Smallville Ramblings

7.07 - Wrath

What a fantastic episode, even if it made me depressed about life in general. Clark finally sees Lana's true dark side and is starting to accept it, Lana may still have feelings for Lex (how??), Martha is mentioned, Lex mingles, Chloe rocks, and no Jimmy or Kara. (odd) Let's begin.

First of all, where the heck were Jimmy and Kara? We just see them starting to hook up, and now they're totally gone. Isn't Kara living at the Kent farm? How did she miss all of the excitement? I guess her character wasn't convenient for the episode (and apparently neither was Jimmy's), so off she goes. Sad. At least we got a mention of Martha! Though, it's interesting that we keep seeing Lionel talking to Martha and not Clark. I mean, Clark can even go see her in person in the blink of an eye, but no. He's too "busy" with Lana. Psh, what a lousy son.

How on earth was Clark able to transfer his powers and still keep them? I guess since they both weren't touching the kryptonite and Lana was starting to throw it, it made it different than all of the other times Clark has managed to lose his powers. Anyhow, it was very interesting to see Lana get a little insane with Clark's powers. And not asylum insane, like terminator death machine insane. You didn't know what she would do next! Like when she was just standing in the rode in front of Lex's car, and she walked up all machine-like and smashed through his window... that was creepy, and hilarious. Though, when it first showed Lex driving down the rode in his car, I was almost expecting to see Lana on the bridge and for Lex to look up and swurve and hit her like he hit Clark in the Pilot. But, alas, no. He wasn't even near the bridge. Silly Jephthah.

I'm glad that Clark finally saw who Lana really is, and all of the lies that she's been keeping from him. Though, I really feel like there's more to this whole Isis foundation than we know. Lana is using it to track and watch Lex's every move to "show the world who he really is." She could have done that without making a clinic like that. Is it just supposed to be a cover for what she's really up to? I'm not sure, but at least Clark knows about it. I don't think there's anything else that Lana is hiding from him. Well, unless there really is more to what she's doing at Isis that nobody knows about except her. I'm glad that she didn't deny anything that she did, like Lex did to her. Though, it kind of loses her credibility of being a true evil villain because when Lex threatens people, he follows through with it. Lana threatened Lionel about telling Clark about the whole kidnapping and torturing thing, and she asked Chloe (though, politely) to not tell Clark about Isis. Both of them ratted out Lana and told Clark what he deserves to know and didn't get any retribution for it. Granted, it's hard to do retribution to someone as powerful as Lionel. Though, if anyone could do it, Lana can. (And apparently that guy from Mercy, but... that doesn't exist.)

One of the most interesting lines in the episode was when Lex asked Clark which he thought was greater: Lana's hatred for Lex or her affection for Clark. That is a really good question. It sure seemed to be her hatred for Lex. When Lex brought up the point that Clark would never look at Lana the same if she killed Lex, she hesistated, but she still threw him across the room and remained very adamant about killing him. She didn't care what anyone else thought. Her number one goal was to kill Lex in order to "save other people." Clark has stuck to that ideal that it's "not our decision" to kill other people. He is very very right. Though, Lana is also very very right that if Clark had killed Lex a while back that a lot of people's lives would be saved. Though, if he had killed Lex back then just assuming that he was going to continue to do bad, then that is not only taking away Lex's choice to get better, it's making a judgement that you can't determine for certain. All for the price of a life. I don't think it's worth it. Though, after reading "In Cold Blood" by Capote, it really makes me think that the death sentence is appropriate sometimes. I still don't like killing people. Silly Lana... trying to kill people.

Okay, I can't ignore it. Clark and Lana had sex for the first time since the beginning of season 5. That must have pleased Lana (well, and I'm sure it pleased Clark too... nevermind) since she's wanted sex with Clark for a long time and hasn't known why Clark was being reluctant. Of course that would be the first item on her list of things to do when they were "on level playing fields." I did think it was funny that Clark was so reluctant to try it at first, and then Lana kissed him and he let his male hormones and instincts take him over. Suddenly, it seemed like the perfect idea. Though, afterwards Lana didn't seem compelled at all to put on any freakin' pants. I mean, she was in the kitchen just preparing lunch or whatnot, and then Chloe walks in and it's no big deal. Though, what's probably funnier is the fact that Chloe didn't notice until she was trying to figure out how they would make those earthquakes. Suddenly, she realizes that Lana is only wearing Clark's shirt. How much more obvious could it be what they were doing? "Awkward." Yeah, I'd have to say that'd be pretty awkward.

What else? What else? Oh, right. There was another storyline with Lois. Her and the editor? Seriously? That is so dumb. He is so not her type, he's her boss, and he's in with the Luthors. (apparently) Lois, you have this bad habit of getting in relationships with bad guys. You even realize it! (Remember Fade from season 5?) Silly Willy, don't get in a relationship with your boss. Let's just get Perry White back and have him be the editor so we can finally settle in on something and be like the Superman movies. Yes, that's a good idea. And there's no way that Lois would ever get involed with White. He's... old... and... Perry White-ish. Yes, anyhow. I'm not sure how developed this relationship is going to get. It sure doesn't seem anything like her relationship with Oliver. At least I liked that relationship. This other guy just seems so... boss-like. Not for Lois. Definitely not. You already established that, Jephthah. Yeah well... it's true. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see where they decide to take this.

