana did. Especially when she's already had experiences of someone watching her creepily. But whatever. I guess she's just "tougher" than I am. (Or stupider, whatever)

So any concept of Chlark in this episode was completely shot down. Clark actually went out of his way to let Jimmy know that he loved Chloe as nothing more than a friend. Though, it was really sweet to hear him claim that he would live the rest of his life in a bodycast for her. I bet he really does have feelings for her... deep... deep... deep down. Just think back to Zod when he seemed to hint at a relationship with her! He seemed disappointed to see her not expect for them to hook up, and he had a hint of jealousy when he saw Jimmy with Chloe. Oh well. I'll get over it. Especially when things between Clark and Lana seem to be happening now. (And possibly Lois, though they didn't touch on that at all in this episode.)

Lana is stalking Clark! Well, not exactly stalking him, but she didn't only take the chisel from the barn, she went through and took pictures! (I still don't know how she was able to do all of that without Lex knowing) I'm not sure what she would take pictures of that would help her in cracking the mystery of Clark Kent, but she obviously thinks so. Oh, man! I absolutely loved the scene when Clark caught her from falling to her death! I actually got the sense that they were about to kiss! In the previews (which I saw afterwards on youtube), they made that scene look so creepy, but it was so sweet when I first saw it. Lana didn't seem annoyed at all. Well, maybe a little bit when Clark told her that her safety was all that mattered as opposed to how he saved her. But when she said, "You're here after... everything. Why are you still watching over me?" I got the impression from Lana that she was touched by Clark's care for her. I think it was about then that Clark's eyes glanced down to Lana's lips and I felt like they were about to kiss. I was surprised by Clark's response though. "Maybe for the same reason you've been watching me." It's peculiar how he delivered that line. I'm not sure what to take from it. Is he implying that he is watching over her because he loves her, so she is watching Clark because she loves him? That doesn't quite make sense. She seems to be stalking Clark just to find out his secret that she's been wanting to know since the beginning of season 2. Clark isn't watching over Lana to find out her secret. Maybe I missed something. Either way it was a clever way for Clark to let Lana know that he knows that she's watching him. You know, I always wonder how these awkward scenes end. They end with a line like that, and then suddenly they change scenes. Where did they go from there? Did Lana just not say anything at all and then Clark put her down and walked away? What happened? I always figure that the writers don't want too think to hard. It doesn't really matter. Though, Lana's last look at Clark was interesting. What was she thinking? It looked like she was scared and yet curious all at the same time.

At the end when it showed Lex just sitting there watching Lana sleep... uh... creepy! Lana woke up and smiled at Lex. I'm not sure I would wake and smile at somebody staring at me, no matter who it was. I do find it interesting that he said that he was so lucky. That statement alone tells that he still sees Lana as a competition with Clark. Sure, I believe that he really does love Lana a lot, but he still relishes the fact that he won her over Clark. Like that very last scene where Lex gave Clark the invitation to the wedding to basically rub it in Clark's face that he had won... burn. I thought that Clark's reactions were perfect. He looked on the verge of tears when he got the invitation. I'm not sure if those were happiness or sadness... probably both. I loved it when Lex was "walking down memory lane." Clark seemed to go all defensive at first, but then he backed down and did what he should have done: apologized. Lex was awesome! Even though he's so evil, he's hilarious. "You know I'm still a bit fuzzy on the details, what with you trying to choke the life out of me..." That was absolutely brilliant! Though, something else on that scene, Lex burned Clark yet again by claiming that he didn't think that Clark mattered anymore and wasn't worried about finding out more about Clark. That is such a blatant lie. Sure, he's not focusing solely on Clark like he was before, but back in Justice, he mentioned to Lionel that one of the security gaurds mentioned that one of the people there looked like Clark Kent. Lex was obviously still interested in finding out about Clark. I know that if he knew about the chisel that Lana grabbed, he would take it and analyze it have a remake of the incident to prove that a normal human being wouldn't have caused the chisel to bend like that. But, whatever. We all knew that.

Speaking of the chisel... who took it? Did Lex find it and take it? Did that one freaky stalker security dude take it from Lana? I saw at the beginning right before the opening credits rolled, it showed her drawer still open with the bright red silk hankercheif thing still poking out. We never saw it since then. I'm sure it'll turn up next episode. (EDIT: Dilemma solved. Clark took it and straightened it out. Check out the director's cut.) We'll just have to wait and see! Lana is so close to finding out Clark's secret. I don't know what'll happen when she does. What will Clark do? That's basically the only reason why he broke up with her, was to keep her from knowing his secret to protect her, right? Something like that? I know that somehow Lana has got to break it off with Lex so that he can truly be pushed over the edge into the supervillain of Lex Luthor. Oh, how exciting that'll be.

This rambling wasn't nearly as long as Crimson, but I'll deal with it. I just hope that next week will continue this awesome episode streak. Keep it up Smallville!
