Smallville Ramblings

9.12 - Warrior

Zatanna again! It was fun to see a little boy see what it was like to be a superhero. Also, it was fun to see Clark apologize to Lois at the end for somehow kissing Zatanna. Though, I didn't think that Zatanna knew Clark's secret. I guess by using her magic she could figure out all sorts of things? I even went back and watched a good portion of Hex and I couldn't find anything definitive that shows that she knew Clark's identity. Oh well. It made it more fun that way. Let's go!

It was pretty stupid of that employee to leave the keys in the case for that comic book. A book with that kind of value and he just left the case open? I know there was something that happened that got his attention, but if he really valued that comic book he would have taken the time to lock it back up. Why did he feel the need to clean it right when the kid who obviously really wanted it was right by it? Oh well. We know it had to happen in order to propel the entire episode's plot, so I guess I'll get over it. It was fun to see him so excited about his ripped body and various abilities. My favorite part was when he realized he could fly. I would be freaking out the exact same way! "Holy crap! I can fly!!" I'm pretty sure those would be my exact words. It must have felt so nice for him to stand up to those kids who were bullying the other kid. It was like a dream come true for him! Speaking of dream come trues, he got to meet the Blur! That must have been awesome for him. He personally gave Clark a drawing he made of him, which happened to look exactly like the traditional Superman getup, with the exception of "RBB" instead of "S". Cute! I really laughed out loud when Clark walked up his barn steps to see little Alec. It was like every Clana scene known to man, except with this little kid instead! The exact same lightning, music playing softly in the background, Clark talking all philosophically and such... I just had to laugh. I didn't realize how long it'd been since a scene like that had happened.

Now, what worries me is how willing Chloe seemed to be to let this mystery man into her apartment. It's like when she agreed to let him come up to her apartment, she accepted the fact that it might mean he'd want to spend the night or make out on the couch or something. Was she really willing to do that with a guy she had just met that day? With superpowers? I don't know. It is Chloe, and I trust her and most of her choices. Though, I'm happy it was just a 12-year-old kid that wanted to play XBox. If anything good came from Chloe meeting him it was her realizing that she needed to have more fun with her life. That must have been really depressing when he asked the last time she had fun and she couldn't answer. Not even your wedding Chloe? Well, before Doomsday came in and put your new husband in the emergency room. What about bowling with your best friend Lana before she got married? That was probably fun. Except that her best friend was marrying a to-be supervillain and ruining her other best friend's life... okay. Maybe she honestly can't think of the last time she had a good time. :( At least she seemed to have a little fun playing the XBox game with Stephen. Then at the end with Oliver...

I got really nervous at the very end. For the first time I felt real tension between Oliver and Chloe. I mean, it still seems too soon after Jimmy's death. Chloe must still be feeling the pain from that. I suppose she's known Oliver for a while and he's one of the only people that knows everything that she's going through. It kind of makes sense. I'm just still not willing to completely let go of Jimmy. Realistically, he's probably never coming back. I'm thinking we'll at least get an episode where they go back in time for some reason (it happens fairly often!) and she'll see Jimmy and all those feelings with come back again. Maybe not. Anyway, I suppose it's not too bad of a relationship to see Chloe and Oliver hook up. Then they could have each other and stop being jealous of Clark and Lois. Clark and Lois are going to end up together, there's no doubting that. (YAY!) Chloe is probably still jealous of Lois, to a degree, and Oliver is obviously still pining after Lois. It makes sense that Chloe and Oliver could use each other to lean on. So, I guess I'll go with it. We'll see how they decide to develop this relationship.

I got so nervous when Zatanna put the spell on Clark to make him kiss her with millions of candles all around. I just got flashbacks from Hypnotic when Lana walked in on Clark and Simone making out. She was so hurt, and then Clark decided it would be best for them to just split up. (Stupid Clark. Though, I'm over it.) I could just see Lois walking in with this look of terrible grief, shock, and hurt... but it seems as though something deep in Clark saw the same thing. So he somehow stopped it. YAY! I couldn't have been more happy! "I can't do this." YAY! But, he obviously still felt guilty about it, and told Lois at the end. At first I was wondering why he didn't just tell the truth to Lois in that the kiss was really because of a spell, but it makes sense why he wouldn't want to tell that much to Lois. If it was a spell, how would he have somehow broken the spell? The way he explained it wasn't necessarily a lie, and did say was really happened: they kissed and he didn't want it to happen. Though, Lois' reaction was not what I expected. Right after she said, "Expect the unexpected" she decides to grab this random guy walking by and kiss him right in front of Clark! Whoa! Then you can see Clark in the background all uncomfortable and confused. "That look on your face? Remember how that feels the next time one of your sexy lady friends invades your personal space." Nice job, Lois! I think that really taught him something! He should have backed off from Zatanna much sooner so that she wouldn't have cast that spell in the first place. Now, his finished apology was great. He got tickets to this Costume Ball! Then Lois' first response is, "You hate costumes." "Yes." I loved that "yes" from Clark. It was full of loathing. "Yes... I do hate them a lot. But I love you more." You just have to read between the lines. Then Lois got all happy and determined she would get to pick out his costume. I really hope that we get to see this costume that she picked out. I could see them having Lois pick out something Red and Blue that looks something like the Superman costume just because it'd be so fun. Come on, Smallville! Let's see this costume next episode!

Speaking of costumes, I loved the beginning when Lois called Clark to pick up something from her apartment and we got to see all sorts of old costumes from previous episodes. The red jump suit from Combat and the All-American bikini from Exposed in season 5 (one of the best Clois moments from season 5). That must have brought back some good memories for Clark. The look on his face when he saw Lois' new costume at the Comic Con was awesome! Not only that, but all the other guys in line were all gawking at her as well. Clark must have been thinking, "I'm SO lucky that she's MINE!" Then she was a little mad at him for seeing Zatanna and she over reacts slightly and goes off with another guy. And Clark's all confused. Great stuff. It's fun to see them bantering when they are actually in a relationship with each other.

I can completely sympathize with Clark not liking seeing all the people at Comic Con dressed up. They all want to be superheroes, but he knows what it's really like. It's not just awesome to have powers, but it's such a great responsibility and people are constantly judging you and your choices. Not that I know that from experience in the superhero world, but it's like the students who get mad at a teacher for something they said or did in class, or how they treated them as a student, or whatever. From their point of view it's so easy to be a teacher and it's so obvious that what the teacher did was an injustice to them. (At least younger students usually have no idea.) Teaching is so much harder than people can imagine. Especially in a public school setting. Anyway, that's how I related to Clark. From the outside, so many things seem better and easier than they really are. But, Clark was willing to dress up because he cares more about Lois than he does about all of that stuff. WOOHOO!

Speaking of the "L" word, Clark and Lois still haven't actually said it to each other. I'm waiting for the episode when they actually say, "I love you." Clark seemed a little taken aback when Zatanna said, "Must be love." It was like it hadn't struck Clark to think that he loved Lois, or something. Which, I find hard to believe. Even in the future neither of them actually said it out loud. They had sex, which is certainly a way of expressing your love without words (perhaps the most powerful way), but we still never heard it out loud. Interesting. Maybe that'll be in the season finale. Or maybe sooner! Things are moving faster in this relationship than I anticipated. It's fantastic!

I really like the rate this Clois stuff is going. The rest of the season is so promising! Here we go to the next episode!