Okay, back to Lana. (Since it was basically a Lana-tastic episode.) She kicked Clark's trash! It was an admirable dodge initially on Clark's part, but that backwards kick that Lana gave him was flippin' sweet. I don't care care how uncharacteristic it was of her, it was awesome. Kudos to you, Lana. Though, did she ever know that kryptonite was Clark's weakness before this episode? It seems like it, since she figured out to throw it away from Clark. Though... why did he suddenly feel the effects of kryptonite after walking by it rather than by the fence? He was just as far away from it when he was by the fence as he was when he was leaning against the windmill. Oh well.

What else? Oh yes. The mysterious black stuff that decided to inhabit the lady scientist. It obviously seems to be Milton Fine again, but... why would it not like kryptonite? That doesn't really make any sense. In any case, that stuff reminded me a lot of the venom from Spiderman 3. Perhaps that's what it is... yeah... no. I guess we'll find out in the next couple of episodes. Perhaps it'll put some sense into Lana, or break her into becoming the evilness that she obviously wants to become. How does that make any sense? I'm not sure. Maybe I should just make another paragraph.

Ahh, here we are. So, let's analyze this final scene to pieces. It'll be fun! :) So, Lana's expression initially before she turns around and sees Clark is there... what is she thinking about? Come on, let's use our mind reading powers. It's either about how she's realizing who she's becoming, how she still has feelings for Lex, how Clark will take her new persona and all of her secrets, or all of the above. Ugh... still having feelings for Lex. Why? How? Though, the good thing is that Lex came in to kiss Lana. Though, she didn't exactly push him away immediately like she did in Reckoning back in season 5. In fact, they kissed for a while and she seemed to be getting into it. She even dropped her electrical wire thing. Though, she did follow it with strangling him. Yes... yes. I don't know. What is she thinking? She couldn't possibily want to leave babelicious Clark for evilicious Lex? That's blasphemous! Well, I suppose if she is becoming evilicious as well, it might be what she wants. No! Lana! You were so innocent and good once. Remember back in season one when you talked in a much higher voice? Yeah, that Lana is gone. Sad day.

What's even sadder is Clark. I can definitely relate to how he is feeling. I wonder what hurts more: Lana being with Lex and him thinking that he'll never be with her again, or now that he's with her and realizes that the Lana that he fell in love with is gone. "I wish you wouldn't look at me like you hadn't seen me before." "I guess I'm just trying to find a part of you I recognize." That is so depressing! It was interesting to see the stages that Clark went through to arrive at the stage of accepting that Lana really had changed. Of course there was the classic denial with Lionel. "Lana isn't capable of doing something like that." (probably paraphrased) Oh yes, Clark. She is. Then he admits to Chloe that he has noticed something different about Lana ever since she came back. Then he finally confronts her and realizes that the Lana he knew at one time has completely changed and that he'll probably never get her back. Though, what was interesting is the fact that everyone was telling Clark that it was him that made Lana the way she is now. Because he lied to her and "betrayed" her (according to Lex), she feels the need to do the same thing to him. That is not true. At least Lana realizes this and doesn't just let Clark take the blame. She realizes that it's all her fault that she's gotten herself where she is. Well, it might be arguable that Clark contributed somewhat, but ultimately it's Lana's choice. The fact that she told him that she has to live with her choices indicates to me that she really does regret where she is and wants to change. Eh, that might be a stretch. I don't know. Just, when Clark started to take the blame, immediately she snatched it away from him. Oh, and at the beginning of the scene when she referred to her previous actions in the episode as the "mess she made" that certainly demonstrates that she regrets and realizes how wrong she was in what she was doing. Perhaps she was starting to realize that her hatred and need for revenge against the Luthors was going too far. Perhaps. I hope so. Though, Clark not answering her when she told him that she needs to know that he loves her certainly won't help. Though, Lana really does seem insecure about that. "Do you love me Clark? Because I love you. I love you so much, Clark. Did you catch that I love you? I would kill for you, Clark. I was protecting you Clark because I love you. I was protecting that man that I love." We get the idea, Lana. Honestly. I think that the only times that Clark has told Lana that he loved her was 1) at the end of season 2 right after she told him she loved him, 2) end of season 4 right after Lana told him that she loved him, 3) in Cyborg after she wanted to know if Clark still loved her, and 4) in Promise when he told her he loved her in a desperate attempt to get her away from Lex. I probably missed a couple times, but those are the times that stick out to me. I can't count how many times Lana has told Clark that she loved him. Usually right before she says something that is hard for Clark to hear. "Clark, you know I love you, but..." Anyhow. I got a little side tracked.

Oh, Chloe! I forgot to mention how flippin' awesome she is, and that the whole Chlark relationship seems plausible! First of all, Jimmy is out of the way and off with another Kryptonian, second of all Lana is all changing and Clark is depressed about it, and third of all Chloe's discussion with Lana! "I'm not going to let that happen." ("that" referring to Lana "bringing Clark to his knees") How Chloe? How?? Are you going to hook with Clark and give him that happiness that he deserves? Do it! Oh man, that would be so cool. It'd be a little weird to finally see them as a couple after all these years of friendship, but flippin' awesome all the same. Oh man... I can't wait to see where that goes. :)

Ummm... I can't decide what else to add to this rambling, and it's 1:53 AM. I should get some sleep, and you should probably go and look at some cooler parts of my website. So, off to the next episode!
